This storm was intense

Was talking to a colleague about this storm footage after the thunder and lightning we today around Newbury. We were at a football tournament with my son in Harwell that day, The lightning in the film was hitting the ground all around us, which was intense for us adults but terrifying for the kids. We had cycled there and when the tournament was obviously cancelled, l left my son to get a lift home and i cycled back. I witnessed 2 lightning strikes to ground only metres away from me! Absolute nuts storm and situation to be in.

I was going to say that looks more like a kansas storm than a uk one just shows you given the right conditions supercell thunderstorms can occur in the uk i have have personally witnessed two such storms one in tunbridge wells in 1994 which produced tennis ball sized hail along with a suspected tornado although could have been a downburst and the other was in dymchurch in 2007 also produced golf ball size hail ,very frequent lightning and wind gusts up to 60 mph also a very pronounced wall cloud but sadly no tornado must also mention the severe storms of 2014 with that dramatic shelf cloud and the very intense lightning storm in may 2017 all in dymchurch in fact most summers we get several big storms 2024 been very poor but it will right itself eventually we get good years and poor years i think main factor is lack of heat and moisture coming from continent and lack of cold air aloft and also a very strong cap which when it has been warm and humid has prevented storm formation due to lack of forcing but as i have said we can and do get severe convective weather its just generally not as extreme as those events in the great plains of usa .
