How a Terrible President Became Idolized, the Myth of Ronald Reagan
มุมมอง 2.5Kปีที่แล้ว
In the 1980s president Ronald Reagan created many of the social issues that Americans now face. he created discrimitory laws to target minorities and gay people. He gave huge tax cuts to the ultra rich while undermining the working and middle class. He was truly a terrible president.
It's not even one of his top 5 films.
Kurosawa is the master of the moving image, his vision is miraculous. Ran is beyond perfection.
I think this is my favorite Kurosawa movie. I can't say why this is my favorite, but what you're discussing is certainly a piece of it.
Idk if sayoig it's all in service of "Asking a question" is either accurate or helpful tho.
Beautiful film.
One of the best movies I have ever seen.
As my father always says. The world is mad. Or in Norwegian verden er gal
Yep. This has always been my favorite Kurosawa film
Best president ever. Carter sucked
Carter was initiating the FF transition. The reply of the electorate "He was lecturing".
Movie goes hard!
Don't forget the S&L scandal
Thank you for bringing it up. I live in the UK (NOT US) and didn't remember Reagan's role.
Sorry doesnt come close to the movie in 99
Wish it had a blu ray release
Favorite movie of the 2010s. 😅
That's was worse person to ever be President
The criminals of Wall Street LOVED this cardboard cutout. All he did was read from their script. Since he was a former actor, he was perfect for the fleecing of America. That's why the (unwarranted) high praise. I remember a family member telling by me back in the early 80's after Raygun took office that my great grand children would still be paying for his party's wonton spending spree. By the time we get around to paying the current deficit already raised to record amounts by, again, guess who, the Repulsives, we'll be lucky if we are emerging from slime pools once again as proto-humans.
It has some stunning sequences.
We heard so many people whine loudly “where was the government?” & “where we’re the regulatory authorities?” after they lost big during the GFC or to Bernie Madoff. You can bet every last one of them voted for Reagan.
I think he makes the camera move too much it seems comical, the most ridiculous scene is when the two characters pop up at the same time in the frame. The film is one of the best ever written, but kurosawa is not Ozu or bergman, it seems very rehearsed, which is not bad but it's very evident, there are some scenes where the camera moves for no reason just to go back in place in 2 seconds, like the scene where mifune is on the phone and the actress runs towards the camera, it's just ridiculous. Great review
You didn't talk about Dreams, I think it is one of the most beautiful films made.
Happy to say that I have most of Akira Kurosawa's Samurai movies in my collection, plus "Dersu Uzawa". "Ran" is one of, if not THE BEST, films I have ever seen, but totally tragic. Especially the beginning, middle and ending. Lots of pain to go around for everyone. And one of the biggest blood spurts this side of "Sanjuro", from a woman who totally deserved what she got. "Dersu Uzawa" is visually stunning, and has many intense moments of personal exposure and defiance. A must watch for all Kurosawa fans.
This is one of the saddest films I've ever watched. I've never even seen King Lear but I knew that this movie was Kurasawa's telling of the story using his own culture. I still have my original VHS copy for the 1980s!❤❤❤
I just finished watching this show And no doubt it’s the best show I’ve ever seen…A true masterpiece
Dersu Uzala is very good. Watch it!
During World War II, Akira Kurosawa worked as a director and scriptwriter in the Japanese film industry, creating propaganda films that glorified the war effort:
Ironic that a Japanese dude's career was revived by the "evil commies". While american "friends" treated him like trash, typical american "hospitality". 😂
I don't think humans try to destroy each other as their goal but it's what happens after they try to influence others and get power over others when that Gambit is refused people tend to die since they don't want their reputation being anyone can walk over them and get away with it so a bunch of stupid reasons collectively added into one big absurdity is my two cent hot take
Epic movie. One of the best for sure.
the soundtrack is one of the best ever.
Ronald Reagan was Great Just for the Fact That He Once Acted With James Dean! I 💗 Ronald Reagan 🥳.
He might have been good for an actor we are talking about the economy of our country and what he did which still feel the remnants of his administration actions decades later
It's a great film but in scale and mastery, Bondarchuk's War and Peace is the greatest film of all time.
To be honest I didn't watch the full commentary. I just saw the title And gave a "Thumbs up" True.
Great film. The only thing that bothers me is the old man make-up on the main character... It looks so silly
Dodescaden is a brilliant work of art. His first color film.
Oh no no.... no....
Yojimbo and Throne of blood are pretty good.
its not even top five kurosawa - and ran is a masterpiece
Thanks for the review. I watched the High and Low at the Vancouver Cinematheque years ago, and it left an impression. The story seemed simplistic, a formulaic crime genre exercise, so I attributed the impression to the overall stylistic appeal of the black and white 1960s Japan. With your review, I now understand why it worked so well.
One of my favorite Kurosawa films!
Thank you for the recommendation,I read the book before finishing the video👌🏾✨
This book has a special place in my heart. I loved the movie too. It's rare.
Ran is cinema peak.
I mean, Kurosawa himself considered _Ran_ to be his best film, so...
I adore Kurosawa's films
I loved this book I think this is wonderful
I've always been partial to Throne of Blood, but then again, I've always been fascinated with Macbeth rather than King Lear.
An excellent video, but i do have a small quibble. No mention is made of Lady Kadai, the wife of his eldest son, and Lady Sue, wife of his second son. Both women's families were destroyed by Hidetoti; Lady Kadai schemed to bring ruin, while Lady Sue sought refuge in forgiveness. Not the exactly the main theme of the movie, but a very important supporting plot.
It's not. It is great though
There's a lot of war in it, but it's not about war.
certainly his most beautiful
"Ran" is pronounced like "Han" in Han Solo, not like "tan" or "pan". If you're going to make vid about it, at least learn how it's said.
Tell that to Lando.
What? If you're going to tell people how to pronounce words, use the phonetic alphabet. Or at least choose better examples. Yours are weak af.
Why don't you make a vid as good as this probably you why do people say such things
