How a Terrible President Became Idolized, the Myth of Ronald Reagan
มุมมอง 2.5Kปีที่แล้ว
In the 1980s president Ronald Reagan created many of the social issues that Americans now face. he created discrimitory laws to target minorities and gay people. He gave huge tax cuts to the ultra rich while undermining the working and middle class. He was truly a terrible president.

Kurosawa is the master of the moving image, his vision is miraculous. Ran is beyond perfection.

The criminals of Wall Street LOVED this cardboard cutout. All he did was read from their script. Since he was a former actor, he was perfect for the fleecing of America. That's why the (unwarranted) high praise. I remember a family member telling by me back in the early 80's after Raygun took office that my great grand children would still be paying for his party's wonton spending spree. By the time we get around to paying the current deficit already raised to record amounts by, again, guess who, the Repulsives, we'll be lucky if we are emerging from slime pools once again as proto-humans.

We heard so many people whine loudly “where was the government?” & “where we’re the regulatory authorities?” after they lost big during the GFC or to Bernie Madoff. You can bet every last one of them voted for Reagan.

I think he makes the camera move too much it seems comical, the most ridiculous scene is when the two characters pop up at the same time in the frame. The film is one of the best ever written, but kurosawa is not Ozu or bergman, it seems very rehearsed, which is not bad but it's very evident, there are some scenes where the camera moves for no reason just to go back in place in 2 seconds, like the scene where mifune is on the phone and the actress runs towards the camera, it's just ridiculous. Great review

Happy to say that I have most of Akira Kurosawa's Samurai movies in my collection, plus "Dersu Uzawa". "Ran" is one of, if not THE BEST, films I have ever seen, but totally tragic. Especially the beginning, middle and ending. Lots of pain to go around for everyone. And one of the biggest blood spurts this side of "Sanjuro", from a woman who totally deserved what she got. "Dersu Uzawa" is visually stunning, and has many intense moments of personal exposure and defiance. A must watch for all Kurosawa fans.

This is one of the saddest films I've ever watched. I've never even seen King Lear but I knew that this movie was Kurasawa's telling of the story using his own culture. I still have my original VHS copy for the 1980s!❤❤❤

I don't think humans try to destroy each other as their goal but it's what happens after they try to influence others and get power over others when that Gambit is refused people tend to die since they don't want their reputation being anyone can walk over them and get away with it so a bunch of stupid reasons collectively added into one big absurdity is my two cent hot take

Thanks for the review. I watched the High and Low at the Vancouver Cinematheque years ago, and it left an impression. The story seemed simplistic, a formulaic crime genre exercise, so I attributed the impression to the overall stylistic appeal of the black and white 1960s Japan. With your review, I now understand why it worked so well.

An excellent video, but i do have a small quibble. No mention is made of Lady Kadai, the wife of his eldest son, and Lady Sue, wife of his second son. Both women's families were destroyed by Hidetoti; Lady Kadai schemed to bring ruin, while Lady Sue sought refuge in forgiveness. Not the exactly the main theme of the movie, but a very important supporting plot.
