V12 Datsun Update: Long Overdue!!!
After several months without any updates, I finally finished editing and uploaded this new episode. I hope you all appreciate the time it takes to put these together as I am no videographer or TV personality. I make these for fun! More work is always being done behind the scenes, and I have not and will not abandon the project. Rest assured I will be updating the channel with future videos as progress is made.

    First of all, congratulations on being one of the first Datsuns with this engine. I'm a big fan, although I may be staying L series/diesel crank stroker (you might change my mind lol). I've also got a 510 that's getting an unusual swap, which I will start a channel myself soon. I've been building engines for a long time, I just wanted to share some experience about using engine building engines, particularly head gaskets. I've been down the route of steel gaskets, copper gaskets and back to composites. My choice of gasket is now composite, with ARP head studs. Reason being is that I look at head gaskets as a fuse: do you want the fuse to blow or the whole circuit? ARP head studs does an amazing job, but the best thing imo is to allow the head gaskets to be the weak point. Just an observation from my experiences.

    Hey bro! How is the project going? I came across this one not that long ago, as I plan to do an insane, scratch that, stupid build someday, and I hoped to have some "guidance" to the process haha. I wanna put one of those engines in my MR2-S, which is just plain stupid, I know. How has the project been progressing lately? Have you succeeded with a lot? Have you succeeded getting the crank Billet Forged? Have you decided on the 2 ECUs yet, or will you do more programming and go for a singular ECU? How has the wiring gone for you? Are you still working on the project, or has it been left to sit due to personal circumstances? I hope youre doing well regardless. Hope to hear from you one day! Take care.

    Are you able to fit the front sump oil pan over the cross member? You mention something about the engine just clearing but I couldn't find any actual imagery in your videos. I think the l28 comes with a mid engine sump, so does some of the 2jz.

    I know its a late comment - but what is the distance from the rear of the engine, the bellhousing face, to the front of the engine, the front of the pulleys? Im (like a few hundred others out here!) are thinking about repowers, but there is nowhere, anywhere on the net about the actual sizes of the engine. I've been watching your videos with great interest though. Bravo.

      Not really. I haven’t had the time to dedicate to the car like it needs…

  • @mndlessdrwer
    @mndlessdrwer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'd probably go with tan, camel, or white, but keep it largely to a single color, at least for the seats. I like for my seats to have relatively minimal color changes in the panels, though having a different color for the stitching is totally fine. As for the rest of the interior, I'd probably borrow heavily from the 300ZX and cover halfway up the car in carpet for a relatively cheap sound dampening effect.

    • @rustbucketbeauties2767
      @rustbucketbeauties2767 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the input! I do like Camel as well. If I ever switch things up in the future, I might do non original seats entirely.

    • @mndlessdrwer
      @mndlessdrwer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rustbucketbeauties2767 there's a lot of people who decide to skip straight over more heavily bolstered but still comfortable OEM seats and just use some race seats with harnesses. If you intend to keep this as a road car, a long distance cruiser like that engine is so suited for, then I think an OEM seat with some bolstering would be ideal. You'd want to see if you can find something where the seat controller is actually integrated into the seat instead of involving an external CANBUS controller like a lot of modern cars are moving to. It would also be ideal to find one that is either still in production or from a car with adequate aftermarket support that you can just buy premade OEM-style seat covers to replace the fabric or leather covers on the seats when they wear through. Porsche, BMW, and some of Honda's sportier cars are known for having seats with acceptable bolstering while still being comfortable, though Porsche and BMW are more likely to have integrated their electronic seat controls into a body/chassis control unit, so you'd need to be pretty selective.

  • @mndlessdrwer
    @mndlessdrwer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The 1GZ-FE may be one of the best ways to use up the unnecessarily long engine bay of the Datsun Z cars. Smooth as glass, quick revving, and a sound that shames some supercars. Only downside is that finding replacement parts is basically impossible and headers and intake runners can be a real pain to sort out because of how many pipes you're having to deal with.
