Progress
Only now do I feel comfortable saying I've made progress. I've not bounced back, I'm not a new person but I have learned a lot about myself and I'm now better at recognising my triggers and how to deal with them. This video would've been very even different six months ago. Just this morning I met up with a friend and and we talked as we rode and I couldn't help thinking that that's exactly what this film and ASCND is about and why cycling is so good for enabling those conversations. I want this video to be a signpost to The New Normal Charity and what they do. An alternative to traditional therapy, peer to peer support has made a huge difference to me. Listening to people who are experiencing similar thoughts, doubts and worries and how they cope has had a massive impact on me and I urge you to give it a try or send them some support via a donation.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this and made it possible.

Mental health and Movember with Sky
มุมมอง 613 ปีที่แล้ว
Super grateful to Gareth and Sky for having me. Our discussion was based around our experiences and why I’m working with Movember. Hopefully I’ll get more opportunities like this and get to meet more people and share our experiences. Please like, subscribe and share.

Factor bikes have joined me to raise money for Movember and to help raise money and awareness around mental health and suicide prevention. Follow the link to find out more and to enter the competition (raffle £20 entry). Each day in Movember I'm going to ride and make sure I share a coffee or beer and "check in" on someone everyday. It might be a spin down the road, it might be 300 km, who know...

Lock down V2 has been announced here in the U.K. and here’s what I’m doing to try and help people who might be feeling down or isolated. Each day in Movember I'm going to ride and make sure I share a coffee or beer and "check in" on someone everyday. It might be a spin down the road, it might be 300 km, who knows? I want to highlight the importance of getting out with a friend, we can ride toge...

Nick, hi. Hear you here...You’ve touched upon a very good point that socializing is getting so vital now...and I’d really hope to add in post Covid time.. commuting by cycling is a getting a real therapy in nowadays especially for males..Researches confirm that men experience subjective loneliness 4x times higher “in the crowd” than women. (Thomas Joiner clinical psychologist recently wrote a good book “Lonely at the top: The high cost of men’s success”) I’ve been all sort of cycling for years but took a time out with regular road commuting cycling...Definitely am going to bring it back this year, and fact is choosing between Factor O2 or BMC SLR01 which I’d been so happy to ride... Likely will pick Factor O2 to refresh my cycling riding feel...) How do you find it by the way? Enjoy your rides..)

No limit to areas as yet, but may extend to country wide. Lots of press coverage of the auzzie who ride every road in 2 miles from his home. Did almost 1000 miles. Great idea, good luck.

Hello Nick. Thanks for sharing this. More than 20 families in our campaign group have lost children to suicide due to bullying & violence in schools. I wondered if you would help us raise awareness of our fight to stop this happening to others by sharing our short video story and perhaps commenting on the children's plight on the video once you've seen it. th-cam.com/video/98rGW2xTCjs/w-d-xo.html

Some years ago I told two of my closest mates I was struggling with depression and on medication. I thought these two blokes were friends for life. Within 2 months both, one an old navy mate and the other a civillian, had said pretty much the same thing. Don't call us we'll call you. I have my wife, kids, dog and cat. I don't have friends or a social life. I work, sleep and focus on family. It's not enough though. Cycling is without a doubt the thing that keeps me going. I feel cleansed after a ride, but I do miss the social element.

Mark Philp hey Mark. I had a similar problem and stopped trusting and relying on people. However the last couple of years I’ve decided to work on my relationships and it’s really helped build a small network of friends I can talk to and it includes my girlfriend and eldest daughter. It’s hard work but worth sticking with it. Good luck and keep riding

Nick, you are not letting anyone down. All of us pull out of stuff all the time in order to rest and restore. It's so natural to take breaks whenever you need to without explanation. IT IS DOWN TO YOU to take care of yourself. Never apologise or be sorry about the time you're taking out. You're doing epic things!
