Finding love isn’t hard for modern women. Modern women’s expectations of men are preposterously high and their own valuation of themselves as women is even more ridiculously higher.

I was indeed in a relationship with a malignant narcissist before. The second person I met showed similar behavior (love-bombing, secrecy, push-and-pull...) and I thought he was just another narcissist I had attracted despite having been to counseling and healed from the first experience. I went no contact for two months, reflected on the situation how we never argued, and wished him a happy birthday then. We re-connected. Turned out, he told me he was in therapy and his therapist told him he was a dismissive avoidant. He's actively working on his trauma and does not want to commit to a relationship before he can be the person he wants himself to be for others. This experience has taught me to not be super fast to label somebody a narcissist. Since I have been through that experience before, I could tell the difference as my bond deepened with my dismissive avoidant friend who's taking accountability and has never blamed me for anything.

Younger men are not bad at all. They are just a bit childish.

Women are struggling because their biology is in conflict with their politics and social conditioning. You cant have equality and hypergamy at the same time. Successful men have always married “down” in terms of status, and have always been willing to share their resources with less accomplished women and children. The problem is the “Tall woman syndrome”. Women want a man that is taller than themselves in status and competence….no matter how tall they are themselves. But the higher you climb, the smaller your pool of mates becomes if you are unwilling/resent having to choose someone “shorter” (less accomplished) and share your resources. That is women want the freedom and power of equality. But want to hold on to the privilege of hypergamy. Can’t have both. The math doesn’t work. Especially when you do put women with a pool of superior men? They simply “raise their standards” even higher. They feel a drive to pursue the best of what is available. Either chasing a perfection that doesn’t exist, or will never commit to her should she stumble into it.

The culture present in today's society does not value relationships. People are no longer settling and it's easier to be alone. That is the truth of the matter. Modern popular culture is diametrically opposed to relationships. We all follow the culture to some extant, unless you make a conscious decision to rebel from it.

You should look up how women rate men on dating apps. The average man is not "good enough" for the average woman. Women reject 90%+ of men after a quick glance without even talking to them. Thus the current dating landscape.

The only scenario in which "Men do not put in any effort", "Men only want to hook up", "Men are OK with the woman talking to other men" makes any sense is the - unfortunately typical - case in which women date out of their league (or if they are in the top 10% themselves: dating only those men who only want to hook up). Women can limit their dates to the top 10% of men but it is quite dumb to expect a relationship as outcome. "Protection" as in "He has to prove himself" (does she have to, too?) sounds quite funny as it probably means that men are expected to pay for even more dates.
