Old canvas side curtains, double tarps, those were the days when driving the trucks was an art and a true profession. How times have changed. Miss these good old days.

Seems to me a lot of those photos have a scale car in the background. Only thing they did was to provide cat and mouse entertainment

I used to just stare at SAR’s, Road Boss’s and Road Commanders across the road as they’d pull up at the road house. Still beautiful.

Interesting nostalgia of when North Coast NSW had a timber industry. This was a good era when semitrailers were much more welcomely sophisticated than their 1950s ancestors but rougher around the edges compared to the mid-1990s up until today.

Anyone remember sharing campfires and Nullarbor stew? Or blokes stopping to help you and ending up mates? Or the silly bugger in an old '68 Atkinson who towed a Vatican Mack with a broken tail shaft from a dead start halfway up Sylvia's hill?

I can’t believe how hard things looked back then compared to today but that is the way it was & that was the job of trucking.Only real men need to apply.Sorry ladies but back then female drivers were very rare compared to today where there are a lot more.

From on old truckie of the 70's and 80's. Watching these rigs and thinking of the blokes today. Most trucks are automatic, aluminium sides and load binders. Blokes today, can't tarp, tie a rope, use a dog and chain and can't change gears. Too damned easy. Most of the old 'gentlemen' have pulled the pin, died or like me retired.

1980's no speed limiter, so those trucks will be doing 120 140 kph, then the crashes come.

i still have the odd crack every now and then , and i tell you all, its shit compared to the 70's , 80's and to the start of the 90s. nothing like it, uncomparable. thats all. a great and unique way of life has been lost forever and along with it some real different sorts .

@mrrotary72 There is a line in the song"the race to beat the traffic & the race to beat the scales" if you can figure out what the "scales" refers to you will understand how I got the images and how I knew all the weights. Thanks again for the comments.
