Homemade Dust Collector Cyclone or Vortex Cone - How to retrofit your machine
มุมมอง 70K10 ปีที่แล้ว
Want a vortex cone for your dust collector but don't want to buy an expensive one or buy a cyclone separator? In this video I explain how I retrofitted my Jet 1.5 HP 1100 CFM Canister style dust collector with a homemade vortex cone. I was dealing with a filter that would get full of dust and wood chips so quickly, so it made sense to add one of these to my machine. Please check it out and let ...
Makita 9820 Electric Sharpener - How to flatten your waterstones on an electric sharpener
มุมมอง 57K10 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video, I'll show you how to true up the face of your sharpening stones with the Makita 9820-2 electric sharpener. This can be done with any grit and some of these principles can be applied to other sharpening stones on machines where a spinning stone is involved. I apologize for the auto-zoom on the camera as I was experimenting a bit with settings. Please subscribe and follow me @wisew...

Delta 10" Unisaw Table Saw Overview - model 36-815
มุมมอง 4.8K10 ปีที่แล้ว
Review of my new Delta Unisaw that I got a few days ago. The saw features a really nice, long Biesemeyer fence system, and includes a mobile base. Since buying the saw, I've added a Freud 8" dado stack to it to be able to make dadoes, tenons, rabbets, etc. The saw is really smooth and works like a charm. It's one of the anniversary issued saws made in 1998. And oldie but a goodie.

No performance video? WTF - where's the fun? We need a performance link and the details on side clearance. But, literally I was thinking this same thought - like the entire DIY group of builders out there.

This thing is retail at $600 after tax right now for a plastic case with a simple motor probably worth $30. What a crazy world we live in.

Haha omg, having the running water through an electric motor is unbelieveable! This could have gone really wrong. Still, 50 bucks is a great price for these. I'd really love to get one, but they're around 300 + 120 for the grinding wheel new. The Shinko is half that, so I may have to contend with that.

Is the Makita a singular company that makes a sharpening system with a donut shaped stone lying flat with the motor spinning like a centrifuge (i.e. *not* tilted 90 deg spinning like a water wheel as in the Tormek system)? Very interested where you can source these machines in the States...

They sell a retrofit cone that's roughly 35 dollars if you look around. 37.80 shipped from toolmarts.com. Model number DC1100-CA. While it isn't exactly rocket science, I always like to look to find an install guide, or instructions of some kind, and yours was the only one. So despite it not being an official video, thank you :) Just out of interest, what did it cost to get that one fabricated? I didn't even think about that.

I have an older Unisaw wired for 230 volts. It has a relay-controlled on/off that uses 24 volts to latch the relay. By coincidence, my (homemade) shop vacuum control system also uses 24-volt relays to control the vacuum motor. I wonder if you can tell me how I can make my vacuum system turn off/on with the tablesaw? Somewhere in the electrical box on the Delta, there has to be a 24-volt supply that comes on and off with the saw. Any suggestions?

I’ve just purchased one of these from eBay in the UK it’s not made by Makita it doesn’t seem to have a make on it but it’s the exact same machine and runs on 240v The only thing that is missing is the water tank but I’m sure I can make something to trickle water onto the stone, thanks for sharing this video I’ve subscribed and liked 👍🏼

First thing they teach you in shop class, DO NOT DRILL SHEET METAL ON A DRILL-PRESS WITHOUT A CLAMP! If that bit grabbed the metal you would make a fast trip to the Emergency Room. Don't do it use a vice. If you don't own a drill press vice buy one. they work wonders for odd and round parts. You can buy a cheep one for 5-35 bucks on craigslist or shop tool sales like estate sales and garage sales. Someone is always retiring or downsizing and they would love to sell there tools to somone who's going to use them. Not to somone trying to make a profit.

    • @poellot

I use a soiux brand diamond tip bolt made for truing valve grinding stones, they cut very aggressively. I build a bracket using a flat iron and welded a fine thread nut to it to hold the truing bolt.

That mounting central bracket should have been made of a thicker gauge material as it is going to vibrate a lot and metal fatigue being what it is will give its undesired contribution.

Clever means of dressing the stones. How did you attach the diamond dressing stone to the 'L" bracket? Does the handle unscrew from the diamond? Then you added a screw (looks like a hex bolt)... did you tap into the metal shielding the diamond, and if so, how did your drill into the diamond stone as the metal appears to be about 1/16' thick? Thanks.

There's a few things you can do to make that classic Table Saw even better. Build yourself an Outfeed Table, The New Yankee Workshop has a great Outfeed Table design on the Table Saw 101 DVD. Buy yourself a better aftermarket Miter Gauge, the Incra Miter 1000HD is a really good quality Miter Gauge. Zero Clearance Inserts, either make them or buy them. You can also make your saw safer by buying an Overhead Blade Guard and a Splitter that fits the Unisaw, Biesemeyer makes both an Overhead Guard and Splitters that fit the Unisaw. The Unisaw is the best Table Saw of all time, I plan on owning one myself someday.
