How to Elevate Team Performance by Setting & Enforcing Standards
A true leader does the hard things first to make it easier for others to follow. Today, one of the hardest things we must do is influence other people’s behavior, and manage our own, to achieve better results at work. This becomes far easier when people in leadership positions act like leaders by setting, modeling, and enforcing standards of conduct.
In this video, I share a powerful approach to elevate team performance. Whether you're leading a team that struggles with unproductive behavior, or one that just needs some extra support to reach their potential, these steps will help your team reach their potential.
In this video, I share how clear standards and consistent enforcement can lead to real behavioral change. You’ll discover practical methods to set boundaries, model behavior, and enforce expectations to empower your team to perform at a higher standard..
What You’ll Learn:
➡️ Set Clear Standards - Define expectations that everyone can get behind.
➡️ Lead by Example - Show your team what living a higher standard looks like.
➡️ Address Issues Directly - Address unacceptable conduct in a non-confrontation way.
Plus, I’ll share a simple checklist to keep you on track.
Building a culture of accountability doesn’t have to be complicated, but it does require intention and consistency. If you’re committed to elevating your leadership and empowering others, don’t miss this essential video.
If you’re ready to elevate your leadership and empower your team, hit subscribe and stay tuned for more insights to help you drive excellence.

Leaders take the blame even when it’s not their fault. I accept blame for things I didn’t do. Because it’s my responsibility either way. I see blame as an opportunity to solve a problem.

This can work in some cases but their are many examples were you simply can't do your job until the other person does theirs. One example I can't deploy my fix to production without review and sign off from x.

As a leader, I believe it's crucial to focus on solutions rather than assigning blame. When challenges arise, I prioritize open dialogue and collaboration to ensure we learn and grow from the situation. It's about creating an environment where progress is the priority. I’d love to hear how you’ve navigated this in your own leadership experiences.

You know, I like your definitions as written, but your examples, your analogies do not do justice to them. The worker who was highly responsible but balked when held accountable, for instance - it's not that simple. Was her understanding of the expected results ever established? Was she ever explicitly told the results were dependent on her? Perhaps the tasks themselves were insufficient. You See, too many questions arise. Like your stuff - NEED your stuff - but please work to make the examples less problematic.

Then what is accountability if you don't ever get blamed when you make a mistake? People should be encouraged to take initiative and try new things, it doesn't mean that they shouldn't be held accountable for the consequences when they make a mistake. This is what accountability is. It's accepting to be blamed when we make a mistake. Possibly not be given your bonus. Possibly be fired. Possibly be sent to prison.

So if I understand this correctly, blame is just basically the expectation of holding others accountable instead of ourselves. Is it unreasonable to expect that others need to be accountable for their actions? Where’s the balance here? I’ve been struggling with blame lately and I’m trying to find some clarity.
