2021 06 28 Rescue on Great Gable - Arrow Head Gulley v5
มุมมอง 13K3 ปีที่แล้ว
A nine hour rescue for the Wasdale team running from one day into early morning the next. Two walkers on Great Napes, Great Gable in Wasdale - luckily they decided to hold their position above a considerable drop in Arrow Head Gulley. A very slippery and loose area with rock falls a real risk for both rescuers and casualties. Mountain rescue teams are all separate charities with around 40 volun...

It can all turn pretty nasty so fast very dangerous place you need to respect the hell out of
Well done fellas
Well done to all the rescue team and fabulous use of drone technology, I know first hand how scary it can be if you go slightly wrong on Great Gables Napes.
9 hours!! ?
Why didn't they just go back up
Yeah I don't understand... I guess both got petrified because of the steepness and refused to move from the spot they were at for fear of falling
I don't think the video does justice to how steep it is. Hence why the rescue team have to abseil down
What would we do without the MRT?
We should salute to the volunteers f.N.Z.
As someone who has recently tackled Helvellyn and loves walking in the Lake District, I think you deserve to be paid for the fantastic work you do! Maybe MP’s should donate some of their salary to something more deserving.
Best of luck guys!
Look everyone! The rescue services wear helmets why aren't more of you?
I'm sorry and I know people will think I'm being harsh, but those two are idiots! How and why? The conditions look good for hiking, no low cloud, no rain etc. Hopefully the learn from this
No one comes to TH-cam to read SMH
Defender windscreen wipers, shocking!
Mountain rescue are phenomenal! I think anyone who enjoys the mountains etc should make a monthly donation to their local rescue. Heroes 🙌🏻
Always amazed by the rescue writeups, seeing this footage is just fantastic. Quite a staggering undertaking for volunteers, well done all involved!
Oh good god, how on earth did they get themselves into that position?! Only proper climbers would go anywhere near there. It is going to be a long Summer for MRT.
I'm pretty sure that wasn't the plan... Or was it? After all, everyone who gets rescued off the crags seems to get free pizza. I may go and get cragfast myself 😂
@@beatbasher I am sure it wasn't but I would like to think I would have turned back before I got there. Easily said though.
have to be honest Jo . walked and done a bit of scrambling in wasdale and other parts of the lake district for years and more than once bit off more than i could chew but managed to get out of it Luckily ! but you do learn from them experiences. so thankful we have the mountain rescue who are all volunteers and rely on public donations. take care my friend
@@gnrtn9184 I have to admit I came of GG the wrong way once, got down much faster than intended 😟 But where these guys ended up was straight off the Wasdale Head side near the Napes which is pretty sheer, you can see that from the top. But I appreciate that by the time you realise it is the wrong way you can't go back up. MRT are incredible, I have nothing but admiration for them.
Lots of people try to that way, to see the Needle.
Well done to everyone involved. ❤️ The drone is certainly a handy tool to have, giving a better idea of the job in hand.
Stellar job, that must have been no mean feat.
How long does the battery on a drone with lamp last?
Glad to hear people are respecting the advice been given out.
I wonder if it is timely to have a volunteer group, to back up the MRTs. I think there are a lot of outdoor people desperate to get back on the Fells and the only thing stopping them is respect for MRTs. I think the quality of volunteers would be high. There's a lot of outdoor professionals furloughed at the moment. Obviously, this shouldn't send out a message for the Lakes to be flooded with casualties for the NHS to deal with. Done right it'll just take the pressure of the MRTs.
Glad to hear the message seems to be heeded; Stay Safe and Well, guys.
Thanks to ALL emergency services, esp all those who give their time freely to look after the rest of us; Hope you can all Stay Safe in this period of darkness...........and that the on going period of good weather does not tempt people to break the governments advice. Again. THANKS.
