Secret Spots Revealed: Fishing Cherokee, N.C.
Thank you I really appreciate it!
I will be there next weekend day after Thanksgiving. I will have my 17 year old grandson and 2 of his friends that have never camped before. How do you think the fishing will be? Maybe I can see you out there fishing.
I would work the deep water in front of Paul's Restaurant. Use night crawlers or crickets. No stocking is taking place at this time in Catch an Keep. The other place is down below Paul's at that walk bridge.
If you’re not camping there, are you allowed to fish it?
You can fish but must park on Big Cove Rd.
@ thanks, just saw your whole video. They got really nasty with us 2 years ago because we parked in the wrong spot but we had never been there before. It was great fishing but we stayed clear of them ever since. Love your videos btw, we fish Cherokee with a lot of friends and family every April
Why are you showing folks the good spots?
Theres plenty of locations to fish in Cherokee. Some folks want to know if it's easy access and many not sure where to go to fish. Remember these waters are stocked so plenty of trout to go around to everyone. Thanks for watching.
No Panther Martin!??
probably hidden in that rack somewhere.
I will check them out next year. We were up there a week before the hurricane hit but didn't fish any because the water looked so low and they didnt stock the ponds. I'm kind of gimped up and have to find easy access..
I understand. Some easy access at across from Paul's Restaurant and at the Oconaluftee Park. I have a few places listed in some videos on it. Good luck.
You must like company
Enjoy your videos, love the river and countryside, wish I would have seen your videos the first me and my brother-in-law came to Cherokee, fished over by the casino that was a good spot.
Sure is a great spot lots of smaller holes in there takes some work to get in there but can limit out.
Nice one.
Thanks!
Use to stay every year at River Valley Campground starting back around 92. Thanks for sharing.
Your welcome.
Thanks. Why do you fish with Red Mono? What size is the line?
4 lb. Cajun. I like mono for the stretching. Your not really setting the hook trout fishing.
We have been to that store and they are really helpful. Thank you again for sharing.
Your welcome. I always get a hotdog sit outside an talk to the fisherman.
What set up are you using
I use a ultralight outfit. Cheap Walmart $50 outfit and I got several ones from Cabela's under $100. 4 lb test Cajun. #2 spinner Blue Fox. Gold.
you fishing in a fly fisning only part of the river..
No. The video watch all of it from Bridge downstream is fly fishing. 2.2 miles. Your see the sign at the walk bridge.
Heyman is correct. He was in the catch and keep section
@@HeeyManFishing type shi
Thanks for the tips. Much appreciated.
You got it!
I've fished about all of the fishable water in Cherokee. I don't usually use a float in deep holes. I use a split shot and a hook similar to what you used. I also use nightcrawlers or other jumbo size worms. Or, we might drive down below Bryson City and buy minnows. It's not easy toting a minnow bucket around but most the deeper holes are fairly easy to get to. I use the same rig as for worm fishing. I cast across or upstream and keep the line tight while the bait lightly bounces across on or near the bottom.
Minnows sounds interesting. Have yet to use them. Do u get more hits on Minnows verse worms?
@@HeeyManFishing If the fish are biting good there's not much difference. If I have worms and minnows, I'll fish a hole first with worms and then switch to minnows when the bite slows down. You'll generally catch larger trout on minnows. I dropped my son off at one big hole and drove down to another good hole a few hours before dark. He had the minnow bucket and I had worms. We both limited out but he had three big ones 16-21 inches. The biggest was a brown trout. They seem to hit better just before dark in my experience.
I'd like to meet you up there some time. Can you let me know next time you are there? I would love to hang out with you for a few hours and fish!
Wow 😮 nice fish!
Thanks for sharing
You are very welcome!
That's just ridiculous to harm an innocent fish like that, jabbing a hook in it's mouth when it thinks it's food then drag him through the water regardless of his feelings and plan on eating it...... Without inviting me.😂
Is church on big cover road?
Yes it is. Can't miss it on right off the road.
Big Cove road
I caught one out at Mingo Falls the week after the storms but not much else but that might be more telling of the level of angler I am lol
It's hit and miss especially when they have not stocked.
Thank you for sharing. Did you catch a limit fishing on those spots?
No this was just showing locations. The hatchery lost a raceway. No stocking in Catch & Keep until January. Past trips yes in the areas. That first hole few years back the hatchery trk stop above me an fellow did not know I was down there on the rock fishing had trout coming over my head.
That's good to know cause I was wondering if they're going to stock fish back up before the Trout Opener Tournament next year. I usually go up there and participate in the Trout Tournament. Thank you again for sharing all these spots and looking forward to fishing those spots next year.
Thats great, I thought it would be washed out due to flooding, good to know it wasn't .
Hatchery suffer flooding in one raceway. Going to take some time to get back to normal.
@@HeeyManFishing The last spot you went to is a great spot very pretty park, my wife and I love Cherokee, hope to be back in the spring, we are from Texas, maybe I'll run into you. Tight lines!!
Hope to see you when your up in Spring. God Bless.
Appreciate your efforts and tips. Thank you.
My pleasure!
So is that a bait ball above the bass or no? And is it just a random spot or some sort of structure
At 1:40 Bass on bottom in structure. Above them yes bait fish.
Can these spots be fly fished? Or is it fly fishing only up passed the parkway?
You can use a fly rod in Catch & Keep waters. Fly Rod only in Catch & Release.
@@HeeyManFishing Thank you sir. Let's catch us a big'un!
I love the last spot you fished. Any trails down to make access easier ? Do I need the rope ?
Yes there's a path down. For safety i use a rope off the back of my truck down as it's steep. Waters pretty deep in spots. There's a sign Catch & Keep posted. Anytime you see a sign there's always a path to the river. Good luck.
@@HeeyManFishing Thanks friend. I am not as young and agile as I used to be.
Heeyman, great video. Could you take just a second and type out exactly what we'd need to fish this to be legal besides a NC freshwater license? SC resident here and want to carry the kids up there. Thanks man!
Absolutely. Go to the EBCI site here . You can buy the permits online. A N.C. License is not necessary on tribal waters. A one day tribal permit is $10. The site is pretty self explanatory. Good luck on the fishing. ebci-licensing.s3licensing.com/?catalogItem=Fishing
I will try it out
Let me know how it goes!
Hey Benny, It’s good to see you out there living good brother! 🇺🇸
Hey, thanks
That thumb looked nasty.
Yes it was .
Oh my goodness hope you are ok? I know that was painful.
Good to go. Neighbor fish early in the week and call me out to lake to help him. Used the fishing line removal trick to get out of his hand.
Peter’s Pankcakes is our favorite place to eat in town!
Oh yea. Great food with a view.
Do you usually fish upstream or down? Does it matter? Thanks
Live bait, I cast up and let it drift down pass me. Spinners for me it's downstream. If your in the stream say middle through at the 9 or 3 o'clock position if that makes sense.
@@HeeyManFishing Thanks for that info. Take care
We have fished that hole before. That’s some of the deepest water around town for sure.
Very deep.
Thank you for sharing, this is very helpful. Please keep them coming.
Thank you! Will do!
Stocked trout love bridges!

Looks like these holes have been fished out.
They'll get restocked. Thanks for watching. Good luck on your next trip.
Awesome video, good looking crappie. I notice your line was red and not clear. I guess the crappie didn’t mind .😃
