We Could be Living In Panama Already, but...
In this candid and humorous vlog, we reflect on our decision not to move to Panama last September. With a mix of laughter and frustration, we discuss the emotional and logistical hurdles that kept us in Finland - from the stresses of traveling with our dogs to the uncertainties of our work and lifestyle changes. We dive into the realities of relocating internationally, touching on everything from the mountains of paperwork and embassy delays to the cultural contrasts we’re anticipating between Finland and Panama.
Our conversation covers a wide range of topics, from Finland's freezing but beautiful autumns to Panama’s vibrant but chaotic daily life. We weigh the pros and cons of Finland’s structure and efficiency versus Panama’s colorful, laid-back lifestyle. There’s talk about the challenges of navigating bureaucracy, the quirks of customer service, and adjusting to Panama’s bustling driving culture.
As we prepare for the big move, we ponder what we'll miss most about Finland, like the ease of online services and Finnish punctuality, and what we look forward to in Panama, from the food and colors to a warmer climate. This video is a glimpse into the ups and downs of making life-changing decisions, balancing work obligations, and handling the little quirks that come with international moves. Join us as we navigate this exciting yet daunting journey with a lot of laughs along the way!

152 days to go till the move! We need to start putting our ducks in a row little by little to have everything ready by the end of March. What aspects of the move would be interesting to learn more about?
PoV: you're having a day off and your wife is a tattoo artist 👌
Good video - I'm very new to creating content and your perspective is reassuring. I'm the opposite, I'm more comfortable scripting, but need to improve on being more natural with improvised content and being in front of the camera. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for dropping by @TheTownsBetween, I appreciate it! 🙏 I'm glad you found this video helpful. Good luck with your content, just keep at it and you'll do great! ✌️
yeah, figuring out the title before you make the video is one tip i don't use. i tried, but i ended up making my normal videos and then think of the best title that works with the content i've created.
What type of content do you make @lughnahsah? Thanks for dropping by, I appreciate it! 🙏
@@SlantedT. This is how I describe my channel in its bio: I explore metaphysical, spiritual, and esoteric concepts, primarily drawing from the legendary teachings of Florence Scovel Shinn, author of The Game of Life and How to Play It, Your Word is Your Wand, and The Power of the Spoken Word. My approach goes beyond simply quoting her work; I engage with her ideas, discussing and analyzing them to make them relevant to our contemporary world. After all, we’re living a century after her time
Gotcha!
Do you try to follow the "best practices" from the TH-cam gurus making or do you prefer exploring and finding your own way to do things?
Keep going, grow and learn. You've got this!
Thank you, @RobWilliamsGenX! That's the plan, slow and steady. I appreciate you stopping by! 🙏
What's stopping you from moving abroad?
I haven’t been to Latin America yet, but do plan to go sometime hopefully next year. My husband is from Guanojuato, Mexico. I think you will be so busy and maybe a little over stimulated at first with all the action, colors, people, music! I think you will enjoy the differences, as you are preparing yourself mentally! Have you tried the Babbel app? I had it, but didn’t end up enjoying the learning experience with it, but people rave about it. You’ll meet lots of expats probably. Homesickness won’t show up for at least a year. I’m excited for your journey. My husband and I were planning on relocating to San Miguel to retire, but now he says he doesn’t want to go back. Travel is good, along with changes in lifestyle. If nothing else it makes you more flexible, creative and curious, and keeps you from getting old!😂
I most likely will be overstimulated for quite a while initially. I haven't tried Babbel, but my Spanish is already at the level where I can read books, listen to podcasts etc so it's more about putting it to use instead of just listening and reading. I'm hoping that the warm weather loosens up the body enough to relax more! It's already getting cold and dark here in Finland. We've had minus celcius nights already and the leaves are falling. Thanks once again for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. I appreciate it! 🙏
My favorite language learning method so far has been Glossika (before the app). They sold mp3 packs with spaced repetition with hundreds of sentences that taught the grammar patterns etc. The app works too but I liked the audio only approach.
You are getting good views on your videos. That’s awesome
Indeed it is @Kathleensplace, thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I appreciate it! 🙏
Love this. Thanks!
Thank you for watching, @BeccaYoley! 🙏
Great advice !
Thank you, for letting me know you found the video useful. I appreciate it! 🙏
That sounds insane! I also worked full-time in my BA Program and went to school full-time, but I did hit a wall. I was sleeping 4 hours a night. I basically was brain-dead by the time I got to class. I remember my teacher in my Italian class asked me a question in Italian, and I answered in Spanish. 😮. Much respect for you treating it very seriously!😊BTW, watched the conference video and loved it! I know nothing about tech, but I thought all involved were so passionate and well-spoken, thoughtful people, I was in awe. Belgium also looked incredible! You are learning and applying so much, and it really shows! Good for you!🎉
Thank you for your thoughtful message! I can relate to answering to questions in a wrong language 😂 I'm not a native english speaker nor do I live in an english speaking country, but I often get my wires crossed so that it's easier to find the words I'm looking for in english or spanish instead of finnish. I'm glad you liked the conference video. It was a lot of work and I sure did learn a lot! It is wonderful to hear that it was still enjoyable to watch even from outside the niche/tech bubble. I did get a lot of amazing feedback from the community for putting it together. I'm already thinking how I could go to do the same in Virginia this month for the next big conference. 4 hours a night sounds painful and not enough to be able to learn and function properly 🥲
@@SlantedT. My husband is from Mexico and I was born in US. I wish I was more bi-lingual than I am. You are Finnish? I was going to ask you about that! My heritage is 90% Scandinavian I found out. Lol! Mainly Norwegian/Swedish, who are such weirdos, lol. I hope you do go with the upcoming conference. You definitely have a fan base from the other conference! They were truly appreciative, not faking. Make some more friends and potential clients? Or maybe co-workers? You never know. Mainly, have fun!
Yes, I'm Finnish, born and raised. My wife is from Panama and she's more of a native english than spanish speaker and that's why I use them quite a bit nowadays. You are from the US? The conference trip would be great. I still need to find a sponsor or make a business case for the trip so my employer would send me there. Let's see if I can make it happen 🤞😅
You are a great confidant speaker ! I still am trying to get comfortable and relaxed in front of the camera ! Keep going you will get there !!!
Thank you, @CorinneChristenson! 🙏 You'll get there, just give it time and don't be too hard on yourself, all good things take their time 🙃
Thankyou !

Thank you, I appreciate it! 🙏
Hey brother let's hop on a call this is what I do for individuals and businesses!
G'day from Australia 🇦🇺 I'm a new youtube channel. Yes definitely a struggle since being on here. Mixed Variety Content. Some people seem to make it easy on TH-cam or no matter what they post gets so much attention.
G'day @themarekch, thanks for stopping by! There has been moments when I've compared myself to others with some jealousy. But I do know that there's no point in comparing to others than myself. Whenever I find myself in this position I go through the process of thinking "would I want to do the exactly same content as them" and sofar nobody has met the criteria. Finding your way to do things takes time. Good luck with your channel, just give it time and have fun while at it!
@SlantedT. thanks mate 👍 yes I definitely see some new channels take off like rockets. But not things I know about or am into. Although some channels have so many subs and like 1 or 2 videos and I'm like how.
@themarekch yeah sometimes I wonder too!
Most people's channels blew up during the pandemic. The most successful ones are on multiple platforms and linked to TH-cam.
I do have also an instagram and tiktok accounts. The tiktok one is so far to repeat shorts, but instagram I use actively. Makes sense that channels grew during pandemic since we were all mostly online. Thanks for stopping by!
TH-cam is a lot harder than we think isnt it. I find that channels are only growing and videos only get suggested and watched if we are using promotions, as soon as i pause the promotion in my videos the views just stop completely, the whole thing comes to a complete freeze. it really is sad cause i know our videos yours included are pretty neat.
Thanks for stopping by @RicPuzzles and taking the time to leave a comment, I appreciate it! 🙏 Yes it is a lot harder than I imagined before starting. There's quite a bit to learn.
New subscriber here! I think you are doing great and will only get better. I’ve been at this 3 years and I still have a lot to learn myself. Keep it up, and I am looking forward to your Panama vlogs!
Thank you for joining me on this journey! I appreciate it 🙏
I can relate. I’m comfortable on camera, but seeing other people getting 1K subscribers on their first video (same topic) while I get 6. Currently I have 2 subscribers and 3 watch hours 42 views. This is from the last 2 weeks. I feel invalidated when no one watches, and I can’t figure out “what I’m doing wrong”. I really like your presence on-camera. Love your process! You’ll do great! Enjoy Panama!❤
Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to leave a comment! 🙏 Fingers crossed that you get your break and validation you deserve soon enough! 🤞
@@SlantedT. Thank you for that! You give me hope! Looks like you are on your way!
Indeed! This definitely gave me some boost. 52 new subs and over a thousand views. I never thought it would happen... I wasn't even going to make this video but something pushed me to make something. I didn't even have a clue what the video was going to be before I hit record. 😅
Don't give up! I got over 100 videos with twice a week consistent post for the past 9 months but still no tangible results.
Damn, that's some persistence you got going on there! I hope you get some results soon enough! Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it! 🙏
Great video and thumbnail! I sub'd and liked to help out. I am encountering the same things that you touch on as a new artist. Getting subscribers is no easy task with what I am experiencing, and I plan on pushing lots of new content just like you. I enjoyed listening to your story and look forward to the next one!
Thanks, I appreciate it! 🙏 Any learnings to share so far from your journey, anything I didn't touch on?
@@SlantedT. Sitting at 11 videos myself, only thing I can touch on is..... yes, I want my channel to be successful and it's H A R D to push content having a family and full time job. Keep putting content out because you have great presentation (something I haven't experimented with yet). Stay focused on positive words as I think those parts are more attractive to the audience (however this video/title to catch me bc of my similar situation.) I'll be waiting for your next one my friend!
I am also still new and learning from everyone else and from you. Keep up the good work!! Well done! You are doing great!! I am also still finding it weird dealing with the sound of my own voice on the vlogs.
Thanks for the support! 🙏 It took me quite while to get comfortable with my voice and develope it to a point that didn't bother me. Also as a non-native english speaker I've also struggled with the just the language.
keep it up dont quit
Thanks, I'll keep it up!
Dude, you've got this! Just give it a little time, and a few tweaks to the titles and you'll be rolling :) Your delivery and everything is fine, you might want to tighten the editing (cutting out parts) just a little bit, but otherwise fine - the thing that *might* give a boost is focusing just a tiny bit more on what value the potential viewer might get from your videos. I started my channel around 6 months ago, not really with a clear goal (still don't have one) other than sharing the things I do to be able to make videos as cheaply as possible for my roller skate shop - and since I do a lot of DIY I started building things I need to make vids, like a keylight and stuff, and the tools I use to film and edit that I can't build (like a mic) -and documented that on my channel here for others to find and use to get their channel started. Right now I'm approaching 500 subs and 1500 watch time hours, so it's not exploding, but steady growth. If I where to give one piece of advice it would be to focus just a bit more on how your experiences might benefit others - like your video right here about how hard youtube is: If you where to tweak the title a tiny bit, and focus on how youtube is hard, *and* what you have done to do it, despite it being hard, *then* you all of a sudden communcate value to those who see the thumb and title, and they immediately can see the value. They might be in the same situation, and here is a video from a guy experiencing the same thing, *and* he's sharing his way of overcoming it. Suddenly the value is right there in the title :) So going forward, if you ask yourself what value other people can get from your experiences and what you do, and highlight those in the titles, and maybe in the thumbs if possible, and let that guide what you talk about in the videos, the value you offer becomes clearer, and it's easier for the potential viewers to understand the videos value to them, if they are in the same position :) Like you moving to another country, and not just like "next door" to sweden - Doing a couple of videos on what you have done to be able to move, like your tips on how to move to a completely different country far, far away, what to think about, small and big practical things - and not in a "here is the step by step guide", but your personal experiences and your thoughst around all the things one needs to do, would probably make for a great video, or several, focusing on different parts of the move, like one about your interactions and stuff that needs to be fixed in the country you move to, and stuff to do and fix in the country you currently live in, etc. Mixing these "practical" things with your personal way of talking about these things and thoughts around it would be great content, and offer value to potential viewers if the titles and thumbs manage to show this potential value to people who see your video in their feeds (or even search for stuff like "how to move to another country" or something similar. Good luck and looking forward to see how the channel evolves over time (and yes, I subbed, interested to see where this is going :)
First of all, than you for taking the time with this comment! There's a lot of good ideas in it. I agree that I should think more about the "value to the viewer" aspect. Little by little. Now that making the videos have become a bit easier I can try to start focusing more on the packaging and all the other stuff. Thanks for dropping by, I appreciate it! 🙏
@@SlantedT. Sounds like a great plan taking it step by step :) Not my intention to tell you how to have fun with videos though, just wanted to share my own experience, cause it get’s *really * fun after that handful of awkward videos are done :)
Yeah I can already tell that there's a new level to this after producing videos become more of a "normal thing" instead of something difficult and scary 😀 Thanks for sharing!
@@SlantedT. Give it a couple more months and it’s something you do almost without thinking about it ;)
To all of my 56 subscribers. THANKS a Lot!! I appreciate you and I'm gonna keep improving for y'all and me 🥰🙌 Today feels tough, but I’m leaving this comment as a future reminder that I stayed strong.
@thetraveltitan Well said. To all of my 64 subscribers....i will say the same thing!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Lets build each other.
Thanks for stopping by, it means a lot and I appreciate it! 🙏
Small new creator here! You are succeeding, I watched this video all the way through and from what I see you ARE confident on camera and are providing value to me. Keep grinding, we got this ❤
Thank you for the encouraging words, I appreciate it! 🙏
Keep going and keep growing.......
Let's keep at it! Thanks for commenting 🙏
I have 220 TH-cam videos and 924 subscribers and I'm ok with it. I hope I can get to 500 videos without 1k subscribers! That may be a record in TH-cam history 😂!
Good luck, I hope you reach your goal! Thanks for commenting 🙏
TH-cam is hard, but its definitely not all about the views! Martin had great advice for you in the comments below but otherwise I'll say keep doing this. There is so much more that YT can bring into your life, keep up the work - learn from each video, look at popular trends within your intended audience's world and see if you have 2 cents to add around that :) Good luck mate! definitely more than 60 or 8 views on this one :)
Thank you for the support! Yeah, indeed, this one got a lot more than 60 views surprisingly 😅 Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it! 🙏
Bro it depends with your motivation i would encourage you to have a long term motivation
Yeah, this is a long game. No easy quick wins here! Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it 🙏
TH-cam is hard 😂 💯
I would've never thought that this title was catchy enough to get me views. I'm glad I was proven wrong 😂
@@SlantedT. For me Iam struggling to get views but now I learned a lesson titled plays a big role in attracting viewers and it must contain emotion in it your video title aroused my deep emotions and that made me stop and have a look to the video
I'm also starting to realize how much the packaging affects. I need to start putting more effort on that side now that making videos is becoming easier. I'm glad that you could learn something from my content, thanks for letting me know! 🙂
@@SlantedT. Bro I would appreciate if you would send me your email or Instagram so that we can connect and learn from you ❣️
"I haven't really got anywhere...." Mate you don't understand-your results are very good. It is much harder to get any one to notice you at all at the start and you are already well on the way to 100 subscribers. You'll find it is easier to get to 500 subs from 50 than it was to get the first 50. Try to think in terms of the growth of your audience rather than absolute numbers.
Yeah this video is doing good! When I posted it I had 31 subs. The growth since this video was posted has been on totally different level than before. Thanks for reminding me to keep it in perspective! 🙏
I'm subscribing to the channels of everyone that commented on this video just to support 😀
The sad reality is that TH-cam is not made for the small channels to succeed, it's designed to keep us watching stupid commercials and ads and have us dreaming with a monetization that will never happen 😆😕
TH-cam has been pushing me content telling that now it's the time to be a small creator, but idk what's the reality. Let's see how the platform evolves. Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it 🙏
Keep on going brother! You will get there 😊
Thanks for the support! 🙏
You seem to be doing well to me... 900+ views on this at the moment and trending up. I have 135 non-short videos... I only have a handful that have done better. :) Keep it up. I'm sure it'll work out.
This video is doing a lot better than I would've imagined. Lets see what the future brings. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it! 🙏
Indeed, it is harder than it looks!
It is!
It isn't hard work, hard work is digging a hole with a shovel, or climbing a 100' tower; TH-cam is just difficult. You seem to have the knack, this was a good video and time together with your ideas will carry you forward! tHanks for the video
Thank you for saying that, it means a lot! Thank you also for taking the time to comment, I appreciate it! 🙏
