Hello Rachel and Sophie. Great to see the younger players getting coverage and to see you enjoying your trip. It was great that England seniors won and reached finalls, but there needs to be a continuation from that to keep that aspiration going, or risk losing the momentum.
Thank you
Hello Rachel and Sophie. I have commented before that I enjoy watching women's footfall because they do have and show character. Your video filled in the bits the highlights missed, so thank you.
Thank you
First good morning from Soweto
Hello Rachel and Sophie. It sounds great. Enjoy it.
Terrific stuff. Really appreciate Sophie's knowledge on this subject.
Thank you so much for this podcast, so important to shine a light on all the other roles surrounding the game. Amazing work 🤩
That echo in the room is hurting my ear
Hello Rachel and Sophie. I cannot claim to be a woman, but this was really interesting. The nearest I can come to that feeling a bit on the outside was going for interviews in London as a northerner, when younger. The younger players now are coming through, especially watching the England junior women's teams. Countries like Wales and Ireland must feel like they have to sprint to keep up and so they need someone with experience of building almost from scratch.
First Viewer. Just want to let you know I love the show. Keep up the great work.
Hi Guys. Please check the trains to Palace on Sunday
Still can't understand what Jonas did to deserve a 3 YEAR EXTENSION. Watching Arsenal sucks the life out of me. For me it seems that they play with no enjoyment and urgency. I think Arsenal needs new manager in order to have a restart, fresh ideas, etc.
When will the Emma episode air, though?
ant intel about Kristie Mewis? is she still with West Ham?
Afternoon! Everyone is talking about City-Barca, but I think Arsenal-Munich will be the crunchiest game. Munich have been quite solid this season and Arsenal looking to bounce back after the Everton game (surely they HAVE to start scoring at some point, and once the floodgates open....) means it'll be a good game (I hope!).
Another WSL match-day, another ACL injury. Is the situation getting worse?
Hello Rachel and Sophie. Good summary. Enjoy the UCL. I found all the media for the start of the season a bit of a slog, trying to watch it all, but Blanchard did come across on the media day as having a confidence she would need for Palace, though I had seen her before as I try to watch the England junior games.
I just want to make a small point re: the discourse around the fixture and WPLL. I’ve heard it said across multiple platforms that “the WPLL knew a year in advance what the dates were” and that they knew before they did the fixture that Chelsea were in. What they didn’t know though was whether one or both of city and Arsenal were in and whether one or both made it in changes the fixture entirely. For instance if neither city or Arsenal made it then Chelsea would have a 50% chance of playing the Wednesday. If all three are in then someone will be on Tuesday, maybe two teams but not certainly Chelsea. In which case Arsenal and city become the issue. I get that they have ballsed it up but this notion that Chelsea were somehow always going to be an issue this weekend and they should’ve moved Chelsea off Sunday might not actually have helped depending on how the UWCL qualifiers shook out. Like there was a 50/50 chance city and Arsenal were on Tuesday which would’ve made moving Chelsea preemptively to Friday completely redundant.
@@goldboy150 appreciate that point and it’s a good one BUT there was a 50% chance that Chelsea would play on the Tuesday and there was a high chance one or both of the other English teams would get through, to have zero contingency plans in place is really poor. It shows that Champions League was in no way factored into their planning when it should have been. There was another moment when plans should’ve kicked into place when City were 5-0 up against Paris FC and the likelihood of two English teams was high. To leave it so late and have no back up plans is pretty poor. They still could’ve not put the guaranteed UWCL team on Sunday to at least show that they’d factored in Champions League.
@@GirlsOnTheBall yes I agree with that. The issue here was not having a contingency in place once the group stage make up was known and fixture released. 100% agree. This thing I took issue with was the narrative that they should never have fixtured it for Sunday when they did the fixture pre-season. If they did that they would have just as likely been in a position where they would have to move fixtures anyway. I know a floating fixture isn’t possible really but I think the easiest fix for this issue going forward is for the WPLL to have pre-arranged alternate time slots for teams competing in champions league during champions league weeks. They could pre-announce that to fans that the fixture is subject to move a day depending on champions league fixturing.
Liverpool is going to kill me this season. It seems 1 step forward 2 steps back. Nonetheless I trust Beardy to figure it out
I agree with that Ruby Mace was awesome to watch - a big future ahead 👏🏽⚽️ from a Gooner 🫣 😂
Are any of Chelsea not on the squad list and can't play until January?
Great discussion as always
Hello Rachel and Sophie. It makes such a difference having seen the games on the TH-cam channels this year, but it was a surprise when Leicester v Arsenal just stopped ten minutes short. There were comments saying how poor, but then the video went, taking comments with it. I swapped to Villa v Spurs, which at least had a couple of Yorkshire lasses scoring at the end. Such a shame no WSL team here after years of Doncaster leading the way. As I asked last time, with all the games, perhaps you need help going forward?
So annoying when the Arsenal game dropped off, no acknowledge or explanation 😡
Nusken and Kaptein I thought were amazing for Chelsea.
Macario*
Always listened to the podcast, didn’t realise it was on TH-cam too. Subscribed now. 👍
Excellent coverage ladies! I was very impressed with Olivia Smith's debut for Liverpool, she had some lovely moments of brilliance.
Thought she was very bright given she had just returned from Colombia and the U20 World Cup. Exciting prospect.
Hello Rachel and Sophie. There is so much content out there now. I have resorted to watching through some stuff on 2x speed on TH-cam to keep up and slow down for the best stuff like GOTB. Note that I do try to watch other countries too.
I don't think either of you talk too much. I never thought Sophie talked for too long in the past. All interesting and important, in my opinion.
Come on football lovers subscribe to these girls who really are on the ball! Isn't it so refreshing to have a comprehensive WSL review with varied opinions from those who try to attend as many matches, as well as watching them. Not just catching the highlights or talking nonsense through a watch along & winging it. Please keep up the great work both...love your content.
Couldn't agree more!
@Girlsontheball no comment about the foul or no foul on C Kelly before the equalizer?
Yep, we did comment on it.
@@GirlsOnTheBallokay I stand corrected.
Hello Rachel and Sophie. Last year I was so impressed with Paris FC, thinking they looked sharper and fitter and more technically aware than not just English clubs, but Wolfsburg too. This year Manchester City were so good and Jess Park's goal made me jump out of the chair as a neutral. If the other teams step up to the challenge the WSL will be fantastic. I hope this will get the channel more views, as you do report it all very well (allowing for WHU catch up). Is it time to get some help for emergencies to keep up to it all with so much to cover? Rachel must never sleep with the other channels too.
Also I have a prediction that might be a shocker: I see Arsenal being out of the top 3/4. I think they will come 5th, and the top 4 will be Chelsea, City, Liverpool, United.
that t shirt is getting some serious mileage Rachel :D. Still peeved I didn't manage to get one in time.
Bjorn is a great asset for Chelsea
It looks like the @barclayswsl TH-cam channel will not be streaming matches that are chosen for TV in the UK. So, how are fans outside the UK supposed to watch? Till last season FA players used to geo-block countries that had purchased WSL rights & those countries who don't have rights to show WSL were allowed to stream the match on FA Player. Can you ask WSL why they have chosen not to stream matches that have been chosen for TV in the UK in the youtube channel? or do they want us to rely on dodgy streams🤔
So sorry for your loss Rachel. As a Manchester United fan, it has been really hard to hear Sir Jim's comments, and to be honest they just don't make a lot of sense to me. Surely the end point they want to get to is that United women's team becomes financially successful (like Arsenal and Chelsea). But they seem to think that this should happen naturally / without putting money in on the front foot. E.g. this summer - Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham etc went off to the US/Oz to play competitive fixtures, contributing to growing their global brand and surely making money off of merchandising. United, by contrast, played behind closed doors at Carrington. I get that they might have wanted the new players to have a chance to settle in away from prying eyes, but it does nothing for the club's growth. INEOS/Sir Jim might say they won't fund the women's team as much because they don't make as much money, but how are they supposed to make that money without sustainable investment and a commitment to growing their brand? It really makes it feel like having a women's team is just a box ticking exercise for them. That said, I am actually really excited for this season. I think having Grace Clinton back will be a gamechanger.
@@Catherine-kt9jt totally understand your frustrations. We do hope things click for United on the field this season and we’re really looking forward to seeing how Grace gets on.
my condolences on the lost of your grand mother, i get you guys want keira in the wsl but making silly remarks about barca because they rejected arsenal offer is not cool
Thank you for the condolences 😊 By silly remarks do mean us saying Barcelona as a club are struggling financially?
@@GirlsOnTheBall that is entirely true, they spent more on players this summer than in previous yrs and why would the club sell a player they need that won't make any sense to sell without a suitable replacement
@@donnievincent5971 yeah totally get that and we did say how key Walsh is from a playing perspective. It was more how the club overall is in financial difficulty and was offered a lot for her and the likelihood is she’ll leave on a free next summer. It’s also something we’ve been discussing about other clubs too. Hanging onto players who don’t have much longer left on their contracts, turning down offers and then losing them on a free.
Great job guys. I really appreciate the work you put in, and Rachel I am so very sorry for your loss.
Condolences to you and your family Rachel on your Grandma's passing.
Yay you are back!!!
Hello Rachel and Sophie. Can you not get an internet interview with a West Ham representative? As journalists might you ask fellow TH-camr Sam Mewis to get her sister to appear in kit on camera, with potential bonus Chelsea player in the background?
great channel thank you for covering the women championship
Love you guys’ pods and can’t wait to get more stuck in to the Championship this season 😊
Brilliant, well done everyone involved.
Thank you for your analysis once again. I appreciate your depth of knowledge.
Mention the ownership within five seconds of talking about the toon 😡
@@jinkysmith yep and spoke about lots of other things too. Can’t ignore it.
Remi Allen is infectious on the sideline. It's genuinely brilliant to see a manager celebrate on the sideline as much as the players. That energy will naturally rub off on the players.
lovely lovely emily syme i am free on thursdays if you’d like to hang out etc
a worldie on and off the pitch many people are saying
When can we expect your WSL preview?
