IF YOU CAN MAKE IT BETTER THAN IT WAS ... THEN WHY NOT DO IT?
When looking back at the way things were, when you didn't know what you know now, how can you not make things better? This motor was just thrown together, in the early days, to just get it going to run around town on. Now is the time I am thinking about parting with it and, after a small noise made me tear it apart, I am glad I did. I have now decided to go all the way with a total rebuild so the next owner will have a fresh start and a good bike for years to come. Hope you enjoy!

    Hey sir, I am a little confused as to where I might find the information to keep my rigid frame chopper fully maintained and in top notch running order. I have a Santee straight legged frame and mounted on it is a 1994 Evo 1340 engine. The transmission is a 4 speed kick only ratchet top unit. The primary is a 2 inch open belt and a 5 stud basket with plates and steels. That unit in turn drives a 530 oring chain that drives the rear wheel. This bike is in the process of being put together now. I really need some kind of service manual for this chopper to take a lot of the guess work out of the torque specs, and fluid capacities as well as "how to do general repairs on it". What would you suggest for me to have to answer the thousands of questions that come up everyday keeping this fine old ride chugging along. and keeping break downs at a minimum? Thanks for any help! Greg

      I would say a manual for 93 up Evolution and one for early shovelheads (pre 1979 for the trans). In some of my earlier videos there are a links in the description to "Emanualonline.com" for all your needs. Use this code VINTAGEHARLEYS22 for a discount before the end of the month july 31st. I have a 1999 fxstc with light brown goop coming from wire hole underneath riveted timing cover. Quick google search tells me the ignition will fail soon. I can’t seem to find oem replacement. Is this the fix for my problem? The motor is stock. Would this replacement configuration be dual fire? Do I also need a replacement coil or is there one to reuse? Thanks!

    • @itsmytimeletsgo
      @itsmytimeletsgo 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Brown goop is not good lol. Yes the Dyna 2000i would be a great choice for you. You can set it up in the "dual fire mode" and use your existing coil. If you do be sure to follow the "wiring instructions carefully", as it is totally different for dual fire vs single fire. Then if you want to run it as single fire, down the road, you can just add the single fire coil, configure the wiring for single fire, and throw the # 6 dip switch for single fire mode. If you go all the way , ignition and single fire coil, I can gaurantee you that you will be very happy with the performance. Thanks for the question. Hope this was of help. Thanks for commenting.

    Say what you want about Harley Davidson, the aftermarket, specifically S&S. Their stuff isn't just overpriced, it's ridiculously expensive. $305.00 Canadian is crazy. A breather oversized or not is a $25.00 part, $30.00 at the most.

    A lot of guys say that they don't like single fire. What's your take?

    • @itsmytimeletsgo
      @itsmytimeletsgo 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I like the single fire systems, although they are not so good for a kick start bike mainly electric start. To hard to kick start. I stick to the Dyna "S" for kickers. Thanks for comenting.

    I just recently started watching your channel & find it amazing as well as amusing. My 81 has the extra passages to scavenge top end oil from the cylinders to the tappet blocks. Did you eliminate this by changing cylinders ? If so, why ? Do you think the grove in the breather bore was critical & what was the cause ? A new S&S .030 over gear is $ 200 USD down here. Have you ever used the Evo reed valve breather ? Great detailed video, Thanks Ralph

      @itsmytimeletsgo 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Welcome to the channel! This bike did not have the outside drain type cylinders. Yes the groove in the breather bore is critical as it will cause an excess build up of oil in the case and usually results in excess oil being pushed out the lower crankcase breather hose. Going to use a breather valve in an 89" Evo I am building now. They are only for 92 and up type motors. Haven't in the past but look forward to trying it. Everything is expensive up here. ha ha. Thanks for comenting.

    If you just replace your Hydraulic lifters with solids, it will tap so loud that you will never hear another tic 😅

      @itsmytimeletsgo 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I don't think is is possible in the hole as there is the large window and it would probably fetch up. It is also needs to be very deep and accurate right to the bottom of the hole. The cut takes out about .030" so that would be a lot of honing lol. Thanks for the question and commenting.

    I have 2 motors going together now 72 and a 77 have you ever thought of value steam seals and port work on head's

      I use valve stem seals with bronze guides, but you have to watch the clearance from the top of the seal to bottom of the top collar. I am not a porting guy, just cleaning them a bit sometimes. Thanks for commeting.

    If I still had my '66 shovel I'd bring it all the way to Canada for you to fix. No one could ever get it right back in the '70s when I owned it. That's me sitting on it in the picture. Great video, keep 'um coming.

    I always learn something from your videos, and a VERY nice scoot that is. A question for you on our 78, I'm hesitant to use the manual's suggestion for spark plug torque ,18 to 28 ft lbs. I cant bring myself to go more than 14 ft lbs.

    • @itsmytimeletsgo
      @itsmytimeletsgo 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks glad to hear that. I really do that by feel, rather than torque myself. I snug it up and give her another 1/4 turn or so and that usually does it, with the old heads especially. They have had so many plugs in and out that one has to be careful with them. Thanks for commeting.

    Awesome video! Quick help. I have a dual fire | Coil system but it only has two terminals, not three. How should I wire this up?

    • @itsmytimeletsgo
      @itsmytimeletsgo 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Ok you hook up the white wire (from the Dyna) to the positive side of the coil, either terminal it doesn't matter but it will also have the 12v power wire hooked to it, (powered when the switch and the kill button is on).. ( some later models can have a single white/black wire for power) Attach the two together (12V wire and white wire) on "one terminal". Then attach the pink wire ( from the Dyna) to the other terminal. Tach connections(if you have one) attach the "Pink wire from the Tach" to the green wire in the Dyna harness. Do not hook the the 2000I Tach wire (Green wire)to the coil or damage may result! The purple wire can go to the VOES switch wire if you have one. The blue wire is left unconnected for dual fire system. It should be taped up and tucked back into the harness, as well as the Green wire if there is no Tach, and the Purple wire if there is no VOES switch. Look at #6 dip switch and it will need to be switched to OFF for dual fire . Good luck and thanks for the question and commenting. Hope this helps.
