We Got Caught in a Trout-nado in Our Four Wheel Camper
Long time, no see! This past month has been more work than play, but we managed to peel out of town for a little bit of truck camping and a whole lot of fishing. Life is better spent in the outdoors which we were surely reminded of that this past weekend. Until next time, we're MTN UP.

    To save space in your storage area, try a captured nut sunk into the wall. Many different options for wood. This would eliminate the nut and bolt protruding into your storage. Great video!

    Hello, Just found your channel and you guys do a great job on the videos. I see you havent posted in awhile. Hope you havent quit already. I saw in one of the videos you said you had a palomino pop up before the FWC. Just wondering why you switched? I'm on the east coast and the palominos are more easily available. Unfortunately all these pop ups are getting super expensive. Even the Hawk Shell starts at $17,000 now. The project M looks interesting and starts at $11,000.

      We purchased the Block It Evolution 400 Series to extend the fabric around the corners and it matches very well. It's somewhat of an insulation/woven fabric and resembles material often seen for car covers. Others have suggested reflectix for the windows which is a smart move.

    Any thoughts on if it would be better to round the corners of your table, now since you've been using it. Thanks for video and details as I'm going to install a Lagun within the next few days in my 20+ yr old FWC Eagle. My install will be different than yours but everybody probably has their own custom install. Your video helped me think about how/where to place the mounting plate and consider how to access the backside for bolt installation.

    • @mtnup3040
      @mtnup3040 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it wouldn't be a bad idea but I will say, we haven't had an issue with the corners yet. It remains mostly out of the way as a counter top in transit and unless we're actively using it as a table. So that being said, the corners haven't been much of a hazard!

    I personally thought this was a very good video. My wife & I are first-time FWC Hawk owners with a 2013 used camper. We do not have thermal packs in ours and don't know when we will be able to find the extra money for them. This gives us some great pointers. Plus, we have two struts in the middle of our camper and would like to have four struts, two front and two in the back. And one more thing...we would like to have solar set up and that seems daunting to us. And I don't want to screw something up by digging in and learning as I go. Yet, I don't want the fear to stop us from trying. This video is spot on for where we are in our FWC'ing life right now. Thank you very much!

    Thank you guys for putting this content out! Having a similar issue with my 2013 f-150. This idea pretty much works perfect In my truck too! I have 2 questions if you don’t mind! 1.Did you choose the length of the drawers to Be longer than the bed of your truck so you had less overhang of the camper? I was thinking about wanting to keep the drawers in even without the camper in it, and adding the tailgate back. 2. Did you screw into the bed to secure the platform?? Thanks again, love the build, and I’m stoked to get out there myself this summer! 🙏🏼

    • @mtnup3040
      @mtnup3040 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome to hear!! You will love it! 1. The drawers are slightly shorter than the bed, so we can close the tailgate when the camper isn't on it while keeping the drawer system in the bed. We have a removeable wooden block/plank the width of the truck near the cab holding the drawer system to an overhang position when the camper is on it, basically a bump stop. 2. We did not secure the drawer system. We probably should have or should in the future by using the factory takedowns on the sides of the bed at the very least... but we figured the weight of the 1,000 camper + the tension of the camper tie downs would keep it in place. It has worked and has not shifted. But absolutely something to consider.

    11:04 I realize we sound as though we are the Weirdos Of Redundancy. . We had two FourWheelCampers with built-in furnaces. We also carried (the olden days equivalent of) a Wave 3 catalytic heater with a dedicated propane bottle. We also carried a Coleman semi round-head propane heater labeled 'Outdoors Only!'... ...nicknamed 'the Blast Furnace'. . Why so freaked about cold? We kayak and SCUBA along the east coast of the Pacific, water temperature in the 40s and low 50s America-thermometer degrees. We dove Tahoe with 2' of snow. Shivers is no fun.

      Kate here: I am definitely cold-phobic haha! Sheesh do I find it hard to rest, concentrate, enjoy whatever I’m doing when I can’t stop shivering. Thankfully it wasn’t too cold this night, so the on/off furnace wasn’t so bad! Your adventures make my teeth chatter!

  • @largemarge1603
    @largemarge1603 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    10:30 In our ExpeditionVehicle, we have two smoke detectors from different manufacturers, two CO detectors from different manufacturers, and we always burn propane with two open windows on opposing walls. . re -- Coleman two-burner stove Just last week, I shut off the 4.2-gallon 15# bottle at its triangle valve. I time the cooking burn to use the gas in the hose, instead of it leaking past the connections. That once, I allowed the burner to sputter out, then shut off the stove valve. . We closed the lid, and tucked it back into its cubby. Looking at your stove, I see a similar valley beneath the rack. That valley collected and held the few seconds of gas between the sputter and me closing the stove valve. . Next use, I opened the bottle valve as usual, then opened the stove valve as usual, and clicked the hand-held sparker. Yumping! Yehoosifat!, that squidgen of left-over juice wallowing in the bilge made quite the impression. A foot-high ball of hotness inches from my face. . Moral of the story: * Stick with the rules. Winging it, ad lib, sh**ting from the hip can be 'entertaining', but not in a good way.

    Its more than likely the sail switch. we had to remove the flexible duct from the heater itself to the grill/diffuser. it affects the sail switch which is a safety feature. I was told by a dealer that it either needs to be a smooth piece of duct or nothing...we have nothing and it works fine..he said he has talked to four wheel and they just wont change it, im sure its more money to do it right...you might try it...

We would have supplied spare material, helpful pointers, and gotten Nancy over here to sew on the extensions. FYI, we prefer the window openings to roll up toward the ceiling and not down. It is much more out of the way. Also, we've heard the fabric is getting harder to get and that All Terrain Campers has switched to a new material for their thermal packs. I'll get down to see what they are using in a month or so. We enjoy your energy and positive attitudes and a young couple that enjoys fly fishing! Enough said ;). Best of luck with your projects.

    2003, we converted a 1996 Ford CF8000 commercial truck to our concept of an ExpeditionVehicle. After removing the rear roll-up door, I fabricated a steel wall and door. I fabricated a rear porch with roof... we are headquartered in rainy Oregon, a roof over the entry seems practical, a spot to stamp muddy boots and sandy sandals. I made the deck of expanded steel, similar to stout window-screen (to eliminate moisture under the mattress, the bed platform is similar expanded steel). With a shower-curtain (or not...), this porch makes a dandy place to shower. . We prefer the rear entry. Approaching through the door, we think the lengthwise view gives a sense of visual and visceral openness. Based on our experiences, a side entrance slams the view against the opposite wall... exasperated/exaggerated if cabinets further restrict the space. . We would enjoy hearing your opinions on your rear entrance compared to shopping side-entry RecreateVehicles at dealers or shows! . [frantic attempt to stimulate the algorithm so your channel gets promoted]

    • @mtnup3040
      @mtnup3040 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Amazing project you tackled! We don't know much about side entry only but can say that walking into the middle of a space may not be for us. The illusion of more space from the back is nice haha. And thank you... so far we have this little community of subscribers that really feel like our people, and we're so grateful for each and every person. We didn't expect to have any so this experience has been awesome. Weekend adventure in the works, so should have another video out on Monday.
