HELICAT Assembly Instructions

Instructional video of how to assembly a HeliCat Set (Helix Catamaran) or to convert on old helix to fit a HeliCat conversion kit. The HeliCat has the advantage over the old Helix that it can be simply tied alongside any vessel rather than having to be mounted to the side. A winch on the top lifts the helix up so that a return flipper bar can be added for flipping the baskets back into the water.

Fine mesh inserts - an alternative to FLUPSYs ??

We have been doing some FlipFarm trials with very small spat in Hexcyl's fine mesh inserts and its going pretty well! This has the potential of being a game changer for farmers wanting an alternative to FLUPSYS. Being able to easily keep the mesh clean in using FlipFarm is a key reason for the success we believe. End float design

We are constantly trying to improve our FlipFarm setup and one of the issues we were having is our plastic end float being too buoyant when in the grow position. After trying a few different designs we found it best just to keep it simple and go with a standard baskets modified by adding extra floatation.

FlipFarm systems - Flipping tight lines and line layout

With FlipFarm lines in deeper water it can be a problem getting on and off them at high tide as the lines become quite tight. This video shows how we set up the flipper so that it is easier to get on and off the lines. It also shows how we set up our deep water gear. Quick video showing the sort of weather we regularly get through some of our FlipFarm sites. As you can see the baskets ride this out no problem. Oysters are rumbling at this point so this site is good for finishing stock ready for harvest.

Oysters being harvested from the FlipFarm growing system. You can see the basket emptying shuttle tied alongside our vessel Kahanui. The vessel and shuttle are being moved down the line by the hauling line which runs parallel to the main backbone and runs in the hauling wheels (approx midship). Could you tell me the difference in function between the easy flip float and the 25L high volume float? I’m starting with a spat setup that I’ll be hand flipping until I convert fully to your system where I’ll probably want to use all 25L floats unless you suggest otherwise.
Hi, the 20L easyflip was developed to make the flipping easier when compared to our standard 13L float, however the development of the 25L float has superseded this and is now by far our most popular float due to the stability and dry height. Can you tell more about the new float? Why is it shaped like it is? And what happens when it rest on the float?
Hi Johan, this is what we call our "easyflip" float. The extra bouyancy at one end means the oysters do not need to be levelled out at the time of flipping. The oysters all stay at one end but the basket remains level when drying. When in the grow position it sits flat as normal. At this stage it is only available in Australia but we have plans to produce in other locations next year. I will have more videos about this soon.
What size/ weight anchor is used at each end of flipline?
These are ex mussel lines so either 4 tonne concrete block or 100kg steel danforth anchor. FlipFarm only needs 2 tonne block, steel anchor (stingray anchors are good) or well installed screw or helix anchor (12" plate buried as deep as possible)
