Using the CNC to shave the ejector pins
มุมมอง 2974 หลายเดือนก่อน
Up until now, I have done the ejector pin, shaving by hand. By manually setting the heat, and then manually turning the mill until the pins were level. I wanted to automate the process, but also didn’t wanna damage my molds. So I did it manually because I was more Comfortable.

    Very nice molds. If I may offer a piece of advice I would run single flute o cut bits. I have used the exact same 2 flute endmill from speetool and have found it sucks for any operation that has a plunging operation i.e. 2d contour or 2d pockets. The single flute will give you way less chatter and way cleaner cuts because it can evacuate chips much faster than a 2 or 3 flute endmill. I use the SpeTool O Flute UpCut 1/8" X 1/2" Carbide End Mill. On my carveking from millwright I run 40in/s with .022in DOC. My gantry is relatively stable but the plastic spindle clamp would seem to introduce a lower frequency and therefore I would recommend starting with a .07in DOC and 30in/s withe the single flute.

      I’m not sure how big I can go yet, but I don’t see a reason you can’t get bigger even. It’s all about starting with a dream. Then taking steps to make it reality. I started a year ago, not even knowing what to do. Now I am injecting thousands of parts a week. You have the dream, and now start acting on it.

    When I was making a ton of plastic injected parts on a home brew injection machine I quickly learned that the best case was only injecting a small fraction of the total barrel volume. Say 20-25%. So each injection is only injecting the bottom 20% of the barrel, which means it has had 4-5 injection cycles to fully melt. If you need to make many 100s Of parts, don’t heat the very top so the pellets there don’t melt and clog up the piston, and inject as little of the barrel as possible each cycle. If I was making 20cc parts I’d have a barrel volume of 120cc even if that meant my injector was 24” long! And the piston doesn’t even need to sweep the whole thing. 35% at most to allow for compaction. Nice work here, by the way!

    Pick the right anti-seize too. For high temperatures you want nickel based anti-seize and you want bayonet mount thermocouples in brass mounts (brass is easy to drill out if it breaks). Thermocouples have a six to twenty four month life span (due to chemical drift on type K thermocouples).

  • @ampdoc12vdc

  • @J87513

    Keep me posted on your new brass piston/plunger. I would assume it does need to be relatively snug but now air tight. The unmelted resin will work with the piston/plunger by forcing the lower (melted) resin out of the nozzle. Always keep the top portion of the barrel slightly colder than the bottom.

    • @iBuildStuffCNC
      @iBuildStuffCNC 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As long as your mould is not absolutely airtight. It’s usually not a problem. Unless you have a big mold. Then you need to have air vents to get the air out of the hole. You can actually see the vents blowing as the plastic rushes in. And they don’t have to be very big. Mine are only .035 mm x 7 mm.
