What's the difference between the mind and the brain? And is there more than one philosophical view on that in psychology, philosophy, and religion?

Self-compassion is the antidote to self-criticism. Our inner self-talk defines us so much. Thank you for this important information.

This video is absolutely amazing!! So insightful and helpful to break down the complexities of chronic self criticism, it's consequences on mental health and emotional well being, and how self compassion plays a key role in turning low the inner critic!! Such a clear, logical and intriguing explanation ❤

I was recc. to Paul Gilbert's work by a mental health professional. It is certainly grabbing my attention right now. This talk is a good overview of the brain/mind and why we are wired towards the difficult emotions to dominate.th-cam.com/video/pz9Fr_v9Okw/w-d-xo.html

I have been using compassion based therapy personally and professionally for a number of years now. l think Paul Gilbert's work in this field and others like Kristen Neff is so valuable. I have found self compassion very useful in helping alleviate self criticism, low self worth and shame. I think that sometimes we over complicate things and so we don't see how self soothing is integral to deeper self awareness.

Wow. 5 Years and no comments? This stuff is groundbreaking. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, it uses existing knowledge, Buddhist teachings, evolutionary psychology to combine into an awesome way to look at people who struggle with anger or other powerful negative emotions. Please look into Compassion Focused Therapy and the compassionate mind. The practice is useful in clinical settings and for personal enrichment alike.

Intuitively and experientially all true. It's the purpose of pets and "God" - the surrogate all relational, at which humans don't do well. You say we are getting better at it. Do we see it in the hysterically competitive social and occupational worlds? Do we see it in the ever widening circles of relationship breakdown and impoverished or non-existent family life? For all the connectedness, we also need a huge dollop of hope.

Hi Drako, I would just get into this state where every thought I had was negative. It just becomes this vicious circle of automatic negative thoughts taking over. What you got to do is catch your negative thoughts in the act. I used to have this recurring thought "I will be alone for the rest of my life." I caught the negative thought and said to myself; Self, how is it that I will be alone for the rest of my life because one girl rejected me? Catch the thoughts and challenge them! Good luck!
