    This game is so good, but you what game is better? The original! You should find a way to try it if you enjoy this one. It is tougher and tighter, but much more satisfying to play. Marco Polo II is fun, but feels looser, more generous, and almost sandboxy comparatively. And, oh yeah, Newton is brilliant fun!

    • @boardgamecourt
      @boardgamecourt 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Newton is great (Fotios says!) Is it true that the original Marco Polo is more punishing/unforgiving?

    @tcp1623 for 38 minutter siden (redigeret) I too think that the rule book looks really nice - however, I don´t think the majority shares our appreciation for medieval art - they might even find it boring looking. As a publisher I too would go with the more color full front cover. Aside from that - what a fantastic dragon meeple. Maybe the best I have ever seen - only rivaled by the one in Settlement. (Vast also has a dragon). English rules can be found on BGG.

    Thanks for the great review. You are missing out not playing La Granja! The fun factor is high. I used to own the original, it's amazing, but last year upgraded to the Deluxe Master Set and it is sublime. Double the multi-use cards! Plus 12 modules to mix and match. A lot of great gaming in that box. Not to be missed if you like El Burro as much as you seem to.

    Hi Fotios & Elena, I am happy to report that I own exactly NONE of these games. 😊 In fact, I believe I have never even played any of them. I love that you do content like this. Too many content creators are overtly positive about everything. There are several channels that I used to watch regularly because of their honest opinions that I rarely watch because they do so many previews and KS or other sponsored content that make them not worth the time. I know they need to make income, but this stuff has taken over their channels and has bled over into their other content. You both are still genuine and honest. Plus, entertaining as always. Keep up the great work!

    Azul with spanish tiles?! unsubscribe! No, but seriously, don't ever make that mistake again. Azul is based on portuguese tiles, that are mostly "azul" = "blue". That's also the idea for the design of Vital Lacerda's Lisboa, for example.

      We were re-reading the BGG description of the game (while having memories of our own trip to Malaga, Southern Spain): "Introduced by the Moors, azulejos (originally white and blue ceramic tiles) were fully embraced by the Portuguese when their king Manuel I, on a visit to the Alhambra palace in Southern Spain, was mesmerized by the stunning beauty of the Moorish decorative tiles. The king, awestruck by the interior beauty of the Alhambra, immediately ordered that his own palace in Portugal be decorated with similar wall tiles."

Somehow, I held off, and now I see that the game is getting very mixed reviews. Your impressions after playing and your opinion will certainly be very valuable for those still deciding whether to buy the game. For now, I’m considering Distilled, as the pre-order just launched here. Warm regards! By the way, I noticed the beautiful airplane on the shelf behind you... Flying has always been one of my unfulfilled dreams-some time ago, I actually started flying gliders, but I couldn’t finish the course due to lack of time.

      Thank you for your comment and thoughts. Yeap, unfortunately Pampero did not hit the mark for us... We really hope you enjoy Distilled, it is a fun game. Flying? That is a cool hobby. Fotios one took a private lesson on a two-seater but Elena is too scared of small planes! :-)

    if this game's box is bigger than vital lacerda games OMG! i dont event want to try vital lacerda games not only that it is complex for the sake of being complex and a huge (no pun) problem when it comes to storage but bcuz the reason is just the big box alone. i think the only game that i enjoyed with a big box is Millenium Blades or maybe Kemet 1st edition. if the box is this big i want it to be strictly medium weight complexity and 2 - 3 hours long. and these designers who purposely chop their game to sell it as expansion should be in jail 😠😂its frustrating, just give me the whole game in one box! thanks for the video review btw :)

    I bought a couple of Lacerda games, and they are pretty good, but I don't usually want to cover the whole table with the board, or spend $150. I've had just as much fun with games at half the size and price (Newton, most recently).

      You should try Bot Factory, House of Fado or Mercado de Lisboa. Lighter versions of his heavy games.

    I know that Pampero is designed by Julián Pombo, but this game makes me think of CO2 and Vital Lacerda. I love several of Vital Lacerda’s games, but I don’t like their price. I am really happy of his collaboration with João Quintela Martins to offer smaller and streamlined version of his games for a smaller price, but with the same great themes and great mechanics 😊

    • @boardgamecourt
      @boardgamecourt 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      We would also love to see his main (heavy) games being available in different editions and price points - possibly too much to ask! We definitely love some of Vital's designs but dislike others :-)

    @johnvandenbos 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Thank you for your honest review of this game. I've bought it including the two expansion. I agree about the box size (and the price) could be a lot smaller. Maybe Julian Pombo and the publisher should consider a light version (like Mercado de Lisboa compared to Lisboa or Bot factory compared to Kanban EV and House of Fado compared to The Gallerist). The art by Ian O'Toole is (as always) fantastic. It's a big selling point for this game.

    Hello friends! Unfortunately, the game is no longer available here... Both the first and second parts. It’s a pity because I had it on my radar before, and it was probably the lack of a solo mode that stopped me from buying it. Now I kind of regret it, as I generally like dice-based games... But thanks to you, we’re playing a lot of The White Castle now :)

    • @boardgamecourt
      @boardgamecourt 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, indeed, White Castle and Marco Polo have many common elements, however Marco Polo II does feel like an older design indeed without this being a bad thing. It gives you a sense of nostalgia!

      @@boardgamecourt haha, my main feedback during the playtesting phase was that people found it too difficult. So i kept making it easier. I had Transatlantic which I enjoyed but even more so when you use Mac Gertz own variant that's on bgg which is the version he wanted to publish but was overuled by the publisher. They streamline and smooth out the whole game. Definitely worth looking at if you've still got the game. I've never played Concordia but on my wishlist. I sold Transatlantic and picked up Crossing Oceans his follow up game. Thanks for an interesting video with great arguments. You should try Hamburgum by the same designer great rondelle game.

    • @boardgamecourt
      @boardgamecourt 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      We haven't tried Crossing Oceans, but we did indeed play Transatlantic with the revised streamlined rules. The "problem" for us is that we played Concordia first, which is a by far more streamlined design so we were possibly expecting more of Transatlantic!

      We understand that this one is quite different than La Ganja, in the same way that the original Great Western Trail is different to its New Zealand version: El Burro is a more complex and more sandoxy game. Thank you for your engagement!
