Mouth tutorial: Moho 13.5

In this tutorial I show how to make three different types of mouths that I've used. While I mostly just use the switch layer mouth the smart rig and the pin bone mouth do have their uses. The mouth switch layer is the most common used in animation, and would be the one I'd recommend that any new animator should try first. The mouth smart rig layer is has a learning curve to it but has many usef...
How to make Danny Phantom effects in Moho 13: Tutorial

This is a tutorial on how to make Danny Phantom effects in Moho 13, although I'm sure these same methods would work in other animation programs. IMPORTANT: I forgot to put this into the tutorial but to achieve the ghost glow effect the the Danny Phantom ghosts have, you'll want to make a second white outline with a soft edge and put it behind the layer that is to glow. This way it doesn't over ...

hello sir i changed the shape of one layer on animation time line frame 1 but i want the same shape on frame zero as default shape to use it as separate layer is there any solution bcz going back to frame zero and making same shape wasting more time
can u give me solution to this problem
Go to frame 1 and copy the frames in the time line, then paste them on frame 0. This will make frame 0s default the new shape and you then can delete the frames on frame 1
There's also a way to change a setting in Moho to make anything done later in the time line will also effect frame 0. I don't remember where it is though. I do know that this tutorial is where I learned that so maybe this will help you get what you're looking for th-cam.com/video/Xf9lmKgK8J4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=S1cP5CqgTl0apC4S
@@DevinKrauss helo sir i created smart bone using 0 to 90 degrees angle to change shape of purticular layer its working fine but the problem is at frame 5 on time line i changed the shape of the layer using smart bone at the angle 35 degrees so i want to copy same shape formed on frame 5 at angle 35 in another layer as default shape like that i want to create more layers with out drawing to save time is it posible plz give replay
@ma5tv393 it depends in how complex the shape is. The simpler the shape, the more likely you can do it. I don't know what what you're making so it's hard to answer your question directly.
this is the same type of mouth rigging people actually use for 3D models. nice to see this method works in moho as well.
Sometimes it is yes. It can also be formed into the head itself so when the mouth is open it deforms the face and gives proper depth and lighting. It depends on what type of rig you're making.
😅😅😅 I like it
Your tutorial may seem simple, but it actually helped me a lot more than other videos I have seen so far. Especially with the "bind points to eye anchor" in addition to the smart bone actions to make everything move in coherence to a head bone while also maintining the ability to move separately as well. Thank you so much!
You're welcome! I'm glad to hear that it was helpful and easy to follow. Good luck on your journey into animation!
For some reason in between my mouths on the dial I am getting a brief transition to another mouth that I didnt keyframe. For example on Dial Notch 1, it will be an "E" mouth. Then in between 1 and 2, there will be a "O" mouth, and then at 2, there's an "F/V" mouth. Do you have any idea why this might be happening?
Nevermind! I think I see what I did wrong. I made the bone a "smart bone dial" instead of clicking the new action button as you did. I went back and redid it and it works fine now. Gonna leave this up in case someone else makes the same mistake as I did.
@@MylesHiArt It's an easy mistake. You can more easily avoid it if you switch your animation in the time line from smooth to step when animating dials. This will make your animations/bones jump to their next position instead of easing into it.
thank you for that tip! @@DevinKrauss
Ive played with the 3d features that i posted on my behind the scene channel some years back. Im going to start back experimenting with again to speed up production.
you didn't say how you rotated the selection when making the lines for the clock? I cant figure out what you did there
Sorry, it's been a while since I made this. Can you post the time stamp so I can see what you mean?
I think I figured out what you were asking. If you're talking about the switch dial for the second mouth, I used a vector layer. Drew the first two lines, copy and pasted, then the box that forms around it that allows you stretch or shrink your layers. Hold shift, grab the outer edges that aren't a circle and rotate.
thank you. And how to attach material or pattern to them?
Use masking or the effects tool and choose image texture.
初めまして、とても参考になります‼中々Mohoの日本語でのチュートリアルないので残念
Thank you! I believe MoeU33 is a Japanese Moho user. Here's her channel www.youtube.com/@MoeU33Hailey Good luck on your animation journey.
4:55 The reason this happened is because in Moho, bone children coordinates are relative to the their parents. Since the Pin bone was parented to the Anchor, the position of (0, 0) will be located where the Anchor is. It was only when the Anchor was deleted, the position (0, 0) became the center of the document.
Ah, thanks for telling me that. That makes so much sense.
You should learn that the top teeth in a head do not move. They are part of the solid skull, they should always be in the exact same place compared to the eyes and nose.
That is correct, but in cartoons there is a lot of squash and stretch. So in some cases where expressions are exaggerated the top teeth would sometimes need to move. But thanks for pointing it out. Some of my switch layer mouths do still suffer from that over sight.
this is great lol😂
Thanks! I thought so too.
Nicee😂
Thank you!
Please make a video explaining step by step the rigging method you used in the video
It's a method called pin bones invented by mou33, best explained by Poptoogi. Here's a link to his tutorial to help you out: th-cam.com/video/DIOHDbOv8h4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-ErailvPvksgC486
1 hour long to make a mouth ?
It's not just one mouth, the video shows how to make three different types of mouths that are commonly used in animation. The first is the most common used called a switch layer. The second one is a smart bone morph layer. The third one is one of my own design using pin bones to manipulate the mouth into the desired shape. The easiest one to make and animate is the switch layer.
I think Moho 14 become more 3D. Like blender.
That actually might be true based on a conversation I had with the lost marble support team. Moho 13 had a few 3D features removed due to crashes and bugs when it upgraded to 13.5, and according to what they said there is no plan to add it back into 13.5 at this time. So it's likely that we'll see it added in 14.
Thanks for the tips!
great.. need more work on movies more than one hour each (one published video)
I'm sorry but I don't understand what you mean. Are you saying my videos are too long, and I don't make enough original content or animations?

Hey can u make full process of animation short film I want to see full process and compositing thank u
I can, but it probably won't be ready for a month or two. If you want some advice and/or help from someone now Toniko Pantoja (channel: th-cam.com/users/TonikoPantoja) is an animator that has been in the industry for more than 10 years. He also has a few videos about short films and the process of making them.
Nice explanation! Sadly they removed the advanced 3d options which were added in 13.0 by smithmicro.. . Hopefully we get them back in Moho 14.
Yeah, I've actually asked the Lost Marble team if they're going to add the advanced 3D tools back in 14 but as of last month (when I asked) there's currently no plans to do so. Hopefully that changes though. Everything I made in this tutorial was made after the advanced tools were removed, so all this is still possible.
@@DevinKraussthey also removed the bitmap tool as well, and is still removed?
@@Rover259Wild As far as I'm aware there has never been a bit map tool in the official moho software release, but there are scripts you can get from mohoscripting.com/ to add in features like bitmap. Moho is open source so anyone can make add ons for it and there is a large community that makes these scripts and releases them for everyone who wants them. If you're familiar with Lua that's what Moho is made with.
@@DevinKrauss okay thanks. Have you made bitmaps puppets in Moho before?
@@Rover259Wild No I haven't. Sorry.
good!!!thanks!!😀😀😀
What programm do you use?
I think its adobe after effects, I know you can do this in that program
@@aydenjacko thank you
I use Moho 13.5, made by Lost Marble. It's not an Adobe program but it is compatible with their stuff.
@@aydenjacko good guess but I actually use Moho 13.5, not Adobe After Effects.
@@DevinKrauss thank you ^^
just some constructive critisism from one animator to another. Considering the tone of the video and content, the loud upbeat music sort ofdrowns the message and makes it hard to litsen to your narration. Great work however, love the concept
Thanks for the advice, I noticed it now that you pointed it out when I went beck and listed. I was in a hurry when making this one and eyeballed the volumes on the two audio tracks. That was clearly a mistake. Thanks again for the constructive criticism.

How to make Doraemon time portal animation
I don't think Moho is the best animation program to try and make it in, but the best way I can think of to try and make it would me to use the 3D tool to make tub and use it as a guide to make the background appear to move like a vortex animation. If your computer can handle Blender rendering I'd recommend animating the vortex in that then rendering it a .mp4, then import the video into Moho for animating characters and objects you've made for it. The Blender community here on TH-cam has a ton of tutorials that can help you, even if you've never used Blender before. Just look up "Blender vortex tutorial" or "Blender time vortex tutorial" and find one that looks like the one you want to make. I hope this helps to answers your question.
Just a follow up to my previous comment, you could use the Moho particle tool to make the basic background for the time vortex but the clocks would have to be drawn in. Also you'd need a minimum of about 250 to 500 particle to render per frame to achieve the effect I got and unless you have a gaming PC this can take somewhere between 8 to 10 hours to render.
Thanks for replying Can you give me another way to connect you
TH-cam comments are a guarantee response for me but I also have a reddit account that I try to check daily. Link: www.reddit.com/user/Devin_Krauss My series AAITM has a page that I made also so that's a way to post your ideas/animations so I can get a better idea to what you're asking. Link: www.reddit.com/r/AnAnimatorInTheMaking/ I also have twitter and facebook but I check those about once a week, but if I'm in an active conversation I'd check it until the conversation was over. Even if it spanned over several days. Twitter: twitter.com/KraussDevin Facebook: facebook.com/Destruction-Kreation-109113918362679/?ref=page_internal I'm trying to check these more often.
This is literally my niece’s favorite VeggieTales episode.
LB&TRW is definitely in my top 10 of favorite Veggie Tales episodes. Even to this day Larry Boy is still my favorite thing that Big Idea ever made.
In past versions of moho, I mean from Anime studio to Moho 12.5 are able to import full 3D animated escenes made in the 3D software poser that is from smith micro too, from 13.5 Lost Marble bring back moho to it roots, so the poser functions don't work anymore, I tried my 3D rigged and animated characters in Blender, so I export it as fbx, import those in poser, save as a poser file, and then import it to moho, is not perfect most of the time I have issues with the position and the camera, but for some things is very useful.. I still doing my experiments to this days..
That's something I didn't know, thanks for the info. I've been trying out Moho's different features each month to try and familiarize myself with the software. I plan to revisit 3D soon but for this month I'm trying to learn how to use Vitruvian bones and pin bones. If you're knowledgeable on how to use Moho and Blender together I know I and a lot of my viewers would watch that tutorial. Maybe tutorials aren't your thing but if you do make it please let know.
@@DevinKrauss I have a potato pc.. that's mean that I got to tried different things than traditional tecniques, Blender cant render a proper escene, so I found that moho does it really good, but I have to discard real time lights and shadows and other things, is really painfully yes I admit, but I refuse to give up..
@@Raven5790 Ah, I see. Even still I checked out your last 3 videos and thought they look good (my favorite was the Shingeki No Kyojin Tribute (Fan Animation)), and if this is what you can make with a potato PC imagine what you'll one day make when you get a good computer. I hope you keep at it and I can't wait to see what else you make.
