    Even today you can see how tough of a man/player Bob Lilly is. He was a beast on the defensive line.

    I will always believe that Lombardi intentionally turned off the “electric blanket”. He knew the Packers were no match for the Cowboys speed on a normal field, so he decided to take it away by letting the field freeze. If that game had been played in Dallas, the Cowboys would have killed Green Bay………I guess that’s why they call it “the home field advantage”…….lol

    Simple Fact. The Packers were next level tough!! Vincent Thomas Lombardi forged a team of Blue Steel and Iron Hearts. All NFL players by definition are tough. The Packers simply elevated that time honored Badge of Courage to an art form. "We reached down. And we found a little Lombardi," in Jerry Kramers immortal words. The Packers "FOUND LOMBARDI" in every post season game they appeared In after the 1960 Championship game. NINE DIFFERENT TIMES REACHING INTO THE WELL AND FINDING GOLD!! This encounter in Lombardis next to last game elevates them to a team for the ages. Playing under the worst conditions ever dredged up by Mother Nature, they marched more than 60 yards on that final drive to glory. The Lombardi Packers were simply a team like no other.

    In 1972 or 1973, I was playing pee wee football where I wore Bob Lilly's number and played his position. My coach told me if I wanted to be a great defensive tackle, I needed to watch Bob Lilly play on Sunday. Cut to the scene in an airport the same year where I spied Mr. Cowboy in the terminal. I told my dad "hey, that's Bob Lilly!" Dad said, "Well go over and introduce yourself." Scared to death, I approached him and introduced myself. He could not have been more gracious. He must have talked to me for 20 minutes. He treated me like I was the star football player instead of him and made a life long impression on me. I can't tell you how impressed I was and how much respect I have for this great humble man.

    As a Believer and former skater, I think the best thing about Scott is he’s our brother in Christ. It’s beautiful and different to see how he has changed into this man of faith. He was saved in December 2006 and I was saved just before him in July 2006, so in advance Happy Birthday Scott!

    Sometimes I wonder about inflation calculators. Lily’s salary when he started was $11,500. That’s $115,000 today according to burea of vital statistics. Doesn’t seem too bad.

    This is coming from a NY Giants fan who hated the Cowboys. Bob Lilly is one of the toughest football players in the history of the NFL. His mean demeanor and tremendous athletic ability on the field made him great yet when the game was over win or lose his grace was always on display. A true gentleman who I will always respect.

    Lilly was a great player. Always respected him Two great teams played on a Frozen field. Weather tested both teams but Packers previaled on great drive never Forget that last 4 minutes. Bart directed Offense As usual despite the cold and limited time Packers and fans celebrate after the final.gun sound! They were Champions again. Go Packers! o

    Great player on a great team. Lombardi fooled him at the 11 yard line on the last drive. Gillingham pulled to the right and Lilly chased. Mercein ran a counter thru the vacated hole to the three, which set up the winning TD. I was there. Freezing.

    I was 10 when I went to my first Cowboy game in the Cotton Bowl. 1965, they played Jim Brown and the Cleveland Browns. I was in awe of Lilly, Meredith, Hayes, Jordan, Andrie, Howley, Landry and of course seeing the greatest running back of all time Jim Brown. The Cowboys lost and I cried. The Browns were a juggernaut then. I had chill bumps or some say goose flesh watching this great game and great athletes in person. I'm still in awe of the players I idolized as a kid in the 60s. The 70s the same thing.

    11,500 salary that Bob Lilly made in 1961 calculates to 111,000 in 2022 so Mr Lilly was living just fine!

    Lombardi was pissed Starr called the timeout before Kramers block as probably everybody else on the field and in the stadium was because hell froze over that day. Starr was asking permission to run the same play but without the handoff because they'd been stopped 3x because nobody could get their footing on the ice. Lombardi with his earmuffs is agreeing for a change and says OK run the play and let's get the hell out of here. First game in NFL history played by arctic troops. Landry and Lombardi had been Giants assistants together so what one knew so did the other. Except I don't think Landry had earmuffs that day. Probably the same fedora. Just checked hoodie over the fedora.

    Jerry Kramer and Ken Bowman double-teamed Jethro Pugh, for Bart Starr's game-winning TD. If they had tried running the play to Bob Lilly's side, could he have stuffed Starr, and preserved the win, for the Cowboys?

    • @lsrasr158
      @lsrasr158 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jerry Kramer said the play was intended against Pugh. Pugh played more upright and Kramer said they could wedge Pugh for Starr to do the QB sneak.

    A real football. No artificial turf, no domes, no crap, clothes lines, holding, kicking, biting and defense could play even with the offensive side. Players played because they loved the game, now they are looking for the money and spend it ASAP
