Hey Guys!
I started exploring the endless possibilities a 3D printer can provide. I did not realize the challenge of 3D printing an entire RC helicopter! After designing some parts I want to see how far I can accelerate the RC hobby using a 3D printer!
Of course, I'm also a Tesla enthusiast and love working on any engineering projects I can get my hands on!
If you would like to support any of my projects, you can send donations through Paypal and Venmo @LifeAroundDamian.

Clr if it won't ruin the glass?
An empty trailer to a loaded trailer is totally different... I've driven the tesla semi and it sucks so bad.
you can hear an announcement telling passengers to walk to baggage claim over the A-bridge
you can install a active balance
I'll have to do some research on this. Thanks for the suggestion!
How were you able to tighten the bolts and nut after the first set of cells tabs are installed? The other.tabs will be blocking access to the tabs
I insulated my hex driver with heat shrink and used an small wrench to hold the nut on the other side. The tabs are just flexible enough to go around them, but it is a very tedious process.
Hi what is your battery pack specs?
I believe these battery packs are the E63 versions. Here is a data sheet on them: xebike.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/lg-e63datasheet.pdf
@LifeAroundDamian thx. I meant your pack that you built
@MrDeceptacon88 My battery is made up of 24 cells. 96V 60Ah battery.
Instead of a 12v battery for your low voltage side you can just use a dc-dc filter to step down the voltage.
@piingaz5232 Yes I can. I just have some spare batteries to use and was not ready to invest in a dc-dc converter just yet. I'll consider buying one later on!
Very curious what range you attain and how much power that 8k hub motor really manages to reliably deliver... this is extreamly close to the 1985 VF750C build I want to one day do...
The 1985 VF750C looks to have a ton of space and would be a great cruiser after converting it to electric! Talking with the QS Motor company, I was told that I should get 62-74mi/charge at 40mph and 46-52mi/charge at 49mph. So this heavily depends on the speed I'm going, but I will definitely make a video on the data after some rides!
How much did it cost to build the frame thru PCBWay?
This airframe was mostly printed from Nylon so about $45. PETG can perform just as well and for just under $40. That does not include shipping.
It’s going to be out of battery after that pull, also there isn’t any protection between the driver and what you hit
WD40 or any other household lube would work as cutting oil in a pinch. Engine oil from your car's dipstick would have saved your bits... Think outside the box brother. I have been following this build. Get it done already!!! Hope all is well man, take it easy.
@@Epsonblade I'm pretty far ahead of the build, just behind on putting the videos together haha
Just curious as far as what I should expect budgeting for a battery of this caliber, is it hundreds or thousands of dollars?
This set up that I'm running is a little over 1k.
Sweet nice vid
Thanks!
Can it hold the position?
As in staying in a hover without touching the radio?
@@LifeAroundDamian yeap
My car contacts are clean. My problem is the supercharger connectors. Super charger cable contacts are filthy.
I can see that being the problem. Worst case scenario, the person charging would have to clean them, but unfortunately, not everyone is aware of this.
@@LifeAroundDamian Various videos show people not getting enough power from the supercharger. They move over a couple locations and then they get full power for some reason. The contact resistance varies on each of the charging posts due to wear. Visual inspection shows it.
@newworldodor2641 Yikes. Also, it doesn't help that other car companies are also using these chargers too.
why not show everyone what the oil looked like after a million miles on the gears. lol
Ya I would be curious about that myself!
You just saved me big time. I only had 20 miles left. I was in the middle of Barstow. I needed to charge my Tesla and it would not charge. I used the last few miles I had to go to Home Depot to get the cleaner and to go to a dollar store to get the Q-tips. I went back to the Tesla charger and only had 3 miles remaining. I triedeverything you showed in the video and it worked no thanks to Tesla Service, which was closed when I called the number. Thanks so much for your help. Amazing.
@kylebreslow9120 What an amazing story! I'm glad I was able to help you out! Safe travels!
Hello
Cut the Zipp ties so u can use them again they just shorter if you don't cut behind the zip

Wonderful video
Thanks!
Less is more ;) , you can overkill anything , but maybe you only get some extra cleaning up excess some time later.
I got the tesla cable clip, i like to stow away the handle from things like rain and stuff, i keep mine on a wall outside with a 240v plug

working up a mud...
Just quick question will this fix my car because it charges and stops and when I plug it back in it charges but it does it continuously
This helped me fix my latching issue. I have not had a problem where my car stops charging. What are the errors that come up?
Nice can you 3d print genius cp v2 frame how much please
Great job!
Thanks!
You can use tow mode to release the parking brake.
Both Climate and Defrost heats up the battery
hu - just more additional weight on the top, let the printer swing.... ;-) I guess a hose would do the trick to raise the filament to the top... or a shelf...
The skids, tail and tail fin would be nice to have in a high visibility color if the 3d printed frame is too heavy. I dont have this heli, but I'm wondering if these items fit the stock main frame.
These do fit the stock frame. I was just printing in resin for the first time and picked to dense of a material. If you FDM print the parts, the helicopter is not as heavy.
Thanks for the video. What the exactly model number of those cells?
They are the LG Chem 120Ah 3.7v. I just changed all my cells to series, making it a 60Ah pack.
@@LifeAroundDamian Thanks for your reply. If you stack 14 cells on the top of each other, how tall are they? I want to install them on my bike
I’m proud of you buddy
Thanks Gary!
That’s so sick!
Thanks!
Olá, qual produto você usou pra tirar a cola e separar as células? Se puder responder agradeço!!
Hello, I bought these battery cells already disassembled. If you are talking about separating the cells from two to one, I slowly peeled them away from each other. Eventually, they do separate, but you can use a hair dryer to warm them up to make it easier.
@@LifeAroundDamian muito obrigado
You can design for metal printers and use a AL pipe to go the rear rotor, thus reducing number of parts to only a few!
That is an idea I was considering at one point for the tail boom. I'm curious how heavy a metal airframe would weight 🤔 very interesting.
Even simple fix for now: set the screen to 50 % brightness and turn auto brightness off. No need for this jumbo solution
On a 200 mile trip I was driving “late” for 32 minutes and my safety score for the day ended up at 78…that was the only ding, 12% late night driving. Tesla insurance is a scam.
👏👏👏👏👏
Brilliant design, thanks for sharing
Thanks!
Hello Demian! Interesting experiment, I appreciate it! The weight of one blade is as much as 18 grams! This is a lot for this class. This increases the load on the motor, which leads to a significant reduction in flight time! Another problem is strength, how strong are they compared to the original ones, if you say that they are much more fragile than the original ones! So, what is the price of one set? The only option is to make a matrix from which to cut carbon fiber blades, but this requires certain skills, thank you!
Thanks! I definitely agree that the weight was a bit much for a helicopter of this size, which is why it was just an experiment. For someone who just wants to print their own blades and fly around, it will work. This was the first time I was able to use resin printed parts, so maybe with different types of resin might give out different densities. As far as price goes it really depends on the resin your printing with, I just went with the strongest resin PCBWay had to offer. Creating molds and building custom blades is a tough project to get into.
They don't sound all that great.
Haha it wont be perfect!
@@LifeAroundDamian 😀
It's so real though, you can guess the way it functions just by the sound the rotor blades make.
With resin printing being more accessible, it could be interesting to see how winglets or some kind of small guiding ripples over the blade change the flying behaviour
That would be an interesting experiment! I might be convinced to buying my own resin printer. These blades turned out great.
@@LifeAroundDamian Please be careful with the toxicity of those prints. It could be overall interesting to go a bit in the direction of "fan showdown" or the boat version from RC test flight. Like trying to find the most efficient blades but also checking max RPM or lift generated
I know exactly what your talking about. That is one of the reasons I have been back and forth with owning one.
Skills. Nice.
@@brainfarth Thanks!
Looks amazing!
Thanks

The vibration will be a killer in a hub based motor. So much more amplified than when central in the bike frame base. Best of luck.
nice job. what about the weight in comparison to CF frame?
tail boom and baldes on rezin 🤔
Good guess! They are resin printed blades!
Hello Demian! The details look very nice! How much has your weight increased? Interested in durability? And will you start printing trunnions, a hub and a swashplate? This will be a real challenge!
Thanks! The airframe doubled in weight, so around 80 grams. That might be due to the material I chose. Since the parts are so small between the head and swashplate on this helicopter, FDM printing won't cut it. I will need to get my hands on a resin printer to complete the rest of the parts 😕
