Hiking the Upper Loop Above the House

This is a shorter 1.2-mile loop that we hike around the house. This goes up above the house and climbs maybe 200' in elevation. We almost always cross paths with wildlife, usually Mule Deer. We have around 200-miles of mostly empty private roads we explore around us, as well as the neighboring San Isabel National Forest. There's a lot to see in this remote area.

    Why in the world did you get rid of the propane appliances? I noticed that you also lost your oven.

    • @WhittakerOutdoors
      @WhittakerOutdoors 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's more efficient with modern components and now our propane lasts a very, very long time since the furnace is the only component using it. The replacement for the factory oven and cooktop is an induction cooktop that's stored in a drawer when not in use. That gives us much more counter space and opened up room beneath the kitchen counter to mount the 3000w Renogy Inverter and some other electronics.

      Unloaded: A minor increase to lean in corners. Loaded with the camper: More perceived sway, but that's primarily due to me not having a rear sway bar and running airbags that are linked. Awesome set up! Like you, I just bought a 2019 f350 crew cab long box with the 6.2 which took over 6 months of searching to find one that wasn't previously owned by a construction company and completely beat on. Could have bought a diesel but didn't think it suited my needs. Mine is also getting 37s mounted next week on 17" methods. This truck will be sitting under my truck camper full time from spring-fall in the new year. My camper is listed as 2500lbs dry. Mind me asking what gearing you have? I have 3.73 and I'm just trying to get a feel for my gas mileage with the 37s and camper loaded. Was the mpg listed in the video based off hand calc or truck computer?

    • @WhittakerOutdoors
      @WhittakerOutdoors 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Woah, that's awesome! We have very similar setups and congrats on finding your truck! Mine was a similar search and I ended up flying to Dallas to buy it and drove it home over a weekend. I also have the 3.73 gearing and at our altitude UNLOADED I get between 12-14mpg on the 37s, but need to at 9% since that's the difference in circumference between my stock tires and the 37s. When LOADED with the truck camper we get between 8-11mpg (again +9%) depending on where we are traveling and the direction of the wind. Down at sea level in Texas driving home against the wind for 2 days was 8mpg, solid. Up here in Colorado though in the thinner air, it gets 11mpg pretty consistently. All of the above examples are at 68-75mph, Tow Mode On, and with 6th gear locked out.

    Nice rig. Please tell us more about your budget, if you may. Initial cost of the Montero/pajero, costs of all mods, rust or other inconveniences found on the truck. I am researching a similar Montero for weekends with the wife and kids.

      No problem! Subscribe, because I'm about to post a metric boat load of Montero content.
