Cyclone damaged - exploring the Bloomfield track after Tropical Cyclone Jasper
มุมมอง 1.1K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
Tropical Cyclone Jasper wrecked havoc on parts of Far North Queensland in Dec 2024. A few weeks ago in early April '24, instead of going for my regular morning walk, I headed down the cyclone-damaged Bloomfield Track "just to see how far I could get".... what followed was an unplanned adventure.... The track was not officially open at this time, and at the time of posting this video is still a ...

    What model 110 do you have and how did it go generally? I might be going to the tip this year and have a 1995 300tdi 110 that is currently unregistered and I'd love to sort it out and drive it up there from Sydney, or I could take a Holden Colorado. If I take my 110 I'd certainly be doing the same pace you did. Which car would you suggest? Great video by the way.

      Hi, Lulu the Landy is a 1996 300TDI. My absolute favourite model of Land Rover. Go for it. Not to knock the Holden, but you really want a genuine off road 4x4 to maximise the fun and the places you can go. Cheers

    The idea on corrugations is to find the speed you plane over them.....though some times not possible :)

    • @findeverybeach1873
      @findeverybeach1873 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know a lot of people do that, but on the corners you can really risk planeing off the road all together. I think that is what caused a few vehicles towing to roll their trailer/caravan.... at planing speeds you dont get much chance to brake before it can all go horribly wrong. That is my opinion anyway. I guess as my vehicle is also my full time home, and not just a spare vehicle I tend to make different choices from weekend warriors.

    It’s a roll of the dice on the PDR one week you can do 80-90 others weeks you’re down to 30. I do the trip every year to go work up there it’s my second home. You are correct when you said drive to what your comfortable with just watch out for the hero’s trying to go as fast as they can (FW) I tow a trailer with my gear on it so with having 10 wheels on the dirt I don’t want any issues.

    Was your campsite one of the 'official' sites (I think there are 4 - one at the edge of a perched lake and 3 at the beach itself), or just a little turnaround spot you found out of the wind? Looks like it would be impossible to avoid scratching a bit of paint off a vehicle on the way in, with the hemmed-in width in many places. Love the remoteness, though.

    • @findeverybeach1873

      Hi, sorry for delayed reply!. PSI, I only let the tyres down to around 25 PSI - my standard for gravel or rocky terrain. I only go lower then there is mud or sand. Speed on the corrugations - I pretty much maxed 70kms per hour and went slower when needed to... sometimes down to 40kms per hour, but I avoided most the corrugations by driving off to the side of the road in the sand
