    Munstangmach --- I started trying to cut the plastic out today -- What a PAIN! This is by far the worst job I ever tried to do! Nothing in my vast assortment of tools is a match to this thing! I am now looking at a Dremel Type Tool with a rotary shaft and some type of cut off blades! DANG! You have to be a contortionist to even be able to close to work under that thing!

  • @retiredperson4054

    So I tried to find a way to remove the 3rd screw (that is right above the transmission HUMP) and I cannot seem to find a 7mm socket combination that will let me unscrew that bugger -- And, you said was it was a PAIN! Well Yeah but I wish you would have shown how you go that particular screw out from that location!

      I believe i used a deep well 6 point 7mm socket with some blue painters tape on the bottom end of socket to give is a little grip. It was a 1/4 inch drive set and it had just enough reach to get at it. yes it was a very tight place and a pain to get in just the right position to get it out. hope this helps. sorry i didn't get a better shot of how to get it out. Thanks for Watching.

    Might have to double check and do this on my car as well. I have the same leak at the same spot. Looked up above and I saw some wet areas around the oil pan gasket, just above the black plastic cover that's in between the oil pan and the flywheel. Moisture both slightly above and below the white gasket line. I'm thinking my leak may be caused by the oil pan gasket going bad. But its only in that corner area. I may do a double check to be sure, because there's also a little bit of moisture back at the top of the engine by the lower intake manifold in the same bottom right corner like yours too. Nothing crazy, but its wet again after cleaning it with brake clean. Hell, who knows, might just do both of em. Oil pan looks easier, so I'll start there.

    Hello, thank you for the video, well done. I am actually installing pistons on a ford 289. The sliding effort of the piston in the cylinder seemed very important to me, but I have the impression that in your video, this is also the case. Can you tell me if I should be worried about this? My ring end gaps are between 0.017 and 0.023" (Sealed Power - E251K... seems to be the same as yours).

    • @Mustangmach-vy4fx
      @Mustangmach-vy4fx 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you are doing a mostly stock rebuild I would think that should be just fine. you can double check your rebuild manual, or you can also consult with sealed power, they may give alternate end gaps depending on your type of rebuild. Thanks for watching.

    Nothing wrong with the silicone, but it's really a "belt and suspenders" measure, the press-fit is what does 99.99% of the sealing. I think they do use a sealant from the factory, but it's more of a "defect prevention" thing than it is a "primary seal" thing, all it does is stop parts getting returned as often. And you gotta remember, these cars back in those days were lucky to get 20k miles before they needed a valve re-grind anyways (part of why they used leaded gas), so they saw service a lot more frequently than modern vehicles. That means that this water pump is gonna need to get worked on again sooner or later (and probably sooner), no matter how good of a job you do on it, just due to the nature of the design of the thing. Point is, sometimes "they don't build them like they used to" is a good thing! These days water pumps last as long as the timing belt does, or longer. But you change the water pump when you change the timing belt because you've already got the thing torn down that far, the water pump is driven from the timing belt, and it's not worth "not doing" while you're in there. Saves the customer money of having a potential overheat down the road in any case.

    Can the LIM be mistaken for head gasket replacement? My mechanic told me the heads aren't blown, but that the thermostat has to stay out of the car until winter or it will get hot again. He also believes the problem is still the head gasket even though it is not blown, does this make sense? 2008 Buick Lacrosse 82k miles.

There was a plate that the rear seal fits in that also has water jacket holes in it . And was leaking anti freeze from the plate.had to separate transmission from motor replace gasket and real main seal. Also had to drop the oil pan to get the plate to seal because the plate seals to the oil pan

    Thank you for taking the time to do this video AND for doing it from start to finish! I did this for a 2013 Tahoe LT. The process was exactly as you showed with your Silverado. As someone commented on your Part 3 video, I also used an oscillating tool with standard cutting blades; my blade set (Ridgid) includes a tiny one that I used for the end cuts. I didn't try it, but I think that a Dremel tool with cutting discs might also make things a bit easier. I cleaned up the cut edges with some sandpaper and vacuumed to be sure that it was all clean. I got the "Dorman 259-200 Cabin Air Filter Retrofit Kit" from Amazon, which came with the plate and screw that are needed to complete the installation.

      When i made this video, the Dorman Part Number for the kit was 259-200, that should still be a good number, but they can change over the years. As for the filter, the Dorman filter in the kit, is quite a bit different than the normal filter from GM. The Dorman filter has a plastic frame around the outside, The GM filter is made completely from fibrous material so it can flex easily into place. Either one will work for a replacement after initial installation. Hope this Help. Thanks for watching.
