    There are some errors in this Dhamma talk. 1. At 6:10 The Venerable says "at that time naturally the breath will become nimitta". This is Wrong. A person who studies ultimate reality knows that the Breath is made up of cittaja rupa kalapas. The patibhaga nimitta is a Concept. The cittaja rupa kalapas cannot become Patibhaga nimitta which is a concept. 2. To further clarify that this Venerable is misinterpreting anapanasati meditation, we use his own instructions:- At another point 7:18 this Venerable himself says "the Nimitta and subtle breath will become together". If his earlier statement at time 6:10 "breath will become nimitta" is true, then how can the breath later unify with this nimitta? Here, his own meditation instructions show that his statements do not match 3. We finally use the Visuddhimagga stanzas to conclude that this is a mistake. From Ven Ñānamoli's English translation of the Visuddhimagga (by Bhaddante Acariya Buddhagosa) the section of "Mindfulness of Breathing" Sign, in-breath, out-breath, are not object Of a single consciousness; By one who knows not these three things Development is not obtained. “Sign, in-breath, out-breath, are not object Of a single consciousness; By one who does know these three things Development can be obtained.” According to this Venerable's statement of "breath will become nimitta" the meditator does not know that the breath and nimitta are different. According to the above stanza, then this misunderstanding cannot lead to jhana. Also Important = the meditator has to know that the breath and the patibhaga nimitta cannot both be the object of single consciousness. 4. Another question for the listener to think 7:29 The Venerable says "unification of the breath and nimitta". Please understand that the patibhaga nimitta is a concept and is born out of perception. Can a Dhamma object born of perception and is a concept unify with rupa kalapas? 5. Another point to think about. At 10:03 The Venerable says "bright and translucent colour bhavanga mind door". The mind does not have a colour.

    • @nikolaygnatyuk7222
      @nikolaygnatyuk7222 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. Breathing is not a cittaja rupa, but a concept that is built on the basis of the cittaja rupa. So the unification of the concept of breath with the concept of nimitta is really happening. 2. The breath is united with the nimitta in such a way that the breath becomes perceived as a nimitta. That is, the conceptual form of breathing is changing. Samatha focuses on concepts rather than absolute realities. Of course, the cittaja rupas are not combined with the nimitta in any way, but they are not perceived either, since this is not vipassana. 3. You are taking the phrase out of context, we do not know in what context this quote is used, therefore we cannot draw hasty conclusions. 4. You again mix the practice of samatha and vipassana. In order to reach the level of vipassana, one must first develop samatha on concepts. Breathing is a concept, it does not exist in reality, there is no long or short inhalation, exhalation, etc., in reality. 5. Sayadaw explains this point in his other books. Bhavanga citta, samatha citta and vipassana citta are invisible, but these produce a strong color or radiance, consisting of rupa-kalaps generated by citta. These rupa-kalapas are visible, have color, can shine.

      @@nikolaygnatyuk7222 it's interesting that you say there is no long or short breath in reality, for this is what I found out to be true in my meditation practice. I am therefore uncomfortable with the interpration of the Goenka (&other) traditions of 'long and short breath' and thought it was quite unimportant for my practice of concentration. I was always seeing a sort of unmatch here with the Buddhas teachings of anapanasati. I read an interpretation that long breath is abdominal breath and short breath is breathing into the chest area. This would make more sense to me in regards to 'long and short breath' and also can be seen as in line with the next step of the teaching 'experiencing the whole body I will breath in'. However I can also see the logic between focusing on the contact and can get a feeling for how it's working. However I dont see why it should be important to know wether or not the breath is long or short.

However, in my experience, from the beginning until seeing the Bhabanga Citta, everything explained by respected Venerable Sayadaw is correctly. The person who expressed the opinion here has mixed up Samatha and Vipassana. I respect and worship my most venerable Bhante a lot because he has changed my life.
