Thanks so much however..... if you have a large hand getting it down in there and trying to grip it is almost impossible...VW...come on man! why?
Surely, they could have made it easier! 😉
Do NOT screw the castle nut back on before hammering the old tie rod. It can get stuck on the threads and the spindle will spin freely so you can't get it back off. I followed your instructions and ended up having to use a cutoff wheel to get the old tie rod off.
There is widespread agreement to put the castle nut back on so as not to mushroom the threads. Sorry to hear you had so much problems.
You deserve a LIKE just for the perseverance alone! Man, that's the kind of trouble I get myself into. I get in so deep, but I can't retreat until the battle is over. (Unfortunately, I lose many of those battles ha-ha!) Good job to stick with it like you did. I can't open the driver side door on my 2000 Toyota Solara from the inside. I can open it from the outside thank god. Tomorrow the battle starts as I remove the door panel and see what's wrong. I think (and hope) it's a simple matter of the door lock clip breaking off and I just need to put a new one on. We'll see. Thanks for your video. I know my job can't be as hard as what you did.
Haha You are so right! We get to a point of no return and simply have to press on. How did it go, btw?
@@Pen_Pusher With your good help, it actually went very well. I thought a defective actuator was the problem, or the door lock clip was broken near the actuator. Once I removed the door panel, I first saw that the yellow clip on the door lock was intact. The actuator also seemed to be working. Then I noticed that the cable that goes from the door handle back to the actuator/lock had somehow slipped out of the handle assembly. The slot is so narrow that it would be a major fluke for the cable to slip out like that. But it did. Once I inserted the cable back into the handle, the door opened like a brand new one. Toyota wanted $500-$600 to diagnosis the problem and replace the actuator if they found that to be the problem. I hate to be a skeptic, but my fear is that they would have re-attached the cable and STILL charged me $600, ha-ha. How would I know? TH-cam videos like yours save guys like me a lot of money and even more time. I will say if I had to work on a door that wouldn't open (like yours) and I had to remove a seat...well, I'm not sure I have that much perseverance. Hopefully, that cable will never slip out of the handle assembly ever again. Thanks for your help!
@@markstevens4264 I am so glad it worked out. Well done!
When replacing cam or crank seals get a longer bolt with the same thread and a deep well socket that is the same size as the seal and use a 1/4 ratchet if you spend any time in the gym
Yes, that would work. Thanks for the suggestion. :)
I wish I would have searched for this before I took it to the shop because I thought it was the spindle bearings going bad. It reacted like everything I watched on youtube. this was so simple that I've always did my own mechanic work all of my life, but now that I'm 68 and my back is in so much pain when I do things, It makes me wonder if it is worth the pain to save $117.00 dollars for the tie rod end and labor that took about 1 hour. Pain is a very big motivator. Thanks.
Hi John, good to hear from you! Quality of life is the overriding factor. Sometimes it is a wise decision to have someone else do it, even if it comes with a price tag. :)
this video is misleading. You have to remove the Radiator.

How many quarters did you put in totally???
I think it takes a little bit more than 4. :)
You didn’t show putting it in. I can’t get my new one in for the life fe of me
It's been a while since I've done it. I don't remember the detail, but also remember struggling - giving up on filming - and then getting it right. I thought it was only me that struggled... 😉
I would add that to relieve pressure on the top nuts, jack up the control arm right under the coil. I just used the scissor jack This is also how to reinstall the strut and to raise it to it’s mounting point. Thanks for the video!
You're welcome! Thanks for that tip!
You are a star! Thank you so much for your video! It’s a monster job, but having to do it blind would have been excruciating! Thank you! Thank you!❤️🙏🏻
You are right. This is no joke. But, it is doable! 😉
After fighting 45 mins I see this video and couple a smack it worked lol ..great video..thank you
Haha. Yes, the steering wheel can be stuck sometimes!
I have fat hands and not confident I could do this, but you gave me good advice and therefore, I am going for it… thank u
Good luck! Find a friend with small hands if you struggle. 😊
I'm going to send this to the dealer that made me wait 5 hours for them to replace this bulb. They said they had to remove the bumper and then the light fixture to replace it. I called complete BS. Washingtonians aren't the brightest, no pun intended.
That's why dealers get a bad name!
Ok so I asked chatgpt what I can do. It advised to open and close the central locking with the switch fast continuously... can you believe it worked. I did it about 30 times and it eventually worked something loose and opened the lock. unbelievable, but well worth a try to anyone with a seized central locking mech.
And they said what good would AI do for us? So glad it worked out well!
I know nothing about vehicles and yet this tutorial was easy to follow and apply. Got that RDL changed with no trouble and saved myself $85 and a trip to the car dealership.🙌🏼🥳 THANK YOU!!!
You are so welcome!
Can you do this on a Honda CRV or know how to?
It should be similar. This is quite a big job. It might be better to have a shop look at it and use their equipment to get the door open. Once you have the door open you can remove the trim and get to the issue inside the door. Good luck!
What is your work light and where did you get it? So very bright!
It is a Braun from Harbor Freight. It is similar to this: www.harborfreight.com/800-lumen-led-rechargeable-magnetic-handheld-foldable-slim-bar-work-light-black-59103.html But it cost half the price. I love it and find it indispensable for working on cars. :)
So this might be a stupid question, But why can't you just put an impact wrench on it and zip it out?
That is not a stupid question. That is what they do in workshops all the time. This video is for normal folks who have some tools at home, but don't have access to such a high powered impact gun. :)
THANK YOU!!! 1. For not having music in the video 2. For communicating directly and effectively 3. Great camera angles

Have you tried pulling the rod or cable connected to the door handle? You have to pop off the black piece attached above the air vent in the corner then the panel will slide back and come off.
Hi Tonja, yes at 2:01 - 2:07 I tried pulling that rod, hoping with all my heart that it would be successful!
I’ve installed one of these before and instructions was to use the stitchings not the holes.
Yeah, tried that. The stitching just pulled out - not sturdy enough. The holes worked great for me. 🙂

Great info. I'd only like to add that while you're performing this maintenance, give any grease fittings a shot or two of a good quality grease. 😁
Yes, good suggestion!
That belt still looked new.. was it do for a change?
Yes, it had about 100k on it. :)
@Pen-Pusher Why not switch to a better reliable led bulb replacements, such as sylvania standard led with a 1 year warranty or sylvania zevo premium led with a lifetime warranty? This model may not say u have a bulb burned since it doesn’t have higher tech digital dash screen, even though it will tell u bulb is burned out but it’s not because it runs fine. A sylvania zevo would be a perfect upgrade for ur Jetta and so does the rest of the zevo led bulb replacement for ur vehicle.
Thanks for that. You don't work at Sylvania, do you?
@@Pen_Pusher no I don’t but I wish lol. I’m just an automotive led lighting enthusiast that I always recommend for those want brightness, is Lasfit or Auxito, or for reliability and longevity, sylvania led is great option BUT, the zevo led is the way to go for the lifetime warranty.

If I want to change all of the bulbs in my headlights from yellow bulbs to LED bulbs how many pairs do I need
That's WAY more work than it needs to be, I used to repair people's steering wheels when they had the exact same problem back in the 80s, I never drilled holes or took the wheel off, I used a needle and syringe filled usually with super glue, I would push the needle into the wheel until it hit metal and then squirt some glue in there, the whole job took me no more than 15 minutes and was ready for use an hour later.
That sounds like an easier way to do it!
Which way is your head positioned? Is the driver wheel to your left or right?
Yeah if you have baby hands
😂🤣😂🤣
I need to do this to get at the T-fittings on the coolant pipes to the engine that I just found out have a life of 150 thousand miles or less and mine are now leaking. There ain't much room to get your big hands in there to change the fittings , so this will help.
Bruce, I am with you. The more room you have to do things the more enjoyable they are.
can you explain how you put the eat down? I have the exact same rear seat design. there are no videos on TH-cam showing how to put it down, nor can I find any information online on how to do it properly. It would be very convenient If you gave an example. It's been a month, and at this point, I'm willing to Rip them out and damage my interior
You have to wedge the rear edge of the seat under the backrest and then forcefully push down on the front edge so it catches and stays in place. It is somewhat similar to closing the hood. The hood can be dropped so it catches and stays closed. Hope this helps. 🙂
Mine is doing the same thing and it’s so annoying. I have to pry up to pop it free every time I use the jack. I’ll have to try this.
Try it. You won't be sorry!
Excellent vid! I'll be doing this next week. The procedure may be a bit different for my 2005 Sienna, but most of it should overlap. You gave enough info and visuals for me to figure out the idiosyncrasies with the 05' vs the 00'. 👍💯
Good luck with that! Stay patient and it will work out well. 🙂
Did you have to take the cam pulleys off to get the metal rear cover off ? The metal rear cover blocks my water pump from coming off and I noticed that you removed it in the video and didn’t show how you took it off It’s visible in the video at 11:17 behind the idler pully And it’s gone when you go to take the pump off at 12:32
Yes, you have to remove it. Here is the video for that: th-cam.com/video/WwUTWIZdETo/w-d-xo.html I tried to make two videos in order to reduce the length. I guess I didn't do a good job.

I’m shopping for another car to replace my 2000 Buick Park Avenue that I love because it is so quiet but the driver’s side door won’t open from inside or outside. My mechanic has fixed it, I don’t know how, it quit opening, he fixed it again, it quit opening. One of his customers was selling his 2014 Lexus es 350. I drove it, LOVED it but mileage was too high. So I’m shopping for a used Lexus. I noticed you said, “ Honda's have horrible door and Ignition locks. They use poor quality wafers in the locks that wear out and the key stops working.”. I considered looking at Acura’s. My question, do you think an Acura is as well made as a Lexus? Since Honda has the lock and door problems? Thank you for your advice!
Hi Kay, I think someone else made that comment. I am not aware of an inherent problem with their doors and locks. The car I worked on was a Toyota. Personally, I won't hesitate to buy a Toyota or a Honda. They are good quality cars. 🙂
Great video!!!!! Easy to follow, Thanks
Thanks for the appreciation!
You’d think they’d do better in terms of bundling cables and having larger connector junctions so there aren’t so many things to disconnect. This alone could take 30 minutes to an hour. Then again, I suppose it will end up saving hours of work later trying to contort your arms and hands.
Yes, it takes a while doing this. And, yes, it is a PITA.
@@Pen_Pusher I ended up putting it into service position this weekend and while it's a PITA, it definitely improved quality of life working on the front end of the engine when upgrading the oil filter housing on my MK6R to the AKS tuning billet 06a conversion. Thanks for the video! :)
