How to Build a Garden Room - Episode #1 - Foundations
Pretty sure the DPC should be a weed fabric that allows water to drain away. Your DPC is holding surface water above the ground potentially evaporating into your building and rotting your joists.
Great videos, learnt a lot. Just building my own. What edpm did you use for the roof. Cheers
Just a side note for anyone thinking of following this guide: I'd recommend laying the larger crushed concrete first, and then adding the type 1 and compacting that. This way, you will have a flatter and more level surface to lay your slabs. You will also save on the amount of mortar you will need.
@7:41 any reason you didn't use spacers down the side of the sleepers? where is there is one on the second one down from it? Great video.
No joist hangers needed? :O
Great video thanks
What kind of wood did you use for the timber frame base?
i think that the horizontal flush batten at the base is a big mistake. How can air circulate? This batten should be replaced with an insect barrier vent. This venting will then be linked to a cold roof venting system. Air will then pass up the walls between cladding and membrane, across the top of ceiling insulation and down the other side, depending on which way the wind is blowing. Your installation here is creating spaces for dead air. Asking for trouble. Dont forget a thin plastic barrier inside.
Sigh. This looks difficult. Dont have clue about pave slabs and materials that come with it or even how to do it. Got grass uneven garden mud slide. If hire someone will cost a fortune. What a choice..
Why not use Sharpe sand and cement alot easy to lay and quicker
Hi, i'm just wondering you double batten horizontal over the top of the existing joists is this to allow air flow from the rear of the room?
Watched the complete series did you leave air gap in between the roof and membrane double batten horizontal
This is going to take a long long time…,
And yes , you haven’t a scooby doo in the construction industry, any natural stone requires a priming slurry whilst install Poor instructions It’s a no for me 😮
The worst I’ve ever seen, you are not a teacher and you haven’t a clue how to lay slabs . Anyone, find other videos cos this is directing the wrong technique.
write the proportions in kg.
great stuff, your garden room is coming along, really enjoying them up to now. thanks for the inspiration to tackle it myself.
Could only get as far as this video in the series before the trashy music was too much to bear.
what was the slab you laid? Looks like limestone?
nice
Great series of videos but my god the music is doing my head in.
How does the shed look like today? curious to see :)
Would the house tyvek wrap not be a better choice the the Dpm means the wood . Wood breath better
No idea
Can I ask what spacing you used for the concrete pads and the joists?
Hi.... great job... building similar size Myself 7x3.5...... Re electrics... why did you choose Ring over Radial?
Great, thanks! Clear, short, and precise. Exactly what I was looking for.
Why did you use broken concrete under some of the slabs, and not others?
Wow a great set of helpful videos, and I've watched a few. Yes, I'm planning on building my own home office and have little experience of such a large project. I hope you are still replying because I have a really simple question that shows my inexperience. Question: you have been building this happily in bad weather. I always thought that plywood and OSB and other untreated timbers warp if they get wet. How are you getting around this as you don't seem too worried about the damp? Many thanks in advance.
enjoyed your videos immensely.noticed you not posted in over a year, hope you are ok and return sometime soon ,take care
Nice one, cheers 👍🏼
we need a completed tour
Hello there, wow I think your building skills are amazing, can you please let me know if you need planning permission, for a big garden office room like yours, and do you get inspections for building regs?
You might need a smaller trowel' the laser level is a good job, what happens if you need the path to fall over a distance, can the level be set for a run off?
Pretty sure that’s illegal
@@TheMrjoehughes He must have had a constant supply of cement trucks?
I find this very helpfull , not just for me but I'm sure every other diyer. Keep the videos coming, all good stuff👍
Why the twin wall pipe? Just use blocks, way easier.
The base is below ground level have you considered how you will ventilate to prevent rot?
Did you use slurry?
lol
Looks a no
As easy as that 🙂
Great work 💪👌
Great video although that wood base is at risk of rotting in opinion since it is below ground level.
Great vid. Cheers 😊
Hi mate, you're a real grafter!keep up the good work and loving your channel Clayton (builder)
Sorry if I missed this, only on episode 3 so far. watching on my TV as I type this. How did you tie it down to the footings?
Cos mi sie wydaje ze ze prubojesz naciagnac nastepnych naiwnych!Powodzenia!!!
How much to rent one of these?
Yo dude, great videos, I’m just curious why you didn’t put the dpm over the entire ground under the frame?
Hi thanks for the video. Just to clarify where you space the centreline of the joist for a sheet of ply / Osb (18:23) Should this be 1220 mm not 1200 mm ?
Just found these videos. Greta work mate. Very well out to together. Currently in the design and foundation stage of building my own
Great idea for the foundations did you hand dig or use a auger ? Looks good
