SOTU 659 - I GOT MINE
I GOT MINE - John Queen & Charlie Cartwell (learned from the singing of Mose Scarlett)
Well the hero in this song was a winner in the first two verses, not so much in the last two.
"I'm a leader in high society since I got mine."

SOTU 659 - Champion Of The World
มุมมอง 382 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Here's a song about a fellow who was definitely a winner. I sang this song a year back, but, for some reason I subconsciously switched it to 3/4 time. Here it is in 4/4 the way Edwin wrote it. My apologies to our host if he intended to do this one for Season 659. CHAMPION OF THE WORLD - Edwin (AKA jtsteam) Here's how I did it for Season 558 -th-cam.com/video/5YKMtrp3MQE/w-d-xo.html

WINNER - from the singing of Michael Cooney Thanks a lot for this Season's topic Edwin. If anyone knows who wrote this, I'd love to know. Was it Shel Silverstein maybe? Sounds like something he'd write.

CROSSTIES ON A RAILROAD - Dennis Brown This song, from Ottawa's Dennis Brown, mentions the Douglas fir in the first line. The Selkirk Mountain Range is found in British Columbia, Canada, and just across the U.S. border into northern Idaho and Washington.

Bristlecone Pine - Hugh Prestwood I first heard this song done by Bryan Bowers at a house concert near here. I have since bought the LP that contains this song. The oldest bristlecone pine is in the White Mountains is Methuselah, which has a verified age of 4,856 years, making it the oldest known living individual of any species. It is located in the Inyo National Park in Eastern California; ho...

Song For The Life - Rodney Crowell And now, if you don't mind, it's time for your host to make a contribution. This is a song I learned from Jerry Jeff Walker's, 1977 LP "Man Must Carry On" . When Maggie and I merged our record collections in 1981, I first heard Rodney's version on his "Ain't Living Long Like This" LP.

I got mine, yes, I got mine. No matter how I try to avoid it but it happens every time. I start out Laughing and grinning but I always end up crying.
Thanks a lot. I can always use an extra verse.
Love this one
Thank you Lillian..
I love it! That swinging rhythm really works for this. Actually it hadn't occured to me that it would fit... but of course it does! Thanks for doing this!
Thank you for a wonderful song Edwin. I almost re-did it to correct my pronunciation of extraordinary.
@@PHJimY Funnily enough, I've sung this song so many times by now (turns out it goes down well at open mics!) and it's always the enunciation of "extraordinary" that trips me up...
Shel Silverstein was a great writer. Thanks for the smile
Thanks a lot. Was this actually from Shel?
Yes, no doubt. That is certainly the wit of A Boy Named Sue. He wrote most the Dr. Hook songs too. I read When the Sidewalk Ends to my grandones.
@@panhandlingray Me too and "A Light In The Attic and Falling Up.
i love being introduced to the many wonderful Canadian songwriters you showcase so well, Jim.
Thanks. They deserve some recognition.
gorgeous Jim
Thanks for giving it a spin.
Love this, Jim! (Wonderful falsetto!)
I'm no Tiny Tim Val, but for one note I managed.
Loved that Jim...old timey goodness, delivered with great style!
Thanks a lot for dropping in.
Funny, thanks for posting
And thanks for giving it a spin.
🤣🤣🤣🤣You bring the best parodies, Jim. I couldn't help laughing as I was listening to this song. I bet this is a fun one to do as a group too.
Thanks a lot Sabine!
Really nice, Jim
Thanks a lot Cody.
Delightful bring and lovely delivery, Jim. Thank you for bringing Douglas pine this week.
Thank you Sabine. It was fun to do.
Fine singing and picking and I love those thumb driven bass lines. Great take on a classic folk song.
Thanks a lot Bernie.
Sweet picking and singing Jim.
Thanks Mike
Fantastic picking, especially your great ending. And your singing and phrasing were perfect. Thanks for sharing this lovely heartbreaking song.
Thanks so much Charldene.
I like how you do this one, Jim
Maybelle's old "Carter's scratch". . .the first strum I learned on the guitar. Thanks Cody.
Beautiful song, Jim
Thanks so much Cody.
I have a hard time wrapping my head around a tree being that old. Nice song!
It's hard to believe for sure. Thanks Chris.
The picking was super. That's a good old song.
Thanks a lot Chris. I think I got it from The Carter Family, but I'm not sure.
I don't think I realised that these old and majestic trees get a proper name. I wonder if there are venerable trees with names in Europe too. About a year ago a famous tree in a little gap in Hadrian's Wall was felled. The spot is known as Sycamore Gap, named after the sycamore that stood there. It also became famous as the Robin Hood tree after the movie starring Kevin Costner. The trunk of the Sycamore Gap tree was taken away to a secret place. About 12 shoots are currently being cared for and cultivated in absolute secracy. The remaining stump is also regenerating and beeing looked after. I'll add some links in another comment. I've always liked the idea of having a tree as a headstone, and it doesn't need to be a big, old one.
I do recall reading about the tragic felling of the Sycamore Gap tree and I'm glad to hear that it was not abandoned entirely. Thanks Sabine.
Great playing Jim!! An old trad that I didn’t really know.
Thanks a lot John. I think I heard it from The Carter Family.
I have to admit that I thought this one would be on the playlist. Thanks so much for bringing it. Great choice and superb delivery, Jim!
It's the first thing that popped into my mind. Great season topic Sabine.
Fab picking, Jim! (This is SO sad!)
Thanks so much Val.
That's a great song. Wow. Lots of feelings there. I'm glad you are keeping his music alive.
Thanks a lot Chris.
Garrison Keilor! Snap!
Thanks for giving it a spin.
So nice to see you in short sleeves, Jim. Weather warming up there? This shuffling tune is just great for dancing. Played and sang so well by you!
We're still wearing short sleeves except at night sometimes. Rig.ht now it's about 25C. Thanks a lot.
I love the shuffle vibe of this song, and your excellent delivery.
Thanks a lot Cody. I'll have to get a Squeeze song before I can get it on the playlist. I'm workin' on it.
@@PHJimY May I suggest "Goodbye Girl"? Mel and John both did it already. I might do it too, in Bb, probably.
@@Renaissance-Man-Ukulele Thanks. I've started working on Black Coffee In Bed.
Ah, sweetly done Jim. Love that nice lazy strum.
Thanks, lazy is how I'm feeling this week.
Beautiful song beautifully played and sung here.
Aw, Thanks Mel.
This is a pretty waltz, and you play it well, Jim. Your buddy is waltzing every time someone takes a listen. Thanks for the song and the memories.
Thanks a lot Cody.
Good song Jim. Reminds me of a Jerry Jeff Walker song (not Bojangles)another I can't remember the name of. A perfect rendition there!
Thanks John. A lot of songs seem to use that lick which I call "The Mr. Bojangles Lick" and I'm sure Jerry Jeff wasn't the first to use it.
A lot of fun!
A return to the sixties. Thanks Clark.
Amazing
Thanks a lot.
Man I seen this in the ŕeccomended of my TH-cam, I love this good job
Thanks for dropping by.

Magnificent playing, Jim. And your instructions are wonderful! Thanks for hosting this week's season. 🌞
Aw thank you Charldene.
Thanks for hosting! Great theme, and love the intro video!
It was a little sloppy, but I wasn't ready for a do-over. Thanks Tom.
A fine waltz there Jim. The good ones just flow.
Thanks so much John.

Me too. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for giving it a listen.
Nice. Talking bluesish. I enjoyed that. Well done, Jim.
Thanks a lot Chris.
That's a beautiful song. I'm glad I heard it.
I'm glad you like it Chris.
So much skill here, Jim! I am enamored!
Thank you Mel. As you can see by the clock on the wall behind me, I recorded this at 12:50 am. I couldn't sleep, so I went down to the kitchen, so I wouldn't wake my darlin' lovely wife, and recorded this. I did it in one take, so it includes some flubs.
Nicely done, Jim! I love it when a song can use humor to be so poignant.
Thanks John. I feel the same way.
youre so sweet, I loved this little song, it made my day
Thanks Katie. Your comment made mine.
I didn't see this delightful Seasons video introduction earlier. I'm glad I just realized it was here.
