Im making a second war of the worlds story set 50 years after the movie invasion. Humanity has their own mechs called battle pods. Basically fast moving mobile weapons platforms. Utilizing nuclear fusion accelerated solid depleted uranium sabots to penetrate the shields like the mac does in halo. They also developed a special type of direct energy weapon or missile system designed to destabilize the sub atomic field that makes up the shields. Weakening it enough for conventional human forces like at infantry, and conventional armor to be able to get through the shields easier. Dont get me wrong, humans are still fighting an uphill battle, and the majority of civilization resides in fortress cities built into the mountains of the planet. With a large portion of the planet being uninhabitable from radiation or the alien terraforming which made certain regions toxic to humans.

Materiel, defined as the equipment, supplies, and apparatus used by the military. Apparatus can be define as the means by which an organisiation functions. The military is an organisation, and it's personnel are the main means that it uses to function. Ergo, if we really stretch the definitions, the Anti-Materiel rifle will actually affect a person. I am 100% sure this is the only reason such a powerful weapon can affect a human, and certain there is no other mechanism at play, such as kinetic energy and material science. That would be silly.

Although i personnaly prefer the hg wells version, i loved the 2005 film as well, and especially this scene in particular As i always find myself wondering what those soldier must have felt, and what their final thought were They had thrown everything they had at the invaders, exhausted all their ammo, fired every gun, send in every vehicle, and still no effect And despite knowing their attempt would be futile they charged headfirst into the enemy unslaught, purely as a vain attempt to give the civillians just a little more precious time Even when everything, including hope, failed, they kept fighting Wich makes that scene easily my favourite in the entire movie

Kino vid, but on a different topic i always found it kinda funny that in almost every war of the worlds movie featured the tripods possessing like highly advanced shields and the military always being wiped as a result, while in the hg wells book it was always a more conventional fight between the martians and british military, with artillery taking down tripods and of course, the infamous thunderchild scene.

Correction: Military Soldiers are Military Assets, IE Military Hardware, thus fall under the term Material instead of Material. Which implicates that their Material can be Anti-Material'd.
