2:51 did you buy that canvas piece or is that all custom made? I’d like to make one or purchase if you can let me know which way to go!?
Looks like you have one of the campers that was built during covid they had to change suppliers for the canvas and they leaked and did not line up properly should have been rectified under warranty we have opus owners here in Australia where the whole canvas was replaced under warranty due to the same issues you have
Hey! We were next door in Murdock Basin around the lakes that same day and a touch later. Had to hightail it out once we noticed the smoke. Thankfully, it didn't spread to Murdock, but still really rough how much burned...
When you stop in a god forsaken place like Ticaboo you might want to ask for directions and road conditions!
What’s with the dryer sheets? Does it really keeps bugs away?
Ah yeah. It apparently works for keeping the rodents away. Not sure if it does. The island is notorious for mice and sociable raccoons.
Fantastic video!
@anselanderson2771 Yeah, our videos have come a long way since then! Thanks for checking us out!
Super clean! Now they need to do this from the factory…
I agree!!
So glad i found this. I thought the lite was an attractive option. Thanks for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!
Beautiful views. Watched when I was already sleepy and Music and serenity of views put me at out 14:20. Resumed watching this morning Visual lullaby. Darker sunglasses Mia. Buy her a hat Mio.
Thanks! Yeah this one was a little slower. We had a lot of footage, but with my below average skills, I managed to wreck the last days worth of shots. Managed to get the ISO up 28000 or something ridiculous. I think she has some golfing visors we can dig out of a tote..
Another great installment. I'm somewhat surprised by how many people you encountered - I guess that reinforces my preferences for hitting the western mountain areas in Spring and Fall, however it is starting to get that way all the time 😢. Quick question; at one point you mentioned airing up/airing down... what set-up do you use for that?
Hey Thanks! This was just before hunting season out there so people were out doing some glassing and getting their camps ready. Lesson learned. I think the sweet spot is mid-June for that area. Right after the snow melts and before city folk get the itch. We are running the Viair 400P with a hodgepodge of stuff from NAPA. It works. It gets hot AF and we really should have something a little more robust for 33s and a trailer. Looking at the ARB Twin Motor with a tank but that's a 1k solution for something that's not really a problem right now. We just use the screw on brass deflators that you can set to a certain psi.
PS: the music in the background at about 9:55 ; wasn't sure whether you added that aftwerward or it was playing in the background in camp, but be careful iif you're playing copywrited music. The TH-cam police can block your channel if you're playing copywrited music.
Yeah, It was music in the background at camp. YT has 'checks' before a video goes public and we've had one get a copyright warning and we just edited it and re-uploaded it. So, when if it doesn't trigger the filter, I guess its safe? But for real, I think nearly all of our videos have an Arctic Monkey's song playing in the background at some point. ;)
Hi There! Another great vid as always. Etiquette on the road: the horse and rider have the right-of-way, but they also are supposed to clear off and let you pass when safe to do so. As far as the etiquette with the ATV/side-side: they have none whatsoever. Its like they don't believe any rules apply to them because they're not driving a street-legal vehicle.
The horse rider moved to the side and gathered his dogs at the top of the hill. We just didn't know how far to follow, you know, cuz horses are unpredictable. As far as the SxS and ATV's - The younger the rider, the more respect and trail etiquette they have. Probably because of the instruction and tests they have to take. Makes us think everyone should have to go through a course to drive one! Again, thanks for watching!
No étiquette? What did the rider have to say? Crossroads. Stay safe.
Morning 👍
As @CDNJEEPOVERLAND noted, your content is so much more than an ad for MO Summit. I do like to refer to your channel for ways to "tweak" my Summit's setup, etc, but mostly I watch your channel because you make great vids! That campsite at 6:03 was epic, but I'd be worried about wandering around in the dark under the influence of adult beverages..... It truly is a blessing that you dodged the fire, too! Please keep putting out the great vids, and maybe we can meet up along the road somewhere.
We appreciate the feedback! Don't worry, Lissa kept me from getting too close to the edge after dark. That fire weighed heavy on us for a few days. We may have driven right into it had we stayed another night. It's such a beautiful area, too bad one mans decision can create such a loss. Propane fire pits - safe, cheaper overall, takes up less space and you don't have to worry about where the wood comes from. Thanks again, we will see you out there!
I have to assume your channel is eventually going to blowup (in a good way), so I thought I’d leave a comment when your subs are still in the 200’s. I was initially looking for independent MO Summit reviews that don’t play like an ad, but stayed for your sense of humor and entertaining adventures. Keep on keepin’ on! Oh, and no Summit for me… yet 😂
@cdnjeepoverland Hey thanks! We started this channel just to show our friends and family what we were up to... and gripe about that Opus Lite. I don't think it will blow up anytime soon as we don't have enough epic music, caves, abandoned cabins or recoveries. It would be cool to do this for a living but like anything, doing it all the time would take the romance out of it, you know? We're just happy to have a few people enjoy it! Good luck on your search for a trailer!
@@thistediouspath appreciate the reply - can you think of any reason I shouldn’t buy a Summit? I’m in the market for a slightly used unit - of course there’s the potential for leaks with the canvas, but I really like the ability to stand and even convert the bed to a table vs the usual teardrop or crawl in type of off grid trailers. Oh, and as far as video content, I don’t need any drama thanks very much… just great scenery and everyday life on the road.
@cdnjeepoverland I hear ya, we like predictability and having a plan. If our videos are boring to the masses, they can always click over to the bigger channels. I see a 2022 Summit on RvTrader right now for 22k. Not sure where it is and I'm guessing you're in Canada so that might be a hurdle. I don't have any complaints about our Summit itself. The Truma Combi hot water/heater can be finicky but that's not Missions fault. We have had zero problems with the canvas leaking or anything. That reminds me, we should probably reseal it. Other than minor dust ingress in a few spots, we have no deal breaker problems. I'll say yes, they are pricy, but as always you get what you pay for. Stay tuned, working on another video as I type this!
Nice job always enjoyable. Some casual Kayak territory.
Yeah, that thought crossed my mind, too. Wasn't busy out on the reservoir at all.
Such a beautiful area at any time of year - but when the aspens are in full display it is trly favulous, I'm curious how your tow vehicle is holding? I first towed my Summit with a Jeep Gladiator, but I found that the trailer was making my Jeep work too hard on the highway transits.
Gas or diesel? Rubicon on 4.10s? Did you re-gear? Sell the trailer or upgrade your tow vehicle? I’m seeing lots of Gladiator-pulled Summits on the interweb! Curious as I upgraded to 5.13s and am in the market for a Summit as we speak.
It's 'fair' at best? I can run 80 on the freeway with the trailer loaded. It's a 4runner so using the cruise and gas mileage are out. Maybe 9.5 mpg in 4th gear 90% of the time. On the trail it's fine, I found my self in 1st gear in 4HI quite a few times on the longer ascents at higher altitude but that's to be expected. Thanks for checking us out. More to come!
@@cdnjeepoverlandI was pulling mine with a 2021 Gladiator WILLYS, 3.6L GAS, re-geared to 4.88s. The JT pulled my Summit fine if I kept it below 70, but on the long mountain passes in Colorado where you're pulling a steep grade for a lot of miles, it would still manage it but it drank a lot of gas - 11 MPG and lower was the norm, and just 23 gal in the tank. Even with that said, if I lived closer to the mountains I would have kept my Gladiator. However with a Minimum 900 miles on the interstate before I ever reach the mountains the Jeep can be loud and a bit rough. No knock on the Jeep because I'm also almost 65 and my behind would get a little sore after the long days behind the wheel. I LOVE LOVE my Saummit and can't see me trading for anything else. But I switched my tow vehicle to F150 4x4 with 5.0L engine and 36 Gal tank. Yes, I sacrificed the Jeep's clearance and agility off the pavement, but the pickup will go "most" of the places that I'd take my trailer, so I'm okay with the trade-off.
Thanks man for that fantastic video! As it is not a very often seen trailer, it is difficult to find real tests. But it´s not the first time that I read comments like "it seems that the manufacturer never travel with this"...and it fits to your video...Sad to see because I really love the idea of the OPUS and from the first view it looks so cool....and it costs as much as a big caravan. Sorry that you made that experience but thanks for sharing. Anyway, I hope you can enjoy the holidays somehow.
What a couple,,,,,,, sour,,unsmiling,,gripey,,bitching, moaning people. These people dont even make me want to LOOK at this thing
It seems some of the issues you mentioned are not issues on their higher end models but something to definitely look at. The leaking is a big concern. It sounds like you do some serious offroad, im looking for something more for light offroad and sticking around for a few days. Sounds like a patriot camper or something similar would fit your style better. Thanks for the honest review. Did you find something that suits you?
@Jacob-rn From what I've read, the initial run of the Opus line was great. It was then outsourced to China and they slapped them together leaving the dealerships to fix many of the problems. Especially the water and dust ingress along all the seals while closed. We traded the Opus Lite in for a Mission Overland Summit before we even got home from that trip. Realizing we were going places levels above what the Lite was built to handle, it was an easy choice. If you take look at our channel, you can see the Summit in action - its streets ahead of the feeble Opus Lite. Pricy for some, sure, but its Canadian made, backed by a decent warranty and built for the hard shit.
@thistediouspath thank you for the heads up. I'm sorry for not checking your channel first. I will definitely check out some of your videos on the mission. It looks like a good option.
Hey. Great job on your videos. I have a 4Runner also and I’m looking at purchasing a Mission. Just recently had my truck geared to 4.56. How has it been towing the Mission on your trips?
@erickweinzapfel196 TL/DR - Good. Your gearing will improve the experience. On the trails its was great; tracks well, suspension handled what the stock 4Runner TRD Pro on 33s can handle and the breaks worked as intended. We ran 6 or 7 mountain ranges throughout Utah and it got a little doggy on some of the ascents. Felt good going down - we have a RedArk in dash break controller, ran it on proportional mode the whole time. We had it loaded up for a 3 week trip. 30 some gallons of water, two 5 gal Jerry cans, 40lb of propane, food, too much beer, etc. It comes in at 2450lb dry. It had to be closer to 3000. So it's below the 80% rule. I did weigh it, but I don't have the numbers... It actually felt better (balanced) when fully loaded. Using manual and dropping it down to 2 or 3 is obviously mandatory but we had to go down to 4Lo a hand full of times on the trails. It got a little worse at higher elevations, like +9000ft. Plus we were using 85 fuel. Lesson learned, there. One of the draw backs of getting fuel out in the middle of nowhere repeatedly. The Summit has a bounce to it when empty. In fact, we ran the 1300mi back home with it loaded, less the fuel in the Jerrys. Its a brick pulling a brick. So the MPGs were in the 10.5 range, loaded and empty. Odd, I know. Forget about using the cruise control. It feels good back there on the freeway though, no sway or crazy sh!t when breaking hard. I can only compare it to a Jetski at 800lbs, which was nothing lol and an Opus Lite camper we had last year coming it at 2380lb. The Lite had a low profile and smaller tires so gas mileage was better but the trailer was worse in every other conceivable way. Any more questions, let me know and I'll try to help. Good luck on your search and thanks for watching!
Just Be Quiet and Drive, Far Away
How much did you buy it for
Roughly 40k from a dealership back in mid 2023. Pricey, I know, but you get what you pay for.
I replaced my Viar fill with the ARB digital, very nice upgrade.
Hi, can you tell me which paper towel holder you have . I keep gojng theough amazon but not having luck
Yep. I’m looking for one as well
@heatherhikes6880 Expedition Essentials Quick Paper Towel Holder
AWESOME camp at 7:25 in. Wow!! and the drone shots are just stunning.
Thanks! We had a great time out there! Little hot but we just had to get up there before they shut the trails down. They are working on closing the San Rafael Swell and soon the Book Cliffs area. That spot is right between those two so, yeah, had to get out there one last time.
Nice views! You should try going under your rig with the drone. I like the view transition with the cymbal hit. Good job.
Yeah, did you recognize any of the music?
Yes
That’s funny you mention Chino, when I first came across you guys I immediately thought you looked like a young version of him. Always enjoy your videos, thanks
Ahh, thanks man. Yeah, I used to get that a lot. It's good to know I still look that young as we are close to his age lol. We're glad you enjoyed our videos, and thanks for giving us your time and attention. We aren't payed to do this or have sponsors or a big audience. Stoked you care to leave a comment and got the Deftones reference! 🤘 .
This tedious path I'm new on your channel
Welcome, Dave. Enjoy your stay!
Rooftop view!
Lol 😂. Really appreciate the video. We have a Taxa Cricket Overland and was considering switching to the OP2 because the Cricket won't fit in the garage. Considering something else now. Thanks.
@dispersedbound Not sure of your price range but take a look at the Mission Overland Summit. It will fit in your garage and is built in Canada, tough as nails. Well, aluminum nails.. th-cam.com/video/yW4cw4pTl-w/w-d-xo.html We have other videos on the site of the Summit in action. Check it out.
PS the drone shots were NOT crap.
The Wasatch is one of the most under-appreciated regions in the country, but those mosquitos are brutal!! After a bad experience with the skeeters on the Grand Mesa in Colorado an absolue indispensable part of our gear is bug repellant for ourselves, and we usually have one of those Fxxx Mosquitos coils burning around camp. Great Video as usual!!
@dalekarraker6851 The Wasatch Plateau is undeniably under rated. We did less than 1% of the area but with the southern part of the Skyline closed its hard to connect the trails. Anything over 9500 feet still had snow drifts on north facing slopes. We are considering making a trip up there in mid October linking it with the Uinta mountain range. I think seeing the trees change would be epic. We run with a couple Thermacell mosquito repeller's and one electric Thermacell that works at high elevation. And of course classic Deep Woods Off. (As much Deet as the EPA allows) Hate to put the bug spray on - but sometimes its necessary.. The mosquitoes we encountered in the first part of the video we desperate, they didn't care what we brought. And thanks for watching our videos, we appreciate your insight and feedback. Got a couple more coming then I'll be taking a break from editing.
Before anyone gets too excited, I know the drone shots were crap. 🍺
Great vids again. I should really plan something like this lol
Do it. It might cost a lot and take a lot of time to plan but you'll kick yourself if you don't.
Can you tell me where you got the faucet from. The OEM one is total garbage since it starts with hot at low flow before it mixes cold in.
"Foldable RV Faucet Universal for Car Caravan RV 360° Rotation Cold & Hot Water Mixer Water Tap" on Amazon. Its the one with the handle on top.
@@thistediouspath found it, but of course it's banned in CA. Thank you anyway, I will find it through another source
@DaddyBusAdventures Aww man! :( Remember to find one that has the handle on top. The faucets with the dial type handle on the side will be just like the one that came with the trailer.
@@thistediouspath Funny enough I found the same faucet at Walmart - handle on top. All good, thank you
Great video & thank you for sharing your experiences while there. I live in SE Wisconsin & will have to check out Tigerton OHV Park with my pop-up truck camper & UTV sometime.
Thank you for this. I'm currently researching something to tow with my Subaru Outback
Glad we could help. Good luck with the search!
Nice vid - again. Its amazing the temperature/weather swings you get at those elevations. Quick question: do y'all have any a/c system for when you're in those high temp areas? I have a Zero breeze that helps take the edge off at night when I'm drier regions like Utah/Colorado, but near home in Texas with the higher humidity the Zero Breeze hardly makes a difference. I'm thinking about a dometic roof top 12v but theyre gawd-awful expensive~
Thanks again. Yeah we have a Black and Decker portable AC unit for when we have shore power. Nothing for boondocking. I know that Mission Overland is offering a rooftop ac unit. Brad Koester on YT has a video about adding one to his trailer. We try to go to places that are temperate and stay out of the heat. Though we did end up staying down in the desert in an upcoming video. We just stayed up a bit later and got up with the sun.
6 ft snow bank... big enough for sledding. I'd put a poncho on and sat out in that sleet. Nice vid Thanks.
Tigerton has some great camping spots. I hope you guys got to see the falls and some of the other trails. A stock-ish 4Runner can do quite a few with a good spotter depending on the trail conditions.
Yeah, we just took it easy on the trails when we camped and filmed this. We went in 2020 and did everything they had to offer. Some of it was definitely difficult. Bonus - our cabin is like 20 minutes away from there!
A Great video, once again. Chicken helper is fine with me - when I'm tired I like quick and easy. Glad to see you putting your Summit through the trails - which sometimes don't work out, but that's part of the adventure!
Thanks! Yeah we learned our lesson awhile ago about making time consuming extravagant meals. We were trying to save water too so doing 10 dishes was a problem.
@@thistediouspath Hey here's a tip we learned over many years of dry camping: Buy several sets of the higher end STRONG paper plates. As you consume them you scrape them off with dirt from the trail and haul them out with your trash or burn them. Less cleanup time and saves water. As an option, you can use your regular plastic or tin camp plates for the strength, and put the paper plates on top of them as a "liner". Then just burn the paper plates. The other thing we do is have one "all purpose" pan and one skillet to reduce weight and space, and you also gain some cleanup time.
Thanks for the feedback! We stopped using paper plates when we switched to a propane fire pit and got our first trailer with a sink. We got some Sea to Summit plastic camping plates. Only thing there was they make everything taste like dish soap no matter how much you rinse. Now we are on some Barebones enamel plates and bowls. They work great but are loud af. Like, the utensil scrapping is akin to nails on a chalk board. At the same time we also started just eating out of the pan like a couple Neanderthals. Seriously, most breakfasts are ate straight out of the pan.
That snow looked like my driveway last winter. What kind of dog was it?
The camera does it no justice. It was like a 15% grade down hill with switchbacks every quarter mile for about a mile and a half with a 300+ foot cliff on the left. Besides dying, we didn't want to wreck the trail, lol
Great video, subscribed! We first visited THSMSJPSP in 2013 and spent 2 nights in the backcountry wilderness kayak camping at 2 of primitive campsites. Weve been waiting on it reopen and we’re heading back in October for a 4 night kayak camping trip (video to follow) and can’t wait to get out there. When the bay is calm, it’s as though you’re in the Caribbean and some of the most beautiful water in FL.
Awesome, thanks! We kayaked up the bay side the first year we went up there and planned to come back and camp up in the wilds but - you know. So by the time we got back up there, the kayaks were no longer a thing for us.. Have a great time up there and we look forward to your video! Subbed.
An area I have never been to and that I will definitely be checking out on my next Utah trip. Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks for checking us out!
Yo I met you in Ocala last Feb you just popped up on my youtube. Sick video bro 🤙🏼 love it
@McShibby10 Thanks man! Yeah We met quite a few people that week up in the Ocala Nat Forest. Everyone was super cool. We made a video while we were out there, it's on the channel, check it out.
Another excellent video! I keep telling myself that I should get a drone but then I talk myself out of it. I first gravitated to your channel because I was looking for other Summit owners, but i find I really enjoy your content. Keep 'em coming!
Hey thanks! I'd suggest looking at the DJI used market - to relieve some of the pain of buying a thousand dollar drone you'll use like 4 times a year. We use a DJI Mini 3 Pro and these trips to Nat Forest or BLM land are usually the only time we use it now. State parks, beaches, campgrounds and similar places have pretty much banned them. I understand why but it's still a bummer.
