Safari Snorkel Installation - MR Triton
Mud is any 4x4’s worst enemy. Don’t go trying to get stuck mate .
Do all Triton owners wear those shit boots ? Did Mitsubishi give them to you as a pro-mo ? Did you expect to catch some sheep out in the bush ? Perhaps it’s just a SA thing 😂
If you were planning on disposing of the vehicle before around 100,000 km, there's probably no need for a catch can. The effects of not having one will ultimately be an issue for the subsequent owner.
My 2010 GU Patrol cab chassis came with an approx 80l steel subtank, incorporated into the front right undertray toolbox with a stainless water tank. its mounted fairly high, never going to hit it. I've got 165-180l basically 'stock'. I can replace the main tank at the back with a 175l Brown Davis tank, probably will at some point, and I've still got heaps of room under the tray in the centre if I ever want to fab something up.. Cab chassis setups give you a heap more room underneath. Eat Tritons for breakfast.
Yeah. Understand also they went softer on MR suspension for comfort. The MQ and MN carried it way better.
Mate. Get O-Cam bash plates. They are cheap, thick, and heavy. Absolutely saved my ass on my last trip.
Triton is no a soft roader....No 4x4 work utes so to speak are soft roaders. Soft roaders are Subaru XV , Forrester. Nissan X-Trail and so on. 4x4 work utes are proper 4x4s.
Also going wider don’t mean shit taller is better for deflation
In the owners manual it gives you 4 or so types of wheels and tire options that won’t affect the utes ability to move 👍🏼 I personally want to go to a taller tire also you can just type in the original tire vs the update you want and it will calculate the percentage in the speedo 👍🏼
i dont have time to see i have montero 2023 should i put it or not
Maybe
Aren't mc4 connectors only rated for 30ah?
I guess life has taken over now :( Understandable.. wish you well.
binged all of your videos, amazing insight on the Triton, hope to get some more video soon! 🤞🤞
Hey mate what’s you’re thought on the rear diff damper you’re I remove it or keep it ?
I have the manual transmission so mine didn't come with one luckily. Personally, I understand it serves a purpose but I dislike the whole idea of it from an offroading perspective. Not sure what the implications would be if you were to remove it though
how's the Triton holding up these days? hope all is well with ya!
Hi mate, What brand tyres did you use? and what size exactly? couldn't see the size in your video. Awesome video BTW
what is the battery isolator mounted to or is just loose?
Does this help even after a remap tune my mr auto is amazing after tune but still a delay on take-off from stop
I’ve got 275/75/16 on my mq triton and no loss of power what do ever as I have a throttle controller and if you get one of them I would bet you you would not worry about the size of the tyres
Definitely lots to consider when upgrading tyres, good video mate. When you change tyre size, it also affects the fuel consumption reading from the car’s computer, because no one programmed the computer to know that the tyre dimensions changed. This should be factored in when comparing fuel efficiency like you mentioned in this video. I’m not sure you can trust the results if someone has upgraded tyres, and the other hasn’t… I noticed the different setups of rooftop tent in the video. The one on the roof racks is the pick by far. It’s not really acting like a parachute, the spoiler effect counteracts this. But the load is centred between the axles. This is optimum. Yes the tent load is higher than the other option, but at least it’s between the axles. The problem with having the tent on top of the tub, is that you’re putting load behind the axle. This problem is accentuated because MR Tritons dimensions have an awkwardly positioned rear axle to start with, which is the main reason Tritons can only tow 3.1T, whereas most others can do 3.5T. The instability that load behind the rear axle causes, is probably more dangerous than the alternative. If you want to look into this further, google the engineering terms “pitch and yaw”, and maybe start following the John Cadogan page. I’m only saying this because I want people to be safe, including your family and your followers
Its not hidden power, its purely an adjustment for throttle response. As in advancing throttle position.
It's a catchy video title though 😜
Not to mention your new car warranty is finished if you lift your new car
Get silicone intercooler hoses too. My mq18 at 30k had softened hoses ( though not perished) even with a catch can installed at 15k. The catch can worked though as the linings are dry. Just about to do the 60k service.
This is a great vid, thanks mate. I did the same thing with my MQ. The taller tyres also corrected my speedo accuracy, and I also used a throttle controller to make up for the lost power. I’m happy with the overall outcome. And the throttle controller has paid itself off many times over now. When towing heavy loads up hills etc, is where you get the fuel savings. The only downside of the throttle controller is they void engine warranty, maybe other warranties too.
Mate, I like your work and your passion for the car that nothing can frighten. I will hit the subscribe button. Just some honest feedback here, if I had $2k to spend to make my MR more off-road capable. I have upgraded my tyres to achieve maximum sidewall height. My tyres are approximately 20mm bigger in diameter, compared to the stock tyres, so about 10mm higher off the ground overall. Any gain in clearance, even 10mm, reduces the impact on underbody wear and tear. The extra clearance from higher sidewall tyres also help reduce getting hung up on whatever is sticking out on the track. Taller sidewall tyres also bag out more, when deflating. So you get more traction. If you buy a bullbar to increase your 4wd capabilities, all you’re doing is adding dead weight to the front of your car. This will help get you bogged. The bullbar will also reduce the capacity of your high impact crumple zone system, making your family vulnerable if you hit a roo or whatever while on the highway. Google John Cadogan bullbar for more info mate.
Absolute bullshit. You need to take the manifold off....waste of 11 minutes of video.
Have you had any water leaking through the A pillar where you put the upper mount? I installed my snorkel yesterday and was thinking maybe I should have put silicone.
I didn't put any in there but I recon that's a great idea 👍
Is yours an auto or a manual?, I brought a manual because I’ve never owned an auto ever, first car was a manual but I’ve been told auto’s a way better for off road 4x4, what do you reckon mate ?
Mine is manual. I agree that auto is easier offroad but I've always preferred manual for offroading. Bit more messing around but you actually get to drive the car 👍
Stop complaining. You have a ten year warranty.
🤣
Manufacturers spend millions researching and designing their engines. Keep your 7-10 year warranty intact then do whatever you want to it I’d doubt you’d be keeping a triton longer than that anyway?
.
Without taking the manifold off you have absolutely no idea of the build up....
Great video mate, Just wondering how is this winch going so fare? As i just brought one and its to replace the Kings winch that i have on my 4x4. Cheers.
Where did you go through the firewall? I'm struggling to find a safe one for a uhf
Very good 👍🏽
Spend all thee money on accessories and you wont buy a torque wrench...stupid. It looks awesome????? Just another white ute.
Hey mate I am doing wiring for my light bar and going to use the same grommet near dpf. Did you have to drill it out or do you just push it out
Good review. I just run in A-C after using it over the years. Delivery of throttle is just right in this mode and not jerky. As we know, it still jas that initial turbo lag off 😞 dle but better than the standard sluggish response signal from the computer.
Is your a manual or auto mate
Hi I own a ml triton which has 32 inch tyres on it made the speedo correct my mn triton put same size tyres had to just got rid of the turbo lag my mr triton ijust Purchased it is standard it is a glx plus speedo is 7 km out this one is auto I looked into it will have to bring the torque range down to lower revs they say it is 430 NM torque at what range most normal driving you will never get to that torque so I think get rid of your turbo lag which will bring your torque closer to where you want it dont go ridiculous with the tune
Cool video mate.
Bad idea! Those things cause issues with the rubber hose that supplies air from the intercooler to the turbo to crack. This introduces a DPF and engine fault. Your risk however I know this because it happened to my MQ Triton
