The only context in which Yugi’s deck makes sense is, if you subscribe to the belief that his deck is Kazuki Takahashi’s original vision of how the game was meant to be played. Just 40-60 random cards that you think are cool slapped together in a pile with very little in common. Yusei has a similar theme of random ass cards that don’t necessarily go together but his at least makes narrative sense, he built his deck from cards that other people threw away.
people comparing yugis orginal deck to their decks 20 years later filled with gx and 5ds cards , and saying it sucks, 20 years later, like it wasn't game changing at the actual time of the show, has made me realize how dumb ppl on the internet have become, and buddy the chance of pulling one card in a 40 card deck is 1 in 40, its really that simple man. not to mention all of thee modern little youtubers are complely taking all of these classic shows like dbz and yugioh wayyyy out of context, do they even watch the whole show...heart of the cards... shadow game, God cards that actually played like God cards
it does not need to make sense, he prints whatever he wants. LOL
His deck may be nonsensical but on the other hand... His Grandpa's deck tho...
Do this for Jaden please
Yugi said, "a deck is only 15 cards that you'll never change and the rest is purely for experimentation"
He’s won because he had THE HEART OF THE CARDS
This why Yugi is the best duelist in entire series, because he become a king of duelist by a “deck” like this.
You guys are analytical nerds. The first deck is the best because it. just is. Every kid wanted those 5 cards and that first episode is iconic.
Big shield gardna is absolutely amazing with inverse universe
For card advantage I could quote Jojo's Bizarre Uno Game: "piling up more cards means more ways for me to beat the sh!t out of you" And it is so right.
How would you fix yogi deck with the cards out today but still follow his theme
God loves ya,repent
Makiu actually wipes the field of every monster whose DEF is equal to or lower than Summoned Skull's CURRENT ATK. This means that Summoned Skull equipped with generally any big equip card (Mage Power, United We Stand, Axe of Despair, etc) can effectively wipe the field. Under Duelist Kingdom rules, if your attack position monsters were destroyed by an effect, half of their ATK was deducted from your LP. So just imagine Yugi vs Kaiba and Yugi hits kaiba with Summoned Skull and Makiu after he summons 2 any 2 monsters over 2000 ATK.
I think at that time monster with special eff are super rare. The play style likely summon a strong monster, counter opponent summon with spell or trap card. Not the one combo with 4 5 chains lol. Hand trap are rare and not strong too.
but yeah too much RNG element. image get 4 high cost card or all of spell card at start.
Decided to watch the first episode of the original Yu-Gi-Oh! anime because I remembered keeping up with it as a kid. That show is legit ass.
Mystical Moon works with Beast-Warriors, not Beasts.
This was a well thought out and well edited video! I've always known in the back of my eye that Yugi's deck and indeed most anime decks aren't actually put together with any thought but this video nicely illustrates the specifics. Another thing to mention is that all of Yugi's cards are always one-ofs probably to make the cards feel special for anime reasons or whatever. One criticism. Your audio could use a lot of improvement. The mixing is weird as the background music seemed way too quiet at first. Also you should really invest in a better microphone when you can, it's quite below average. The general audio quality almost made me click off right away.
We don't have heart of card
You know, I noticed that a lot of characters mostly just ran singleton for their decks. It is rare to see anyone run more than one copy of a card in their deck, and even when they do, it is usually just one one card they run more copies of.
Yugi’s deck can’t be used by others because “There Can Be Only One!”
What about dark side of dimensions
Clearly many don’t believe in the heart of the cards 😔
Not running multiple copies of any cards is pretty crazy too lol
Honestly it really doesn't matter It's an anime and it's early Yu-Gi-Oh honestly I actually enjoy early dual monsters over the current meta because it was kind of fun to be able to like take miscellaneous cards and just trying to make a deck around it you know It feels way more fun than okay here's the elemental heroes right okay great So I'm doing an entire elemental hero deck okay cool that's that's fine and all but where's the fun and all of that because you already know it's archetype you know something's charming about everybody in the first Yu-Gi-Oh series Just haven't miscellaneous cards and being able to strategize around them. And don't give yourself a headache trying to explain Yugi's deck or why it doesn't make any sense is anime
I've recreated his episode one Grandpa's deck and it's... so bad... you literally need to be able to put the card you want on top deck.
Yugi is the best because he is using speed duel skill cards while everyone is playing like goat format
8:18 this makes me physically angry because Black Hole would have wipped the field and leave the opponent open
There are two things that I think are worth noting that weren't really accounted for in this analysis. First, the heart of the cards, which others in the comment section have noted, but that's just a dub change because 4kids didn't want a cheater to be the MC; in the original, it's actually probability manipulation to guarantee he gets the card he needs when he needs it, which is the ability of the millenium puzzle. Second, in duelist kingdom the life point total is only 2000, so he didn't need his beaters to be much better than they were, and frankly there weren't a whole lot of better beaters in the card pool at the time; in battle city the life point total goes up to 4000, and the average atk of Yugi's beaters goes up as well to compensate, so again, the monsters being relatively weak isn't a huge deal. 1400 atk isn't great when your opponent has 8000 life points, but it's actually pretty strong when they only have 2000. That said, the fact that he doesn't run multiple copies of anything is pretty bad, but I'm not sure anybody else did either, other than maybe the cheater guy with the altered cards and the exodia pieces. Oh yeah, and Kaiba's three blue eyes, but I don't think he ran multiples of anything else and having three blue eyes was kinda the whole gimmick of the deck. It seems like having multiple copies of anything is rare and notable in that era of the anime world, I'm not even sure we see multiple people use the same card other than the cheater with the dark magician. So it can be said that within the metagame of the anime the deck is at the very least decent, and given it is designed to exploit the millenium puzzle cheat ability, it makes sense he would have so many situational cards, since he can reasonably expect to draw them in the situations where he needs them and not when he doesn't.
HEART OF THE CARD😭
Yeah no shit his decks are shit. The people only had to animate however many cards he played not his entire deck. Nobody is going to create a full deck concept when they only ever play 5 of the 40 cards
Dudes... it's the same thing for every single character... it's not strictly plot armor or heart of cards... it's just a writing necessity. Plot armor is the fact he always win, it's scripted of course. However the fact EVERYONE draws perfect involves EVERYONE
Yugi making the rules along the way to win
Heart of the Cards bro
Back then they don't have sacrifice system.
it does from a hero battle perspective. and yugioh is supsoed to be hero battle colorized. And hero battle has all teh same cards nad in a hero battle pserpective it has to much of and advanteag ejus tnot in yugioh.
Turn the music up louder, I can still barely hear you
What doesn’t make sense is the card pot of greed. Somebody care to explain?
I'm quickly realizing Yugi might just be a gambling addict.
Also, anime card is far stronger
You’re forgetting the heart of the cards pal
its funny that in the manga yugi beat marik and raw by just suing magical dimension. like a much more practical card but no they had to make it an epic end for Raw, which mind you did look cool, but unnecessary
Port armor at its greatest
The game literally didn't have rules until after the yugi arc in the manga lol
As a former 2000s school playground duelist, I can confirm, GX Jaden's elemental hero deck is a more viable deck than ANY deck in yu gi oh DM 😂
1:20 "Only used twice"? That doesn't seem correct. I mean, there's at least the Weevil battle and the Kaiba imposter battle off the top of my head. Yugi never mentions having another deck and uses much of the same cards. Are you not counting those? Edit: never mind you address this later. Grandpa's deck only in use for the first Kaiba battle and Pegagus's duel, because Yugi and Yami alter it after Exodia was thrown. Checks out.
Yeah i give this a Jaiden Stomps out of 10. Negative synergy and overreliance. A nightmare to actually play
Basically the millennium item helps him cheat the card he needs to win even doe he just has to draw it and play it
Lotta misreads in this video. Your analysis is okay, but you misread and in turn, misinterpreted the effects of Ragnarok and Full Moon. You also swapped Beta and Alpha’s names when discussing the magnet warriors. Definitely go slower next time be you do your research, the text on screen is literally contradicting stuff you say! Ex: Ragnarok isn’t Raigeki. It’s a full board wipe. It banishes and destroys all cards, not just all Monsters so mirror force couldn’t be activated, in the example you used. Still a very situational card, but it’s way better than you made it out to be.
Couldn’t you just send all exodia pieces to the graveyard then whenever you get a chance to summon a monster from the graveyard summon exodia since all pieces are in the graveyard
