How to make a paper model in Blender
มุมมอง 52K5 ปีที่แล้ว
In this tutorial you will learn how to convert a 3D model within Blender into a paper printout which you can cut out and paste together to make a paper model. Link to the files: drive.google.com/open?id=18lxD64eW0I2jQYFEl1BlGG6Kwz6ZJ3ih
Does having a imported STL model effect how it’s exported
Thank for the tutorial.
There is also software that is used for making paper models named pepakura.
Great ! Thanks :)
Great tutorial. Thanks!
good job thanks for the tutorial
Excellent, clear and to the point. Thanks from Colorado.
How do you print out the paper mask the same size as your face? Hope you reply
Can create a 3d hand like🤲🏻
Thanks for saving me a fortune on my low-poly Crash cosplay. ;)
I will use it for this halloween (and the one in 2023) so THANKS FOR THIS TUTORIAL ❤💗
thank you
Oh, Davie504😁 by the way, thank you for tutorial👍
where do you print
Life saver. Great video!!!
Dude, i have been looking for ages for this kind of solution!!!! I only checked the tut briefly but be sure to hear from me!!!! U r brilliant!!! U got an instant subscriber from poland!!!! PS down side is, u are gonna have me bothering u with tons of questions lol. Thank you!!!
Could you do the reverse of this? Use a pepakura file then run that into a 3d model?
Wonderful tutorial! Thanks. Very clear directions, appropriate pace, useful information. As someone else said, it might not be as easy as Pepakura, but it is free. I hope to try it one of these days.
is there a way to do it with textures?
You can include in the model a "ruler" representing the height of the mask. When you scale all the figures proportionally in a vector program, you will be able to know the general measurement of the ruler and know if the patterns have been scaled to the desired measurement. This way you can make paper models of various sizes with little margin for error.
Yep. You can also take a photo of your head next to a ruler or something of known size. Drag and drop the photo into Blender, and scale it to that size for a reference.
funny
Thank you for sharing this tutorial. At the end of this movie, White paper is pasted blue one, isnt it ? Blue one is thicker ?
Yes!! I wanted to flat-pack a cover for my bike and put into DXP for my 2d Drafting CAD (DeltaCAD) so I could make a big sewing pattern. I did this the hard way, by measureing every line last time I made a custom cover for my kit car (3d scanned into Blender using 3DS Zepher). It took two days to measure and draw every line! So to do that quickly, you use your 'create paper model' to export in SVG format instead, then import it back into Blender, convert it to a mesh and export it back out again as a DXF (another add-on) which would work for those who have those niffty paper-cutter plotter printers too. You loose scale, but that isn't hard to recalculate. Thank you for taking the time to make this tutorial!
I loved the tutorial, just what i was looking for, i am making a warhammer 40k harlequin map and am planing to make huge chess piesees for them to jump on!
May I know which version of blender in the video?
V2.80.75
you are an absolute legend!!!!!!! you explained everything i needed and made it so simple!! Thankyou!
Aaah thanks! Always happy to hear it helped someone!
I like your videos, dude! Please keep going!
hii
I'm making a messechmit me 262 jet and it was really hard to get a paper plan out of it. after seeing this I easily got a 44 page plan pdf. im currently making a rc version of it so a huge thanks and a sub to this channel.
That's amazing! I'm so glad to hear this!
hows the build going along?
Crashed it.😢
@@thanuheenatigala4057 oh, any possibility you could upload the plans?
I can upload the model.
nis
Brilliant! Thank you so much!
Is it possible to do this with metal? It would need some thickness adding to it. Around 1.5mm
Sure, if your printer handles 1.5mm sheet metal. Good luck folding and gluing it.
Awesome!!!
I can't see the paper model option (Blender 2.91) could you help me?
I tried to figure out what your problem might be. Try unchecking the "Enabled Add-ons Only" checkbox as well as choosing the "Community". All these options are in the "Preferences" -> "Add-ons" window.
This was fascinating. And I like the music too.
This is absolutely awesome! Just what I was looking for and I cannot believe it's a Blender plugin too! :)
Great to hear!
@@netherlabgames7511 I have a question... I was playing with blender building a little house now, but today, when i export my file as a paper model , the pdf only has filled in lines and no longer shows the doted lines with the folder marks. When i first followed your tutorial i got the dotted lines pdf but today i only get a filled in line output and no dotted lines anymore... am i forgetting something ?...
@@icreateworlds I wish I knew what caused this but unfortunately (or fortunately) I have never had this problem so I don't know what could be causing it :(
@@netherlabgames7511 it´s really weird. I´ve just played wit the configurations right now but nothing happens even if change the options from "dots" to "dot-dash" or "lines" , the plugin just does what he wants and right now he wants to only output in filled in lines. Ive uninstalled it, installed it back in but somehow it still happens. The weird thing is that yesterday everything was just fine. The first i tried it, it workd perfectly and now even my original model does not print with dots and line. Im going insane trying to find out why. :)
cool dude
Do you have design the mask or can you copy it from some where?
Do you have to*
Follow the link in the description if you want a copy of the mask
Everything he said was right EXCEPT the dots...... dots are inwards ( valley ) and dot dash are outward ( mountain ) BECAUSE markings should be on the inside where they are not seen and the BLUE color of his mask should be on the outside... obviously
This is true, well spotted!
@@netherlabgames7511 :) awesome tutorial!
Nice tutorial... Thanks for taking time to make this.
Glad it could help!
This is great! Thanks for the help!
how can I manually move the islands around on paper ? There are lots of white blanks that could fit more islands on paper
Thank you for your video. I have a task in university to do the same thing. Your video covered all my questions)
That's awesome dude, glad to hear it!
i like the music. it reminds me of plants vs zombies.
Haha you're right, that must've been in my unconscious
what to do when twisted polygon error appear?
8:49 triangulate and apply the modifier
Wow thats super cool!
I really would love for this to be more efficient like Pepakura, but I think it has a way to go. The back and forth between saving a pdf, opening a pdf to check your work and back to blender to make changes and re save seems so tedious and so easy to change.
Great point!
Hello there Im a beginner at blender and i was testing this papercraft addon, but when i want to export it, this message shows up: Invalid Input Error The model contains: 9 twisted polygon(s) The offenders are selected an you can youse Triangulate to fix them. Export failed. I used the Triangulate modiffier but i dont have rly a plan, what i should change...
After you added the triangulate modifier, did you apply it?
Very nice dude, Love the sincerity
Thanks, I appreciate it :)
Exactly what I was thinking about right around the time u made this video, though I was thinking HUGE, like dividing higher poly models so they can be assembled from A1 fitting cutouts, which requires a more sophisticated add-on, I guess, to be done automatically. Miraculous if it hasn't been done already.
