Zsela: "Big for You" Album Review
Zsela is back once again releasing a new album titled "Big for You" which is a recent project with collaborator Daniel Aged who also helped produce her 2020 EP "Ache of Victory". I do a deep-dive journey on how she is related to Tessa Thompson, a legend in the music industry, and her connections to fashion and other artists such as Caroline Polacheck, Dev Hynes (Blood Orange) and other New York legends. She's also received notable write-ups from Dazed, Associated Press, Interview Magazine, and a review on Pitchfork as well.
She is going on tour later this fall and I am so excited to support her at one of her shows. I am so excited to cover this artist because she deserves more support! Please stream her album and let me know what you think if you haven't heard of her.

"Charm" is the third album release of Claire Cottrill (Clairo) that I am reviewing in this video. With collaborators like Leon Michels who helped produced the album and a 3 year project it was bound to be a hit record. With pop hits like "Sexy to Someone", "Nomad" and "Add up my Love" Claire makes a stunning return to music as she revisits different elements of her original work from high schoo...

    I wanna add my two cents on this, Maddison Beer doesn't have a specific sound or look that people would be attracted to like Chappell Roan, chappell has an iconic look that people will gravitate towards unlike Maddison (tho her music is still wearing her influences sleevs ). She also is because she's pretty, very pertectly pretty and since we live in a world that social media pushes that, people are gonna get pushed away from it, it's not her fault btw, it's just the culutre. Her pretty face can cause people to overlook her talent, 'causes insercure, and also people are kinda tired of pretty white women and since she's easy to target, she gets target. She's very minimilsitic, there's isn't something exiting that people want, we already past the phase were minimisltic was the trend, it's getting boring, that's why you see Chappell Roan becoming famous.

    Sublime and Being 17 are two films I could watch again and again. Foreign films are getting to be so good. The characters are so believable. Sublime's message felt like value and cherish your friends and enjoy your teen world, and let adult life wait for tomorrow. Also, I think it said don't despair, there are more fish in the sea. Being 17 also had great messages. I thought it said keep forging ahead on school/dreams and value your fam/friends and sort out your shame, fear and anger. Also, learning to accept love is as important as being able to give love. Oh, and the pheromones, the macking and ooh lah lah, near the end. And sometimes the boy gets the boy.

    Madison is an excelent singer but i don´t agree with you about the style thing and the people you compare her with are really above. Billie has the oversize clothes, Doja is really artistic in her looks, and Madison is known for her street looks but she is not milking that, She is trying to put on costumes (that may go with the song), but is not helping her create a signature.

    Her song just does not feel fully enjoyable to listen. Let’s be honest here, the make you mine song is for people that would like to listen to that beat, and track, maybe it’s good for the gym, but it’s just not a song I would want to listen to anywhere else. And some people listen to music that fits their personality. And that type of beat and music Madison is making sounds good if it was 2010. I mean throwback beats and music are still popular, but you guys need to understand new sounds are coming out that sounds better to my ears. For example the K-pop group bad villian. And then you have kid laroi new track “girls just want to have fun” and it sounds like a throwback, but there’s still something new and listenable that Madison is lacking. If Madison wants to be on top, she might want to study Sabrina Carpenter. Because back then Sabrina’s songs use to be boring, but now her new songs are listenable.

    I've seen Clairo live twice-first during the Immunity tour and then for Sling. After the Sling show, I realized how different she was during Immunity. At the Immunity show, my friend and I felt she seemed quiet and maybe insecure, like she just wanted to get through it quickly. I didn't mind her subdued vibe, as it felt refreshing compared to more overconfident performers. Watching her perform Sling, she appeared much more upbeat and confident, which I think comes with age, maturity, and connecting more with her music. I also met her after the show, and she was lovely and gracious. I believe her energy on stage is influenced by the crowd. For her, there was likely some insecurity performing a new album for the first time. I get where you're coming from. Clairo's sweet, sincere, and demure persona is charming to me, but I've felt similarly about other shows.

I've never felt disappointed leaving a show before which is why it was so shocking :( after waiting 7+ hours to see someone perform.

    Maybe it's also possible, it could be that because Justin bieber knew what the industry is like, he tried to get her out before she got in too deep.... Like he did.... Just speculation. But an interesting angle nonetheless.

    • @nueyfoster
      @nueyfoster หลายเดือนก่อน

      i’m not sure how involved Justin was towards her getting dropped from the label by Scooter. She did make it seem like at that point there was no one there so i’m not entirely sure but the scandal she went through at that time was a big huge deal. I believe they’re still friends and on good terms though.

  • @Enigmatis11
    @Enigmatis11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    She's not at the top because she writes her own content and directs her own artistry. When she doesn't promote negative things that fit in with the industries agenda they will do everything they can to make her look bad because she isn't willing to sell out like the rest. That's why she's not being promoted as heavily as the other sellouts. The ones at the top who are getting the most media attention are normally the ones that did something right in the eyes of the wrong😊 remember nothing is as it seems. 😊

    • @nueyfoster
      @nueyfoster หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not mad at her vocal performance, I think she nailed making an album that she knows how to do while keeping it a Clairo record. A lot of her identity is wrapped inside of it and I feel like the appeal of Clairo, really is the simple nature of her voice while adding touches of complexity in the words or production. I can't see any other artists writing a record like "Charm" which is why I find it appealing because of the way she went back to refine some of the things that make it her. I don't really go to Clairo for anything crazy like runs or vocal flips but I do appreciate her talent and passion for musicality. That girl can write a pop-chorus in a unique way which I will always find really impressive.

    • @priusdriver596
      @priusdriver596 หลายเดือนก่อน

      totally agree, in all honesty i just do not think her vocals have ever been strong enough for the level of production or commercial success she has recieved. i think it is glaringly obvious w this new album that she is not able to keep up even w her own produsction team, and seemingly has not improved her vocals at all since her last album. in my opinion, at this point in commercial success, an artist needs to take the mastery of their craft seriously. it is not enough to have an idea but not properly execute it.

    I love this review, the thing the record was missing for me was her vocal performance, the instrumentals and lyrics were beautiful but she just doesn't emote the way you might long for and DELIVER vocally live (thinking of that Jimmy Fallon performance). she ironically enough lacks a charm that comes to performance on the record and especially live. this album and her showcase of it is coming at a time where there are so many PERFORMERS that we are saying go-all out and Clairo is coming in where she's going all out on everything 'else' except this aspect. i would love to see her level up the visual identity of this record. the cover is so dope but visually what else is there? we needed some album-world building that would elevate the record 10x fold. love this review - thanks again!

    Thank you so much for this list, I've now got a few more films to watch! I was already familiar with most listed. My first gay (i.e., not porn) film was "Maurice". A well-written period piece with a happy ending (not to mention a young, gorgeous Hugh Grant). I immediately fell in love with "Shelter" (2007) and still watch it (and a few others on my list) when I need cheering up. Sweet, romantic, uplifting, and inspirational. My fav gay dramedy is still "The Broken Hearts Club", with a cast of handsome Hollywood, and TV beloved well-knowns. Well-written and acted; it still begs for a sequel ...although it would likely need a new cast. I loved/hated "Brokeback Mountain". Still haven't seen the entirety of "My Own Private Idaho", only bits and pieces. Watched the whole "Skam" (Shame) series (several different productions from several different countries ...I've seen them all; beautiful boys in every one! Norway's is my fav. The only ones on your list I haven't seen are "No Night Too Long, Kajillionaire, and Moonlight. One of my all-time sweet, cutely funny, sexy, romantic, uplifting favs is Brazil's 2007 film, "The Way He Looks". Another happy ...and proud... ending. (This one's my all-time fave for a rewatch when I'm down.)The original was a short version that became so popular on TH-cam that it was remade with the same cast and basic story, but a full-length version. You can still find both versions on YT ...but do go for the longie! 🎥❤

Over the years I’ve seen an increase of people talking about her as an actual artist. People also bring up the fact that she’s been making music for a decade, but her first album only came out in 2021. Beach Rats was, at one time but not currently, on the Library system's streaming service. Time to go see where I can find the items on your list. :) 💖

    I'd like to add on. There's a movie called Maurice and I definitely think that if you make a part two to this, this should be added. It's very cinematically pleasing (to me) and I definitely think it's worth the watch! I will be checking out these movies tho.

      I liked Maurice, I just didn't love it because they spent so much time away from one another it became it completely different movie in my opinion from the first half -and they start dating different people but it is good

    Cute clothes. Very millennium-inspired, but in a good way. I would change my background (turn 180°) to use the light from the window to my advantage. The glare makes this uncomfortable to watch. You don’t look bad, you’re badly lit. 😊

    ryan is such a crucial artist in my life, dreaming of david was a huge album in my self acceptance journey & i grew up (went through middle school/early high school) with him as one of the few queer artists i really connected with. calico was such a cool reflection album and the way he writes his lyrics is so personal and intimate. he’s got such endless talent and i absolutely love everything he puts out 🤎🤎
