That thing got more gadgets on it than a Fuller brush mans sample case that’s ought to hold up great in 115 degree ambient pulling 20 thousand pounds up a 25 degree grade ! What could go wrong ?

I have a 24 Colorado zr2.the active fuel management never comes on at highway speed.it will come on at 60- 70 kmph but only for about 10 secs.seems useless to me

Would like to see how much carbon is on the valves of these engines after high mileage or hear an explanation on what GM did to mitigate it.

Why didn’t you mention that this engine is also found in many Lincoln vehicles.

You didn’t even mention the poor block design that allows coolant intrusions.Ford replaced thousands of engines under warranty because of this. The problem was corrected by 2020. I hope so because Thatis what mine is.

Good video with useful info! I own a 2.4 tigershark and can confirm that 5w-30 oil helps a lot with reducing oil consumption. Funny enough the Fiat Toro with the 2.4 specs using 5w-30 oil and those owners do not report many if any oil consumption issues. It appears 0w-20 oil is far too thin for the engine design tolerances and is only recommended in the USA due to EPA and Cafe standards with no regard to what the engine is spec'd to run in other countries or what is best for the consumer in regards to oil consumption. Had it been sold in the USA being recommended to run 5w-30 we probably would not hear of many oil consumption issues either.

the new ones have an aluminum oil pan, updated high output version relies on up to 27 psi of boost. AFM system is not an issue in these DOHC motors, GM is only finding issues with that on the 5.3 and 6.2.

Been a professional mechanic 1987, seen a lot of small displacement, turbo charged GM product’s hit the market over those years, none of them held their value, nor were they reliable past the warranty date/mileage. I expect this to be no different. Laughable thing to me, is this turbo’ed 2.7L, gets worse mileage than the 4.8L, or the 4.3L. What a joke!!!

A 4 cylinder engine gets worse mpg then the old 3.6L WTF? Looks like GM is going backwards.

love mine with the turbomax 2.7l crew cab 4x4 only issue is at 20 mph or below touch gas peddle to hard and lights the back tires up old 5.3 i had would not spin the tires on ice

These much-maligned little engines are actually extremely fun to drive and quite powerful. Maintenance is key, however.

I just bought the same gmc reg cab short bed like the one shown and love it! And with the recent 10 speed tranny issue the turbo max with the updated 8 speed is looking like the most dependable option from gm.

It makes 430ftlbs of torque now. I think they only gave the original figure. Plus they use an internal baffle, similar to an oil catch can for the pcv to help with carbon. Does it work? I don’t know but I haven’t seen any issues yet.

Err, so you’ve completely glossed over the failure of the wet belts on these engines?

IT'S JUNK! NOT a good ENGINE!!!

The biggest problem with the 2.0 before the fix on the 2020 and newer engines was the head gasket failing causing coolant to fill inside the cylinder causing catastrophic damage. The open block design gives little space for adhesion of the head gasket due to a slit for coolant to pass through, the new design uses a drilled through port allowing the head gasket to have more room to seal. Most of these engines are relatively reliable just a matter of time before the head gasket seal breaks and allows coolant to fill into one of the cylinders.

5:20 regarding fuel consumption... Im getting 8ltrs per 100km on 70 km round trips to work n back using 95 octane. Liqui Moly oil additive increases economy to below 7ltrs per 100km.

Spark plugs at 30k?! Must have been on older models. Atlas Vr6 maintenance says spark plugs are a 80k change item.

Nice video. I will add. The 6g72TT has different lifters compared to the other engines. They are very prone to clogging, very easy to upgrade and replace to bigger lifters! If you are planning on buying one such vehicle with the TT and hear little taps from the valve cover dont be alarmed too badly! Though do take into consideration for the noises and wear!
