I Refused To Babysit My Stepbrother's Child. My Mother Was Against It Because She Loves His Father. I Had To Tell My Dad
-----
After my mom remarried, her stepson, Josh, and his wife, Melissa, started expecting me to babysit their baby, Lily, for free. At first, I helped occasionally, but then they started treating it like my duty. When I refused, Josh called me selfish, and my mom sided with him, saying I should “help family.”
Things escalated when Josh and Melissa dumped Lily in my room without asking and left the house, ignoring my messages. Furious, I called my dad, who was outraged and personally came over. He confronted my mom, threatened legal action, and shut down Josh’s excuses by asking why he did not take care of his “sister” instead.
After that, they stopped bothering me-but the funniest part? A week later, I found out that Josh and Melissa were now paying the neighbor girl $15 an hour to babysit. Turns out, when they had to actually pay, they no longer believed I had “so much free time.”

AITA During Christmas Dinner, My Sister And I Decided To Swap Kids... - Best Reddit Stories
How about finding photos of the “gifts” on Amy’s list, putting them into separate boxes wrapped beautifully! Giving Amy what she asked for! Yes, I can be petty with people like Amy - thank heavens we dint have anyone like her in our family!
We nabe used “wish lists” in our family, for years but only as suggestions in case someone doesn’t even have a clue! And no, we did not expect to get everything or even anything on this list! I’ve always asked for suggestions and so,does my husband but we still surprise each other. Our grandchildren it’s 1600 miles away and we were not invited to come this past year!🥴. So we sent real money to them (they are 5-1/2 and 2)! Our grandson is almost 18 so we sent him a very nice gift card as we had less than a clue him! Same with our DIL and son! We received a New Year’s photo card of the grand children in matching Christmas PJs in early January! (And without any note on the back!)That’s all! Didn’t expect a gift but a signed card would have been nice!
A GIFT is freely given, without any "other obligations" - sending out a shopping-list one wants to be gifted, is just silly. Give her an empty box, wrapped up perfectly, to call it "all our love and thoughts" 😅
The minute the parents of that child walked out the door, I would have called the police and reported an abandoned child. The most important thing to remember here is that her mothers husban, his son, daughter in- law and Lilly are NOT family. So OP doesn't need to lend a hand with the baby. Even if her mother had a new baby, she isn't responsible for taking care of that child either.
Put baby in Josh’s room, change diaper from #2, leave diaper there
Opie’s dad is the hero
If they can’t take care of their kid, they shouldn’t have a kid it’s not like they are single parents. There’s two parents there. The baby is the one who’s going to be hurt from all of this and OP. They need to learn boundaries.
OP is a teenager not an adult the parents need to step up. She has help though many times and there is ungrateful. They’re the ones who have the baby therefore they are the main caregivers and the mother can always watch him. The mother is way out of bounds. OP is not their personal babysitter. And the mom needs to realize that.
Parents need to watch and take care their own kids emergencies is fine but you want to take a nap. You have the baby to the other spouse and you at least thank the person who’s watching your kid. And don’t assume they can always watch them They may have plans are ready. Are you just want to zone out which is perfectly fine they need to find a babysitter and pay them. I understand parents need a little time away from their kids but they’re making OP a parent by asking no bye just assuming they’re kid will be watched
Oh no When step brother 1st dumped kid in my room and walked out after I said no to babysitting. My text would be "come back and get your kid or I will call the police for abandonment and CPS for leaving a baby with a minor. You have 10 minutes " and in 10 min I would do it.
I would have called CPS the minute they walked out the door.
Get the feeling Josh had a Code Brown moment when dad turned his very righteous anger on him.
This story makes no sense.
We give donations to help organisations and write personilazed "gift cards" for the adults in the family. It's not a good look to complaine about the fact that others survive and you did not get something you don't need. I do get a small kick out of the sour faces from some people.
I would have gotten her some McDonalds gift certificates. Lol
What a selfish person !
Chris is whipped his wife wears the pants in the family and I don’t mean that as a compliment if she didn’t want to be embarrassed she never should’ve said anything in the first place, if my spouse acted like that, I would be embarrassed and I would tell them no no one needs to apologize to you. Just let it go. It’s not a big deal there are more important things to worry about.
Some of the best gifts I have gotten I have not asked for when someone asked me what I want for Christmas, Chris needs to stop enabling her and just tell her to be grateful about it
Once you give somebody a gift, it’s not yours they can do with it whatever they want. Amy was not in the wrong for posting it. She was in the wrong for demanding such an expensive gift when she knew what kind of gifts the adults gave the other adults, I would’ve asked my parents and the family member who had your back to go in for one gift for Amy on her list. And if she complained, then she is ungrateful.
The only one being unreasonable is Amy and Opie is not the only one who said something about her ridiculous demands for Christmas.
Why should Amy get expensive gifts when the other adults don’t get them? Chris should understand that his wife is greedy and he is enabling her.
Amy is extremely material and greedy, Christmas it’s not just about the gifts. It’s about the family memories and the thoughts that go into the gifts some of the best gifts I have gotten we’re not expensive. Suggestions every gift was freaking expensive I don’t think I would’ve sent an email. I would’ve just given them a gift card with money on it so she could put money towards those expensive gifts.
Why not to say to Emy what a great idea with the list and make, your own and give it to Amy....
I always said to not complain or it will be half a packet of chocolate coated peanuts and stuck to it. Worked a treat. No more complaining.
I'd burn the list and get Amy a teapot, a candle and a broom. Some things that every house should have.
Why bother to respond?? Just dump the list and do what you want. Problem solved.
How about, “some people in this family lack common courtesy”.
I try, every year, to give my husband a list of things I need, ranging from cheap to expensive. He never fails to screw it up. I get whatever is on sale at 5:45 Christmas Eve.
I would have demanded an apology from her when she put her present for sale ❤
I would have just said limit $50 for adults that’s it. Or no more exchanges.
My sisters and I had a $10 limit on gifts for decades.
Easy solution: just don't give either Chris or Amy any more gifts, ever.
Agreed. And tell them to stay home
Amen.
What did she buy you?
I can’t believe how entitled your sister was by asking you to buy her a Louis Vuitton handbag for Christmas and even give you a detailed list to the experience handbags she wanted then she tried to sale the Christmas gift you gave her and got caught and shamed and now is expecting an apology god not everyone can afford to buy a Louis Vuitton handbag or products from them they are very expensive thousands of dollars she and her husband can just save up for it or she can get a job to help save for it 😤😤😤😡😡🤬
I would have just laughed and ignored it
Then start gifting her joke gifts! Dog poop in a bag! Don't try for anyone who chooses to be an 🫏🕳️! She is going out of her way to be an 🫏🕳️ so give her what she deserves! We use to have a trophy that was a donkey’s butt that people would get if they acted like an 🫏! Get one and gift it to her!
CPS, LINDA LEFT THE KIDS ALONE.
just give them all money the same amount if that doesn't work don't give anything at all and tell them why you did it, if they still complain just stop giving
If you cant raise your kids dont have them in your 50’s no really the ai says mil was 50 and 52
2 kids r u kidding me ! She’s just bloody lazy and your stupid for helping her ,ugh dumb people, raise your own damn kids,
Hang on, why is OP doing all the work? Jake was there too!
Stop giving them a damn thing. Especially NC. Tell Jake to get Effed.
If I was OP, I'd report her to CPS, I don't play, you're the parent, raise your own damn kids!
They feel entitled to your money...they don't want you
Look, this video alone is enough to prove that (at least some) people have kids not to better the world. They want to make people for their uses, and then they want the rest of their tribe to do the same or else they harass them. Also, they themselves would be busy everyday bettering the world too if they were doing things for the world. Thole thing basically proves to me how much free time these parents have in their hands so they make kids, aka some kind of a toy to play with. I am so disappointed with these "parents".
Stop giving gifts permanently!
The best thing to do is stop giving gifts to anyone
What a bunch of ingrates. Gift cards and sweaters or hat gloves scarf sets or even cash in card and be done.
20:59 mother in law should get a new hobby and new life
Ech, OP didn't "Ruin the joy of gift giving", OP ruined the joy of gift Getting.
Make a lovely video of everyone's reactions towards their gifts that you have given them over the years that show how ungrateful and greedy they are towards you and towards each other and show it to EVERYONE in the family on Christmas Day. Tell them that the ugly and immature ways that they have reacted over the years about the gifts they receive have finally been heard and received. You finally understand that they are not grateful nor are thankful for even receiving a gift, and that you are tired of everyone being passive aggressive and jealous towards each other for believing that someone else got a better or more expensive gift than they did to the point that they start mini arguments about it. So you won't be giving them anymore gifts. It just brings out the entitlement, greed and selfishness in all of them. If they don't like that, then they need to change and just be happy that their family actually got a thoughtful in the first place because a LOT of people don't get gifts on their birthdays or Christmas because they cannot afford it.
Doesn't Rachel's ex-husband pay child support? If he doesn't, she should take him to Court. OP should not only cut contact with a sister, she should also file a police report for Rachel wap on using CPS.
