I wouldn't say white-washing just because it took inspiration from it. That's not exactly the character from folklore. It's a character that took inspiration from it. Many works in anime and other games have similar concepts, such as Fate's Gilgamesh and Ishtar characters. This is akin to being angry over Raiden being a woman when in real life, the Japanese god is depicted as a muscular male with an imposing face.

@@AidensOpinions I thank you for being reasonable and for understanding what I said. There’s a lot people in this community that like to say things just because they are upset at something trivial. Although I agree that there isn’t many dark-skinned characters in this game, I don’t agree with the things a lot of people are doing because of it. I just want to mention that every character who originates from the Sumeru Desert is usually darker-skinned. If Hoyo had spent more time developing more civilization in the desert, we could’ve seen more darker-skinned characters. However most of the desert expansion was done later and most of the archon quest was done in the rainforest due to that. Having the archon quest reside mainly in the rainforest caused more rainforest characters to be developed, who have lighter skin in general.

People have the right to complain about a product? If a game is culturally appropriating cultures and doesnt pay the least amount of respect to them its well within peoples right to be mad.

People can complain if hoyoverse is using deities(Gods) from their culture and making them not what they are. plus its getting so boring of hoyoverse to keep releasing the same paper white characters with either rat tail or split hair. In Natlan we couldve gotten variety and uniqueness

If you actually look at the people and characters from Sumeru they arent even really dark skinned. Only some NPCs come close to it but all the playable sumeru characters are either white or tan and thats all we get from hyv

I'm black and I agree with Elwey. And let's be honest Hoyo is never going to listen to these complaints and the game will continue stacking more dough because of it.

So I’m a Indian with my family being from Gujarat and I know people can be pale skinned my camera and lighting doesn’t show it but I am pretty pale for my people but even I am darker skin tone than most if not the entire cast of sumeru and natlan which is saying a lot even when pale skinned people do exist in all cultures

@@vantage_val1093 True, pale skinned people do exist in different cultures but it's mostly due to genetic reasons that people developed more melanin to acclimatize with the environment and migratory patterns in the past that helped shape things. I don't think Genshin is going to present all that especially when it's a world out of many - for all we know it could be a Data World out of Honkai. With that said as long as they account for the current setting - like having darker characters for the desert region (which they've done, then it does make sense). Also, people from the southern parts of Rajasthan (which is not a desert), Punjab and Haryana have a fair amount of people with quite plain complexions.
