BMW E39 Gas tank Replacement | 540i Restoration
I thought my epoxy repair would make it longer. The reality was that since there was a previous repair I think this one wasn't going to bond properly and a replacement tank was inevitable. So it was time to switch it out with some other "while I'm in there" parts.

    I went to a Ford dealer in Dandridge TN, Rusty Wallace, they would order, i deeded to pay for, would have the next day. However, i ask if they can program my 2020 F550, they said NO. From there the service manager said no, they wont install in my truck. Would not check with Ford, were not willing to check if my 2020 F550 had AGM setting to use and agm would work. Would be will to sell, maybe install but manage said my truck calls for lead acid, nothing else to explain.

Easier to install, no waste drain, smaller size, higher flow rate and more. Furthermore its a proven product with years of history but it hasn't been the highest priority for marketing for my company. I tried sending you an email but can't find a good address. Please let me know if your interested in more details and maybe even giving it a try and comparing the water produced and experience to your RO experience. Thanks.

    • @DrivingForwardBuilds
      @DrivingForwardBuilds 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      For sure cheaper. Ideally you'd want a shorter insert so you dont have oil stuck in the pan when you change it. That's why I had to trim mine down. Which is also why I'm glad I added the loctite.

    You can’t do it from the bottom? Remove the baseboards, cut the drywall, inject in the foam and then install a taller baseboard to cover the hole?

    • @DrivingForwardBuilds
      @DrivingForwardBuilds 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      With foam, you probably could do that. But what I see most often here in Phoenix with foam retrofits is they spray from the outside through the stucco. Even still they wind up spraying it in through multiple holes per cavity. I think gravity would be your worst enemy with that from the bottom.

    Professional here... Adding more tension to the spring reduces the life of the spring. Springs are rated for weight/height of the door at a minimum for 10,000 open/close cycles. Absolutely correct adding insulation to the door adds weight, for which springs needed to be exchanged. Also, IF your springs lost tension after an install, it was not done properly. NOT TO SAY IT DOES/CANNOT HAPPEN. Always contact a professional. This gentleman gave us the biggest hint as to why this was not done correctly. The person doing the work is a FRIEND! Make sure your friend does the work properly. PLEASE CALL A TRUE PROFESSIONAL.

      @DrivingForwardBuilds 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for commenting. Though to correct you my friend is a professional. The springs were replaced prior to the video for the weight that it would be, and my RV springs were already oversized. The spring adjustment was to rebalance for the weight. Appreciate you watching out.

      @DrivingForwardBuilds In the beginning of the video he stated, "Springs lose tension." Why are you back tracking? I stated sometimes springs lose tension, which if done properly should not happen. Nothing was stated you had new springs installed prior... Which you stated... I feel it's still misleading information. IF the springs were changed, why not explain that in the video, show the process? Obviously you were caught being deceptive, and now lying about it. Make sure to use professionals. Not just a "professional" friend.

    Great video! I was thinking of getting a 2 or 4 poster. I have a thick reinforced slab just so it could handle a 2 poster and 12' ceiling, but hate the thought of tying up space in the shop. The portable aspect is really nice. I never knew there is such a thing. Thanks! Cheers from Canada.

      I did not. It is recommended though. You can remove the fuel pump fuse and crank a few times with a break in between for the starter to cool. I did however dump a few quarts of oil through the housing to fill the lines.

      I used a mix of genuine or OEM from FCP Euro. Many of the parts came as a package deal in their "Ultimate Kit". part number 11311741746KT1. I probably could have done it cheaper picking and choosing parts but I wanted to cover my bases on my first time doing this job.

    Works exactly as he shows. However I found using (2) water separators removes the majority of the residual water and keeps the tank supply much drier. Otherwise, this is a MUST HAVE on any compressor system!

    Hello again, I am receiving my new 2024 f250 7.3L Godzilla gas engine truck in 2 weeks. I was looking at some ford Godzilla motor problems and saw that a few owners have this Cam and Lifter issues which in some instances ruins the engine. It seems that the issue occurs more on heavy ideling motors like campers, box trucks and delivery trucks. Ford has come up with a fix for this. It seems that this motor has a variable oil pump and when ideling, the oil pressure is a little low. Because of that, their is not a lot of oil passing to cool down the cam and lifters. • @DrivingForwardBuilds

      @ the teflon seals? I was thinking tht i hope so

    • @DrivingForwardBuilds
      @DrivingForwardBuilds 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@EJThaChiefa Yeah. On the N54 they are more prevalent. They were a hardened metal originally which is what scores the cam trays. However, even in my 2002 540i, the seals were metal and after 22 years there was minimal wear when I did chains and guides and rebuilt the vanos. I think the the N54 suffers from the same fate as most modern BMW engines and that's oil change intervals that are way too long causing more wear.

    How do you deal with horizontal electrical conduit in the walls?

    • @DrivingForwardBuilds
      @DrivingForwardBuilds 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Are you asking how the insulation gets past the wires? There really shouldn't be an issue with horizontal wiring. The insulation is small enough to go around the wires. Having a "home run" or large bundle running horizontally would be odd.

      I needed the continuous ramps for two reasons. I parked a car over the lift most days, and it was much easier to drive onto that way, and with how low some of my cars are the split ramps wouldn't be high enough.

    I love this lift. I actually have two TW200 motorcycles that I roll onto the lift, side by each, for storage or when I am working on them. The lift and the bikes tuck in the corner of my shop perfectly. When I working on a car and I need access to the center of the car, I picked up some 5k truck jack stands that I set the car onto so I can roll the lift away and have full access under the car. It's not high enough to sit under, but it's plenty tall enough to roll around underneath on a creeper and work straight armed. It's really a great investment for folks who work on their cars a lot.

    thanks for sharing your great design! carrying this thought even further, since compressed air is so hot, this application seems ideal for heat-powered coolers. an ammonia and water absorption cooler, like the old gas refrigerators, uses heat to cool an evaporator that you would place adjacent to your cooler fan, cooling your compressed air below the ambient temperature by the time it enters your tank. ...or, a paired sterling engine/cooler could work similarly, providing sub-ambient cooling from the compressor heat. it would be interesting to see if there are any commercial compressors that take this approach. Edit: I see Thermax offers absorption chillers for air compressors, but at industrial and not at garage scale. Even though they get "free" energy from the compressed air heat, but maybe at smaller scales, chilled compressed air isn't worth the capital cost of an absorption chiller?

    • @DrivingForwardBuilds
      @DrivingForwardBuilds 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Chilled compressor cooler/driers are more often found in commercial applications with paintwork and blasting/coating. They need dry clean air. In a home shop you are often, as you pointed out, limited by the cost of such applications. However with the skill and enginuity it could be done, and you sound like you know enough to make it happen! Thanks for the comment and view!
