If you haven't listened to 'Between the buried and me' I would definitely recommend to check out White Walls for their most popular album Colors (from 2007). Has plenty of growling and some clean singing singing in there. (There should be a great live video on TH-cam) If you want to compare the same vocalist with their newest album Colors II (2021) then I would recommend "The future is behind us" & "Turbulent" (the tracks fade into each other) since those shows the most vocal range 😇

This is studio audio laid on a live video so the layers are him. They do have genuine live videos out there. Their video of their song Viking which showcases more of his lows is also a studio cut laid over a live video. It's more obvious there because it shows him meeting with fans as well. BTW I developed a playlist targeting modern vocal production. I would like you to watch at least some of it. Not react to it just watch it and consider it research. I think it will dispel some of the myths about pitch correction in modern production that you have expressed. Take note of the tools they use, what tools they don't use, why they don't use those tools, the reason they do what they do and what they do and don't do in the process. Also take note of just how high above and beyond the line of good/bad performance that they operate. You don't have to understand the entire process just those things will do. That way I'm not just asking you to take my word for these things. th-cam.com/play/PLhlYsqoR9XLFfWdcun3IM6RKn1FYya8Su.html

I will summon hate here, but I think you should not react to the onetake of demolisher. Alex high screams have improved significantly, but he absolutely butchered the breakdown in the recent take. Couldn't hit the deep vocals, missed the timing. Alex was even lower earlier before the breakdown in the demolisher onetake. But before keyboard warriors who never screamed in their life fire away: This can be pretty normal while learning blistering high screams. You have to shift so much in your throat and mouth between high and low and when you are not 100% used to it, you may not find the correct "configuration" to get deep when you currently most concentrate on high screams. And Alex IS still learning high screams, even when he is on an incredible level overall with his guterals. What the onetake from demolisher is good for is to see/hear how much Alex uses tunnel screams or other pockets/chambers he somehow creates. Could be he has a natural advantage somehow, but there is also so much technique and training. (Also he uses less voice effects in the demolisher one take which I like because it is more easy to judge what he does and what the effect processor does, but it also sounds more "normal" than the blown up studio version.) For the screams that sound like 2 voices: Alex can do these. The demolisher scream is like this. The screams later in the song are two seperate recordings. Even Alex cannot do to long parts with multiple screaming layers at once, because this uses horrible amounts of air and can fuck up your voice pretty bad since you scream with things in your throat or nose additionally that are not meant to be used to scream. It is also a masterpiece to see where they place such screams and how the songs are arranged for him to warm up before and have a short break after. I personally would recommend Viiking and the onetake of it. Both are incredible.

Alex is honestly kind of a shit lyricist when it comes to English. I cant speak to how well the Russian lyrics work but the fact that he makes those lyrics sound as good and natural as he does is a testament to what an amazing vocalist he is.

So glad you enjoyed Opeth. They're one of the most versatile heavy bands of the last 25 years. Their recent albums have delved into a progressive rock/folky/jazzy exploration of heavy music but returned to their black/death roots on their latest release. You'll always get beautiful melancholy from Opeth with redolent, gorgeous melodies, combined with brutal, dark progessions and complex compositions. A wonderful, wonderful band, I hope you try some more.

I HIGHLY recommend you go and listen to Whitechapel if you want to hear some of their older stuff This is Exile is a fantastic album and I recommend Possession off that album, but if you want something modern I recommend A Visceral Retch or When A Demon Defiles A Witch (As a whole The Valley is probably their best written album thematically)

You really don't need to apologize for rewinding a little bit during the analysis part because we already saw your reaction to the song so all you're doing when taking it back a step is just more analyzing and explication which is why a lot of us are watching this video in the first place. A least for me because I want to be able to scream like this someday. And I listen to this kind of music at work with customer's in the store
