I turned to pottery as a way to try to clear my heart and my head. It immediately felt like home.
I have found so much peace, so many life lessons from creating from clay. West Cottage is named after my Gran’s cottage which I grew up viewing as sacred land. I like to think that the same warm, cozy, lighthearted and comforting feelings I got from West Cottage, is exactly how you feel while watching. West Cottage pottery focuses on one of a kind handmade stoneware. I believe that each piece holds a story and a lesson both to me the potter and to you the owner of the piece.
Things pottery has taught me:
-let things be what they need to be; don’t make them what you want them to be
-slowing down and moving intentionally yields beautiful, unique results
-attempting to over-control yourself or things outside of yourself often results in an imploding relationship

MAKING A MUG - The ENTIRE Pottery Process - ASMR calming pottery videos
We take Clay and go through the entire pottery process of throwing on the wheel, firing in a bisque kiln and then glazing and firing again in the glaze kiln. See the whole process with no distractions of talking or music. I hope you feel the same calm and satisfying feelings I get while throwing clay and I hope it gives you an appreciation for the art!

Hi, What type of clay is that? And how did you get speckles?
for the speckles in the glaze theres certain glazes that are reactive to the heat in the kiln! that means when they get baked the speckles form... not sure how it works but the place i go to do pottery has reactive glazes that have speckles in them similar to the one they used in the video! hopefully this is helpful

its a clay with some type of grog. grog makes it so that your dinnerware is more resistant to extreme temperature changes. so basically adds strength to the clay

can I use it unpainted?
If you wanted to drink from it, it would need to be coated in a food safe glaze before the final firing in the kiln. If you want to use it as a pen pot or something like that, then you can leave it dry without paint and without glaze.
Is firing necessary?
Yes, otherwise it will always be fragile and water will melt it. They use unfired ceramics in movies when they smash a plate over someone's head. That way it's soft enough that the actor won't get hurt.

This was such a neat video! I’ve only been watching you on TH-cam for maybe a year not sure but this was a new side and I loved it! I love getting hands on and this brought me joy looks so awesome!
I love this new channel, thank you so much for putting out relaxing, educational videos! Out of curiosity, why do you make the clay tall before flattening it down a few times? Totally get it if youre just doing it for enjoyment but was wondering if there is a method there :)
GREAT question! It's called coning up and coning down. It basically takes any tiny air bubbles out, homogenizes the clay, and centres it on the wheel so it doesn't go lopsided, fly off, etc.
I, personally, hate doing pottery but watching you do it is SO relaxing.(I hate the mess on my hands. I'm very, *very* tactile and I cannot stand the way it feels lol)

May i suggest.... when you upload an ASMR video, would you be able to upload 2 versions... one with the typical ASMR sound (like this one) and one with a soft jazz background? I know a lot of people enjoy these videos for the sound of the clay but I know for me I just LOVE your taste in jazz and I would really enjoy to listen to a little jazz while hypnotized by the clay throwing 😆 i cant be the only one! Lol

This was really relaxing! Out of curiosity, how do you remove them from the board without damaging them? Or do you wait until they're dry?
so glad you think so! You use the wire that I used to initially cut the clay and drag it underneath then lift it off the board and carefully bring to drying rack
