Ocular Melanoma - EYE PATCH DAYS 2020
May 15-17, 2020 is Eye Patch Days to raise awareness for Ocular Melanoma and the need for dilated eye exams.
Each year in the United States approximately 2,500 people are diagnosed with this type of eye cancer. While there is treatment available, about 50% of patients will develop fatal metastases.
Currently, there is no known cure for metastatic ocular melanoma.
Often this disease is asymptomatic and can rapidly spread causing damage to the eye without a person knowing.
This is why routine optical exams are critical.
Early detection allows for targeted treatment and better results.
Your eye health is important.
Get your eyes dilated
every single year
. Call your eye doctor and make that appointment now!

Ocular Melanoma: This is my story
มุมมอง 1.5K4 ปีที่แล้ว
One year ago, January 30, 2019, I began a new chapter in my life when I was diagnosed with Ocular Melanoma. I call it a chapter because the moment itself doesn’t define me, but it is an important part of my life story. To celebrate my Canciversary, World Cancer Day and Rare Disease Day, I want to share my story. I hope this video brings awareness to eye cancer, particularly Ocular Melanoma. I a...

I watched this whole video hoping to find out what type(location) is her nevus ....she never mentioned it. I did go to her blog and after reading a bit she did say that it is a choroidal melanoma. This is important as depending on the location treatment and outcome differ. Ocular melanoma encompasses several different diagnosis depending on the location. Her suggestion to have a dilated eye exam is very important.

Thank you for posting this video. My son sees an ocular oncologist in a few days for his first evaluation and treatment scheduling. They explained the process, but your story made it so much more human and hopeful.

I was treated in 2015; doing well. It's helpful to discuss. Be well. You really explained the process so expertly. I'm sorry you had to go through that during the loss of your dad. God bless you and family. Oh, and don't worry; you look great

Thank you for sharing your story. I was diagnosed Oct.13th, 2020 and went through the same as you. I did get my biopsy and I am CL 2 unfortunately. Your story was uplifting. My lesions was 2.3 X 6.5 base. They got it small as well and I pray it doesn't go anywhere! There is a drug that my oncologist said may help with the spread called Sunitinib. Not sure if I will try it. I had the plaque removed Nov. 9th and I sill have double vision after 6 weeks. I know I need to be patient. Is your vision still distorted? Did you have retinal detachment? Is the double vision gone now? I am having my days, because it's so doom & gloom on the internet, so thank you for your video!! I am so glad that you are doing better and you will be celebrating a 2nd year here soon. Thank you!
