A no nonsense 'how to' channel for the practical man. I came from a family who valued formal and university education, I did not. I wanted to leave school and be a farmer like my Grandpa. My Father insisted that if I left school early I was to be an engineer. I saw this as the less of two evils and managed to get a very good broadbased apprenticeship at an old fashioned engineering firm. I worked in a backstreet garage for a couple of years mending and welding cars. Always interested in the trades, my inspiration came from a conversation with Grandpa when I decided that I wanted to single handedly build my own house, I worked for and with joiners, brickies, plumbers and any other trades I could, soaking up knowledge. For twenty years I ran a manufacturing joinery business making staircases etc. Now I have a little farm, a bit of forrest a small machine shop, a small joiners shop and I still mend a few trucks. My channel is about giving a bit back, passing my knowledge on.

In older magnetic ballast (with the starters) fittings, the power saving is even bigger... The ones I've measured have all been roughly 85-90W drawn to power a 36W tube. You go down to about 18.5-20W with the LED, or 18W if you remove the ballast. In hotter climates, where airconditioning is used in summer, the savings are even more because most of that excess power is being turned into heat.
I didn't know that, never bothered to measure one but knowing that, it's a considerable saving if say you have ten 36w twins running. I recently bought a three pin plug in watt meter which has been interesting checking usage for various appliances. Regards, Jon
Cheers very handy

Sorry mate but I think you are senile 😂 hw rifles arguably the top of the tree.!!! Go play bingo
Jon … have you come across anyone who can calibrate the Mk 3 locator… videos or names etc?
Hello Paul, I am not quite sure what you mean, I assume that you mean adjust the handset so that it communicates with the collar? These things are factory set and should need no adjustment. First I would try both parts against known good ones to find which part is not working. The handset does have some small adjustable 'pots' inside but these are factory set and sealed with locking compound and should need no adjustment. If you have no luck I will ask my electronics guru for advice. Regards, Jon
Hey thanks Jon and yes you’re right about the pots and there are what I’m referring to. The handset was some 4ft or so ‘out’ compared to another handset… I looked up about calibration and it was these pots that set it… I believe one for depth/distance and one for the ‘squelch’ . Any way, I had ago without any luck… apart from bad luck as it’s now worse than ever! I’m just looking to finding someone who can help!
But where have you got the "T" setting ??
Top man ,thank you so much for sharing 👍🏻
Got mine in a million pieces , was wondering how to do this . Thank you .
That is really useful info. I have been looking for a system to convert Husqvarna thread to stihl spout. No need for that now. Doesn't say much for Husqvarna quality controll though , does it.
Zama carburetors are junk it's a shame husqvarna haven't replaced them with Walbro carburetors. I run my 440 husqvarna at 40:1 mixture and runs spot on
Do you fix these and if so need 2 fixed
Thank you for enquiring, unfortunately no, I do not have the time. Good luck, Jon
@wotjonsez2560 thanks for replying do you no anyone who would there would be plenty of work nowon can seen to find anyone that does
Howdy from Wyoming. My friend just gave me 1 of these to figure out what it was & it's value. He thought it was for what your doing now. I was not convinced until now. Thanks!
Enjoy it! Best regards, Jon
Many thanks for this. I realise it was posted some time ago but I have my 1GM10 out of the boat at the moment so now seems a good time make sure I don't need to lift her again for some time. I'm going to replace the pipes with copper and was wondering if you need to anneal the pipes to bend them into shape or is it worth buying annealed copper tubing to begin with?
Hello, Most narrow bore copper is supplied pre annealed. If you do need to anneal it just heat it red with a blowlamp and quench it in water. Good luck, Jon
@@wotjonsez2560 Many thanks
Good work! How much time to take the tube out?
Hi, I don't remember, not too long; and it would have been a bit quicker if I had seen this video! Good luck, Jon
Were you not worried about asbestos. I have just dropped my transmission and now having 2nd thoughts. Kinda gone bit far with it now but still humming and hawing. To my knowledge asbestos was banned fully in 99 with exemption to 73 plate or older. But will it have been banned in Japan ect where these cars were made ?
I did once research asbestos related dangers quite thoroughly. According to figures available, each one of us already breathes in twenty thousand asbestos fibers per day! No need to take any more risks than neccessary though. Wear a mask and use a vacuum and do not spread the stuff arround with compressed air. There were three unrelated but similar minerals used as asbestos, the bulk of which are harmless. The ones since identified as dangerous were used during true asbestos shortages and are relatively uncommon but indistinguishable from the harmless stuff so take care. As for myself, as an apprentice I had to saw, drill, file and sand brake linings as part of my job. I remember asking the safety officer for a mask because there was an asbestos warning motif on the roll of 'ferodo' and being told to get on with my job. I also had a friend who was a painter and decorator who died of asbestos related disease he told me that as an apprentice he regularly had to sand and prepare asbestos panelling in council houses in Sheffield. People are changing clutches and brakes all day every day so I still do it, I take some precautions but don't worry too much about it. Good luck, Jon
@ Yeh, unfortunately lost my Grandad to asbestosis back in 2019 he used to work in power stations as engineer climbing in and out of boilers which are lagged in it for fire retardant. It’s a generation thing I suppose, did some research last night and it’s showing that it was banned in Japan in 1985 or there abouts but Mitsubishi and some others continued to use it up to 2005 when they got caught essentially. So I have a 11 plate so think it’s fine but yes other materials were used ect. I’m just very wary of asbestos now after my grandad, I’ll have breathed in far worse things more than likely but still no need to take risks if not necessary. Cheers for the reply
do i need to hammer axel back to case or ?

Awsome solution well done Sir 😊

Any further progress on it?
Where would I find such a machine??
Hi, Junk shop, antique shop, ebay - search roating jack or clockwork spit. Goodluck, Jon
I own hw 98 it’s the best spring gun I’ve had in 50 years of shooting I’ve had probably twenty air rifles in that time
Thank you for watching. I do agree, it is a very good accurate gun but just far too heavy for my liking. Regards, Jon
Thank you for making this video. I was researching Koyo replacements such as this and came across both Toyo and GMB as some of the only japanese made joints available here in the states. Lokks like GMB it is.
Hi. I was wondering what the function is of the thin electrical tape connecting the cover to the body of the camera which you detach at 1:59 in the video. In trying to follow this process that tape of my camera seemed a bit more rigid and it actually ripped. However my camera still turns on and seems to be functioning as normal, I cannot find a part breakdown of this camera to be able to find another one to replace it. Any advice?
Hello, That tape is more correctly called a ribbon connector. I no longer have that camera but I think it may be to take the signal from the rotary selector on the back of the camera. Good luck, Jon
I treated myself to a new cutter and a pair of nice old vintage pliers. Unfortunately it was a bit of a fail. I got the pane cut down but it didnt break clean, the glass was quite thick do you think this makes much difference? I appreciate you posted this a year ago so you may not read this
Hello, It depends how thick. I have not had much experience cutting glass over 6mm thick that is the old quarter plate. I seem to remember when I was researching glass cutters some years ago I found that cutters are made for different ranges of glass thickness, something to do with the angle of the score that is some have a more acute angle of sharpness on the wheel than others. Good luck, Jon
very good video, but you should split the van and the Audi videos and add a good title for both of them and this would give the viewers better understanding what they will watch :D I was after Audi TT and it just come on in them middle of your video which was great!

Hi - i noticed you have videos on both the MK6 Hilux and similar year L200. I'm looking at both options and wondered what your thoughts are on which is your preferred model between the two? Thanks, Mike
Hi Mike, My experience is a bit limited however I have found the L200 by far the easiest to work on. The Toyota's have the better reputation but I think that is just a repeated urban myth. I also prefer driving the L200 and off the road it has behaved it's self very well. Good luck, Jon
@wotjonsez2560 Thanks Jon
Thank you so much. New to this but having watched a few videos then had a go, I came back to see if I could get more detail on the pattern on plucking etc. your video is EXACTLY what I needed, pointing on that yes, the fatty bits are the tricky bits! And the tendon trick is also so informative. Thank you so much. Will be sharing this video from now on
Thank you for your kind feedback. I have just started a new channel, Wotjoncooks. It's a while now since I have plucked a cold pheasant and I have developed a quick method of prepping the whole bird, my first video on this new channel shows this method. Best regards, Jon
Hey mate. Great video. Where did you find the fittings to go along with the copper pipe?
Thank you. They are just brake pipe fittings. I have loads of them, bought them years ago. Salvage them from any old vehicle (with metric fittings) otherwise motor factors or ebay. Good luck , Jon
I have a 2'x2' chimney in the middle/ridge of a 35/40 degree concrete tile roof and have 4'x4' typical tower scaffold. I was wondering if I could get this around the stack to replace a cracked pot.
You probably could but be aware; chimneys are often very unstable structures and not necessarily safe things to secure yourself to. Be careful, Jon
@@wotjonsez2560 Thanks, I'm now thinking of knocking up a timber frame that will be plenty sturdy I only really need a bench to sit to render. I can run a rope over the roof to clip to.
Do you have information on how the collar around the top of the filler neck fits into the plastic pipe shield assy? I can't seem to figure out and had to cut it to pull the filler neck out.
Sorry, I don't remember it being difficult though. We drilled the pop rivets out and just lifted the plastic piece away i think. Have a look at our tub removal video. Good luck, Jon
Don't use those blueish galvanized bolts, they will rust fast and bad. Use yellow chromated or hot dip galvanized or zinc flake coated bolts instead. Of course with all of them, don't screw them in and out more than necessary. Anti sieze is recommended.

The crack pulley / harmonic balancer started to separate ?
Yes, that's why we had to replace it.
Great tip.
I see that all the factory gig holes in the 2 main. rails are closed off with plastic grommets on my hilux , was that done by uk dealers or in the factory ...........I see on most they are left open ...?
Dunno. Could have been done by a previous owner?
I have a hot jet s ch-6056 4 amps it came without the blower and heat control is it possible to add it ? And thanks for showing us your great work.
Thank you. I've been looking everywhere to see how many amps these things draw and it looks like 10. My Ford has it go straight from the key switch so I didn't think it took many. But it has a new key switch (I just got the tractor). I've been wondering about putting in a relay. I used to have an older Ford that had a relay but it didn't have diesel fuel coming into the plug like this one. I thought these types were like a cigarette lighter as far as amps, which doesn't require a relay. Ill bet it caused the ignition switch to have a shorter life, though.
Hi, It's worth having a look at my other video, Genuine thermostart v spurious. I agree better through a relay and a separate momentary switch, the springs wear out in the ignition switches and the thermostart does not switch off and burns it's self out, thirty quid down the drain. Good luck, Jon
What if you turned the pressure up on the steamer, would it take the hair off without having to scrape it?
Don't know, try it and let us know. Thanks, Jon
Thanks for the information, I think my fuel lift pump is not working
Could be an air lock in the supply pipe or the small gauze filter in the lift pump (or a faulty pump). I can never understand why they do not fit a proper filter in the supply pipe before the pump. Good luck, Jon
So I took the plate off and saw my fuel lifters are moving but almost like mines not getting enough pressure tho until after cranking for a long time.
Hi! I was wondering if you have an email address that I can contact you on? I have a question & it’s pretty long for a TH-cam comment
The Rekord sear engagement screw is a torx 7. Weihrauch make it this way to dissuade unnecessary meddling.
Thank you. I have not come across a record trigger that new! I always find it a bit odd that manufacturers assume than we do not have driver tips for odd sizes and security screws etc. Regards, Jon
Saves me googling how to measure knobs 😂😂😂
Be careful what you ask for! Regards, Jon
Good vid. Shame about the mother in-law haha.
