35mm Street Photography Shot by Shot Breakdown

Back for another composition breakdown in Madrid. The mornings here are so special so I wanted to focus this one specifically on the light in the morning. And..if you can ignore how many times I say “kind of” and “like”, there might be some value here. Shot on the Fuji X-T5 with the Fujinon XF 23mm (35mm equivalent) F/2R WR Lens. 72 Hours in Valencia
มุมมอง 2273 หลายเดือนก่อน
A little montage from 3 days in Valencia. And yes, I know this video isn’t exactly “little” given it comes in at nearly 17 minutes which is way too long for a TH-cam video with no voiceover but hell, Valencia was so beautiful I just couldn’t figure out what to cut without feeling like I was doing the city a disservice, so here we are, at a length greater than a short film (which this is definit...

What’s the over/under on how many times I say “leading lines” in this one? …Back for another Composition Breakdown this time in the beautiful city of Valencia. Wow-ee what a photogenic city. These photos don’t nearly do it justice but hopefully you find these breakdowns valuable! Shot on the Fuji X-T5 with the Fujinon XF 23mm (35mm equivalent) F/2R WR Lens. INSTAGRAM!: per_simmons...

Photographing Madrid’s Pride Parade | Fuji X-T5
มุมมอง 2154 หลายเดือนก่อน
I was in Madrid for their Pride this summer and what a darn joy it was to photograph-though it wasn’t without a few false starts. I also never quite adjusted to the Spanish lifestyle, where nothing good starts until 10pm, but I did get pretty good at siestas. Inspiring. I'd say your spanish is pretty good. Thanks for sharing.
nice shots man! 👍🏻 keep on
So gorgeous 🙏
So damn good! I don't think I'd want to leave such a beautiful city either.
Thanks!
Much appreciated!
👍💪🤝
Thanks! Can I use my digital camera to read the exposure then copy the shutter and aperture on my film camera?
Yes you could do that! Won't be as accurate but will definitely work in a pinch
Is there any way to select apertures that are in-between the traditional stops? My camera has a maximum aperture of F3.8, which as far as I can tell can't be selected as an aperture... Only 2.8 and 4
Simple, nicely presented and jam packed with useful insight. Top tute fella! Got the Sekonik L-308S so no aperture adjustments for me. Rest is the same though. Thanks 🙏
Thank ya love to hear it
OMG. Finally I think I’ve got my head around this thing. Thanks
My pleasure
Great explanation and beautiful photographs - I still don’t get how to use it for the camera though. Does it give settings for you to use on the camera eg ISO f-stop and ss and if you put those settings in the camera you get perfect exposure?
brilliant, really helpful. Thanks!
Background music does not help.
I was in Toledo for 3 days 6 weeks ago. Wish I had seen your video before that. Great for inspiration. And I might not have messed up my pathetic tries doing street photography in that great place. You gave me a whole different perspective, many thanks!
Haha thank you!
I have a ProRes 422 HQ scan of a roll of KODAK VISION3 50D Color Negative Film 7203. It was shot with a CLA'd Nikon R10 Super Zoom (aka. "Nikon R10") camera. My problem is that it has lots of blue hues/overtones (which I think is the correct term). What I want to achieve is a color corrected ProRes 422 HQ output file that I can use in other editing software that I'm more familiar with. I tried following your tutorial but I could not get rid of the excessive blue hues. Do you have a tutorial specifically for this that is beginner friendly or do you know of one such video?
Excellent, to the point no fluff.
It's a toss up between the photos and music as to which is better here. Both are particularly good. Overall the music edges it for me, it just works. Well done.
Superb work, the hotel sign photo worked brilliantly. Thanks for posting this video, really enjoyed it.
thank you!
I am having the most moody, down day until I came across your post. Your photography was the art therapy I needed. I appreciate the deep shadows and harsh light; you captured Toledo that was inviting to the viewer. As an artist, simply ignore the few negative comments you received. This is YOUR vision & experience. Thank you for sharing and I look forward to more of your work
Ahh thanks so much for sharing those kind words, means a ton
Great video! Beautiful photos and very informative 😊
Great photos!
Great stills and video! Can't wait to visit this place one day!
The music doesn't help the presentation. I thought this was silent? Some nice ones there 📷👍
Haha good point
can you give your preset? at 03:11 how do you add the black behind the green door but keep the red signal as bright?
This is Fuji's Portra 400 recipe. I exposed for the highlights when taking the photo then in post just dropped the shadows a little bit
For this kind of average flat photos in an outstanding location as Toledo, you can use your phone, not need a Leica (I'm trying not no be rude, but I don't know how to express it lighter, sorry).
@TungstenOvergaard Because if a photo is good it will be better if it is shot with a Leica? You have a misconception on photography, I don't have other words, I'm trying not to be rude. You can comment that you don't find the photos interesting but what's the point on gear? You would like a Leica and you don't have it?
@@sdegio70 hi kid. Gear doesn’t matter, but I said that because these cool kids think that for using a Leica they are better than you using Fuji or OM system. But then photos are crap, same as their TH-cam content. Meaningless pictures. Not even one with any composition, technical, artistic or documentary relevance. So crap, more visible when shooting in several thousand euros/dollars camera.
@@TungstenOvergaard in the videoI didn't hear a word about being better because he is using a Leica. But I stop here, I'm very impressed with your opening "Hi kid", is well known who is the kid with this sentences, bye. Btw I use Olympus/Panasonic m43, apsc and FF.
@@TungstenOvergaard That "hi kid" said enough about you. I don't know how, but Leica gatekeepers like you always manage to be the most pedantic people. You are not Kubrick, man, grow up and let the people enjoy their hobbies as they want, and using the gear they can buy.
@@TungstenOvergaard Bruh, I’m not out here tryna be an auteur. I had a few hours to photograph Toledo and I wanted to show off the city in this video. I do this cause I like making TH-cam videos not to create some “artistic, technical” masterpiece. You’ve come to the wrong channel if you’re looking for that.
Is that Fahrenheit or Celsius?
You did a great job. I love the vintage style you wore in the video 🤌📸
🙏
Lovely shots!
I liked the video but why naming it 35 mm when you are shooting digital and not even the sensor is 35 mm?
Thanks! The title refers to focal length (Fujinon 23mm, a 35mm equivalent on full frame) and not the sensor. But yeah I realize that's confusing because film sensor is 35mm too...surprised we haven't come up with a better way to distinguish the two
THIS IS SO BEATUFIL AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
This was pretty interesting as a local to see Madrid through the eyes of a foreign photographer. Keep it up
¡Me encanta tu ciudad!
that shot @ 10:47 was so dope
Are u faking film look?...
Some sort of Portra filter?
Yeah..Fuji X's weekly Kodak Portra v2 with some slight adjustments (white balance and dynamic range)
nice job bro just plz show me this good filtre 🤩🤩
thank ya..it's the Kodak Portra v2 Fuji JPEG recipe from Fuji X Weekly with some of my own adjustments (white balance and dynamic range)
@@per_simmons tnxs bro
This was very helpful, especially seeing how you meter front lighting and backlit scenes. Thanks for sharing this knowledge.
My pleasure
Wow love the photos. Love this video and the way you explain how you take each photo 😊
Thank you!
Bona merda company <3
Love these! who's your inspiration?
New York City of course :)
Why did you bend the edge?
To get it on the ratchet
That morning lightttt 🥰
Lo mejor!
The vibes captured here are unreallllll
Thank you!
I trully loved the pictures, The edition, the video, the music… you trully captured the essence of Valencia in an atemporal way. Congrats 🫶🏻🔥
Thank you David! What a special city
Hope you have had a good paella in La Pepica.
Got too distracted by the photos..next time though
If you are still in Madrid, go to El Rastro, Sunday mornings. Street market full of photo opportunities. And to El Retiro park.
Yes! I went three times :) will be highlighted in future videos. Such an experience there
Great job it's always good to watch street photography videos love it. I also do street photography but I only photograph in black and white 😊
Lovely shots& great video :)
Fark, the music was stupid, gave up.
Yeah whoops..went a little heavy on that film photography lofi music
Nice video and nice warm editing style you have!
thank you!
Inspiring video! How much editing are you doing post production? You had a ton of shots leveraging the light and shadows but were able to get a great exposure balance in the final images. I'm very much a hobby photographer, I tend to just go with the JPEG out of camera on my Fuji with a few minor tweaks, and I feel like I would struggle to get results like you had without shooting RAW + a lot more editing.
Thanks Sebastien! These are actually straight out of camera. I did very little, if any adjustments in Lightroom. But it is a Fuji JPEG recipe if you can still call it a SOOC. Try messing around with different recipes, my favorites are: Kodak Portra v2 - fujixweekly.com/2022/12/16/kodak-portra-400-v2-fujifilm-x-t5-x-trans-v-film-simulation-recipe/ Bright Kodak: fujixweekly.com/2022/06/10/fujifilm-x-trans-iv-film-simulation-recipe-bright-kodak/
Nicely done, bruv.
