Flint Knapping a Humboldt Point pt. 6 Final - Salvage operation and finishing
After making some mistakes, I did what any sensible knapper would do and compromised by settling for whatever I could get. Overall, the point came out good, but not without a fight!

Flint Knapping a Humboldt Point pt. 5 - Recessed Platform Preparation for Pressure Flaking
มุมมอง 13K14 ปีที่แล้ว
In this segment I demonstrate special platform preparation for a parallel oblique pressure flake pattern without abrading. Special platforms are prepared individually, rather than a "quicky" continuous abraded platform. The result is a more authentic looking flaking pattern. I also discus tool attributes for a good pressure flaker when using antler/bone.
Flint Knapping - How to Acquire and Slab Colorful Glass for Knapping!
มุมมอง 35K14 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I discuss how to procure man-made glass for knapping. I also take you on a brief tour of my rock garden.
Flint Knapping a Humboldt Point pt. 4 - Fluting Archaic Style
มุมมอง 14K14 ปีที่แล้ว
In this segment I demonstrate how the base of these points may have been prepared prior to pressure flaking parallel oblique. This technique evolved from Clovis.
Flint Knapping a Humboldt Point pt. 3 - Refining the Preform
มุมมอง 14K14 ปีที่แล้ว
This is the most boring step in the reduction process but it's also the most crucial one - refining the blade. Skip to chapter four if you don't feel like watching this segment. I thrown in a few tips here and there, but overall its just boring preparation work.
Flint Knapping a Humboldt Point pt. 2 - Hammerstone Preform
มุมมอง 19K14 ปีที่แล้ว
In this segment I pick up where we left off with hammerstone thinning.
Flint Knapping a Humboldt Point pt. 1 - Hammerstone Preform
มุมมอง 64K14 ปีที่แล้ว
Here I discuss my Theory on the flaking pattern of this particular point. I also demonstrate how hammerstones were likely used in the far west. Hammerstone work is often confused with antler billet work. The difference is how the hammerstone is used - with the flat side. The vast majority of artifacts found in western states have flaking that is indicative of soft hammerstone percussion.

Traditionsl flint was using organic materiald. Bone, stone, antler, hoof, & horn.6k years sgo they began to smelt making copper tools. Most returned to the materials provided. Could this have been a spiritual connection?

I took these boppers a small but significantly effective step further..using oak dowel stock and coresponding copper pipe end caps. The "Magic" comes when you ntegrate lead bird shot into the empty space between the bopper stryke face and empty void. So far so good

Copper....traditional tools? To learn modern stone tool industries. After 30 research into Traditional aboriginal Lithic Technology I can say the use of modern tools is the best way to bypass learning imparitive skills found in the Archeological record that reflect how pre-Neolithic humans made Stone Tools.

  • @magwamagwa45110
    @magwamagwa45110 3 ปีที่แล้ว

well you are still zig zagging just in reverse which you have to do some variation on a slab to knap both sides. Also by working into the mass you stand a much bigger chance of breaking the piece.. that is why most knap away from the base like starting at the base and taking flakes away from the mass same with working from the tip. Ishi was very unique with his knapping it is the beauty of the craft thanks for sharing....

I don't know about you, but I've never found an agate that spalls very well. It produces dangerous edges, but always fractures and breaks up pretty small. Heat treating changes much of that behavior though.
