To curve the hook, you could probably make it change size during the throw, to make it look like it's flying closer/further to the camera also happy new year!
Yesss i was thinking of that! Maybe i can adjust the speed or pace of the hook so that the size would make sense, hmmmmm thanks for suggesting and pointing it out!

literally paused when you explained you were using enums that way to note it for myself so that I'm not in boolean hell for my next project lmao. Also, blud casually pulled two full-arts, no way
Yeah! Enums saved my asss no joke haha its a great tool to have if you know for sure something should only be in one state! And yeah dude, the luck hahaha

Using enums is basically the idea of state machines, and I agree that it’s so much less buggy Love the game juice you put in with the particles and flashing 👏

Was not excpecting this twist for the game, but I am allll for it, I think you can make it super cool :D I guess it'd be cool if the enemies you're fighting are other creepy but cute animals too maybe, like ghoulish dogs, etc! Also more pack openings, feed the addiction, ours of watching, and yours of...well you know
I think its important that you really nail down what genre you want to work on, like is this going to be a roguelike or just a twinstick shooter or something else entirely?
Yeah great point tbh, i think im more lenient towards twin stick shooter of some sort and thats is just becsuse i would have less content i need to make. Roguelikes usually needs a bunch of power ups and power modifications that needs to be programmed with modularity in mind + procedural map generation which ive also got no idea how to make haha :D and if i want to make a small game and finish it in 3 months ish. I think ill need to make mine as simple as possible but also achieve the best quality of gameplay experience as i can given the time that I have haha but thanks so much for pointing this out and for watching! Vision and scope keeping is so important, I will keep this in mind❤

Maybe you could hook a particular position and as you move around that position, it forms a net that captures whatever’s inside. It could be a mechanism to collect stuff.

I finished Naruto and was about to start watching Shippuden. Looks like I'm in for some crazy stuff happening in that one Also, the pokemon pack opening at the end is fire. He could have just spread the packs over the next 4 devlogs to open a pack at the end of every devlog, but he felt obliged to open them all immediately. That's how you know he's a true gambler. Also also, the game turning into a roguelike is not what I was expecting, but it sounds pretty sick, I like the idea for the progression. (Unless there's no perma-death and it's just the way of progression, then it's not a roguelike at all lol, I just assumed I guess)
Also also also, you are totally right with the gambler. I totally absolutely for sure 100% did it because I wanted to be nice and show all the packs for you to enjoy, not because I am addicted and have no self control. Yes yes. Also also also also, it is turning into a top down shooter cuz i guess thats just the easiest for me to make since I know that and platformers best so far...im not 100% in with the rogue like stuff yet unless i can find or figure something nifty out. For now I see it more like a lobby with rooms you can enter which are levels and basically there are 3 rooms you have to enter and beat. Once you beat all 3, you beat the final room and boom the end of the game haha. Im really scared about feature creep and whats next to come lmao. Also also also also also, thanks for watching :> :*
The Harpoon can grabs like rocks or some background props and can hurl it at enemies

I love the idea of being able to grab a small enemy, and swing them around with your mouse like a wrecking ball. Or the idea of hooking onto an anchor (stationary object) and boost swinging your boat around in a circle around the anchor.

The hook could attach you to an enemy. If the enemies are much faster, this would be a way for the player to keep up with them. This is more of a fishing idea. Basically you hook onto an enemy, and they pull you along at high speeds. The player has to take down the fish using projectiles before they are dragged underwater.

Love the video man, and super game idea! But I was kinda sad to see you change the way the boat movement works, I thought the original way it moved would've created such a cool and unique movement and gameplay loop, encouraging players to kinda hook on to enemies and use them as a sort of pivot to better move around? I understand why you changed it though :)

maybe the goal would be to catch REALLY big fish, starting with sharks and small whales then working to get upgrades to the point you're catching sea monsters the size of islands, then the rope and hook doubles as a challenge to hook the thing, then to drag it to shore without getting flung into obstacles by your catch. Maybe each fish would have some sort of special move, maybe sharks could bite your boat if you touch it dealing one damage, but a kraken would raise tentacles into the air then slam down to the water so you have to bob and weave through the shadows to not get dragged under. then some obvious upgrade paths like hull strength, engine power, maybe rope length, then some more dynamic stuff like adding an electric charge to your hook that stuns your catch initially for a few seconds so you can start your momentum, or a dash ability that makes your boat go really fast for a few seconds but it cant turn for the duration.

Instead of throwing hooks, you could throw a net that covers a large radius and drag it around to catch fish. I hope this helps!
