I think "Araby Officer" looks like a muazzin (or some fantasy analogue) and thus could work as a musician.
I really like the look of the immortals and I think however you go with them it would be awesome to see some more. In addition the army looks great! I’ve been watching and enjoying for a while now and love the updates.
Absolutely amazing work.Have you thought about making some flying carpets for cavalry
Thanks, and I was thinking about having a flying carpet or two, but couldn't find any units that would fit into my araby themed army atm with TOW.
Have you considered using the Otherworld Miniatures hobgoblins to convert your Immortals? Although the company's just closed, their ranges have all been bought by others so they'll be re-released at some point. Also, you might be able to source them more easily than the Citadel ones through ebay and someonline sellers may still have them in stock. The guy who set up the business was directly inspired to do so by the old Citadel DnD range, so they're very similar in style. Also they were sculpted by Kev Adams, so the old school credentials are stong
Actually looking at them, they might be more heavily armoured than you'd like but there are quite a few with pole arms
Yeah, I loved and always supported otherworld miniatures for many years. But like you said, the scale of them is different, and they would stand out a lot more when compared to the citadel ad&d ones.
Honestly, watching you build this army is currently my favourite thing on the internet
Thanks, glad people are enjoying my hobbying 🙂
Amasing paint job. cool minies
Rad
Wow! Very nice
Thanks man! 🙂
Very mundane question: how are you sealing these minis? Also: Have you found and corrosion/rot on any of the models you have purchased?
I ask because I just painted a classic Fimir and Skullface Thug this week and I am second guessing my normal sealing methods.
That's awesome man! Both the fimir and skullface thug are great minis from old citadel.
I seal all my minis with a brush on varnish. And I have been working with both pewter and lead for over 12 years of hobbying and never have any corrosion/rot occur 🙂
Ibstart araby army, you gulty hahaha, I have a lot oo miniatures the lead adventure miniatures, please check, have a beautyfull models to mucho villagers but only need a few Green stuff, you dont have a y problem with this hahahaha
This in my opinion answers the old dilemma of whether or not to convert a classic metal miniature. If you are going to do it, this is a perfect example of exactly how it should be done... every miniature looks like it was casted that way and has a natural flow to it. I can see how it's keeping you motivated as the whole army so far looks awesome. I am hoping to maybe see some Al Muktar's desert dogs make an appearance as a cavalry unit.
Way way too kind words my friend. Really appreciate it. And that's what I usually try to do with all my oldhammer minis. With how rare and nostalgic they are, I want to give them as much effort as I can. And haha yes sir! The desert cav will hopefully be done soon 😉
Beautiful
Why not make a blue stuff mould for the immortals and do your own recasts?
I have used blue stuff for shields but not really trusting it for full scale minis.
Gorgeous
Man, if you finish this army and don' shows a battle with it, I'm gonna riot
Haha I'll definitely record this army, 🤣
Why not proxy the army as an empire army? You can use ogres as mercenaries
I was going to do empire, but imo the units don't have enough diversity/theme to fit araby if that makes any sense? And I'm trying to play armies that aren't seen aniugh at my events, and empire imo has enough players where I play 🙂
Man, these are rad. I had a weird impulse to build an Araby army, and your videos popped up on a search. Glad they did! Awesome looking stuff!
That's awesome man! Hope I'm giving good ideas for your araby army! It's a shame araby hasn't gotten a lot of love from the wider warhammer fantasy community.
These all look great, I hope you have a fun battle with them soon!
Thanks! I'm beyond motivated to get a small force to play soon 🫣
Amazing collection , i’m using Oriental, shaman and berserk ogres like ONI in my growing nippon army
@enricocorradini2185 that's awesome! After my araby I'll be jumping back into my small nippon force as well 🙂
GW Ogres. Getting steadily worse since 1985... Arguably you're missing one. The Champion from Goodwin's earlier Golgfag set (a sort of first draft in a way for him) was I think added to C23 at some point. He would be the weakest model in it though in my opinion even though he's one of only two that I possess. The first Ogre I bought back in about 1987 was Hrothyogg. Annoyingly I then came across the old Golgfag ones in my local model shop and bought them and felt I had enough Ogres so didn't get any more of the C23 ones which I think we can safely say was a big mistake.
Haha I have to agree the modern orges really aren't my vibe tbh. And I know which champion you're talking about! Never pulled the trigger since I was worried about the size of him. And I'm sure you'll be able to pick up a few more of these classics orges for your own collection 🙂
@@Yong-Duke He's not especially smaller than the other C23 at least not to the same extent that the troopers from Golgfag's are. With the change in the models while I much prefer the old models for the great majority of factions I am prepared to accept that for the most part it's just a preference. Ogres I think are the one where it's closest to an objective reality that the old models are just better! Perhaps it's accentuated by them not having even been a faction as such when all the best models were made. I do like most of the ones that came out in the few years after C23 - some of the Bob Olley ones, the Marauder ones (though I think the captain is a big cut above most of the others), the ones that were recently rereleased as 'Badlands Ogres' especially the standard bearer (which I do have). The Bloodbowl Ogre himself, based on the C23 Gladiator, is also a classic. C23 is the gold standard though. I don't expect to be buying too many at Ebay prices in the near future unfortunately. Since then an honourable mention to the Maneater Ninja and that's about it...
@ClydeMillerWynant I agree 100 percent, I know some modern ranges are absolutely gorgeous but I think I'm too stuck in the past with the classics 😅😆. And I would agree that orges for sure got a downgrade when compared to their older sculpt counterparts. The occasional Maneater - like the ninja one, and goldfag (modern one) are some gems in their current design. Bob Olley and the marauder orges are absolutely great as well, I just don't have much memory nor nostalgia for them. But that's not to take away from how good their sculpts are as well.
@@Yong-Duke There's a really mournful looking Bob Olley one with a two-handed mace that would be the Ogre I would choose to represent myself. He's still on the margins of my top ten though which would be almost all C23.
The least impressive of them still shame the more modern GW plastics in everything but size.
Haha 100 percent agree, I just love all the character and simplicity of these classics 😁
cool to see you giving these classics a new life
Thanks, all my warhammer old world armies have been and will be these classic minis. Feels right for the return of this legendary game/world 🙂
Have you seen the undead version of Hrothyogg from Ral Partha Europe? They simply call it "Undead Ogre", but it's clearly the same character; same pose, same equipment.
Yes i have this awesome mminiatur e sculpted by Justin coutange ! Unfortunately hé. Passed away a few years ago
I believe I have seen him in a few vampire counts army but have yet to find a place for him in my collection 🙂
Considering that mercenaries (such as farfanes) and foreign slave-soldiers (such as ghulams) were very common in real-world medieval Arab armies, you can add almost any unit into your Araby army, especially ogres, who often are mercenaries in Warhammer setting, as far as I know.
For sure, was just worried about having too many mercenaries, it would look more like a dog of war army (which I'm also working on). But you're right having a merc unit or two would fit right in with the araby force 😁
Best Ogres Ever
For sure, wish they made a few more tbh 😅
Mydas and Sheikh Yadosh and the first Dogs of War book are from 5th edition, so mid 90s. While it's a shame about the hacked up Mydas and Mordheim models, I do like buying damaged lots for metal models I'm going to convert so I don't get 2nd hand guilt about converting something who's price keeps on rising each year.
For sure 100 percent agree. Surprisingly for me, it seems to be hard to find the damaged models to pick up. 😕 some of the miniatures I cut up, also cuts a small piece of my hobby soul 😅😆
Weird coincidence, I have the Oriental Ogre as well and its foot is also missing. Wonder if it was just a weak joint in the casting.
Probably 🤔 . Now looking at the mini again the connection point is quite small. Most likely will have to pin mine to make sure he doesn't break again.
Sick! I used these guys for my 8th ed Ogre army. Love this range!
Thanks 🙂 , and would have lpved to see the orges of yours! Definitely need to catch up and get that game in 😉🙂
"Used", does that mean you don't have them now?
@@jprp999 Still got em! Used as in once used them as... :)
@@angerworm good stuff.
@@jprp999 One thing I've learned over the years is not to let go of the oldhammer models!
The bounty hunter has an executioner sword. Those were pointless because they were only needed to cut necks. I think that is Also why he has heads on the other hand
Ah that makes a ton more sense 😅. I did notice and commented on the heads he had, but was wondering how the hell the sword would chip off heads 😆
8:46 The mutant had so many spiky bits it destroyed the moulds so it was withdrawn from sale. It is the rarest of the C23 set.
Oh really?!? I wouldn't have expected that. I guess I'll definitely have to put more effort when I get around to painting the mutant.
No need to convert the captain for Araby, he's a mercenary so can look different... could add some locally procured equipment....
Very true, will sit on it for a few more days 🙂. Won't chop any of these orges until I'm 100 percent sure I have a concrete vision.
@Yong-Duke A thought... add a crescent 🌙 either horizontal or vertical to the front of the crest...?
@Lee-o7u4t yeah maybe some freehand will help him fit a bit more into the araby army 😁
They're really superb! I have a few of them myself. In this era Skrag the Slaughterer was a Malal follower so the mini of him from this collection is going to be one of the leaders for a Malal warband I'm working on :D
Oh dude that's sick! I always liked the lore of Malal. I can't remember the name of the chaos warrior mounted and discounted champion of Malal, but always adored that chaos champ as well. Good luck with the Malal warband, I'm sure it's gonna be kickass.
Saved my some typing.
@@Yong-Duke Thank you! I believe he's called Kaleb Daark. He's such a cool mini too, I've been keeping an eye out to try and get him at a decent price to lead my warband :D
@Tim1000064 yeah that name sounds about right! And I'm sure you'll get the mini to complete the badass warband of Malal followers 😁
@@Yong-Duke Thank you!
Realm of Chaos 80s recently posted again...
Oh really!?!?! Need to catch up and see what he's been up to 👀
Didn’t Cathay or nippon have one horned ogres in the lore?
Hm tbh I'm not entirely sure. Need to brush up a bit more of the bestiary lore of both Cathay and nippon 🤔
@ i looked it up it says they were part of Cathay
@@jackruby6696 I think we can probably safely say that came long after these boys were made though please correct me if I'm wrong. 'Men of the Orient' was really there as a vehicle for people to use the models that were knocking around due to 70s/80s samurai and martial arts crazes so was essentially Nippon and I don't recall them having Ogres in 2nd or 3rd Ed though there was no more reason for them not to employ them than for anyone else of course.
You cool dude you love oldhammer you good person with big heart
Love those tables. This is how WFB/TOW tables should look like. Perfectly flat (good for moving units on trays), empty battlefield on the centre where units can clash and scarce (usually) impassable terrain (so players can't put their units in the middle of it). Very cool. Kudos to whoever set them.
@kempo79 Thanks both Joe and I went over the tablea and set them up to how we usually play or view warhammer games as well.
Absolutely of one of GW's best. Please keep this out of the hands of the recaster scum.
Absoluty stunning work.
I can’t believe I’ve never seen this model before. What an incredibly gorgeous dragon; I can’t wait to see how you paint it up!
Thanks! It's gonna be a fun project for sure 😁. And I'm glad more people are able to find out about this amazing piece of citadels history.
oh man i cant wait to see this painted up in the future
I think Bibby understood animal anatomy better than any of the other sculptors, so could create convincing fantasy anatomy like no one else
Having watched more of the video now, you make that exact point! Sorry for being a bit redundant! 😂
@mathuxley7264 haha no worries man, I always enjoy the conversions in the comment section. And praising nick bibby isn't anything to apologize about 🙂.
@Yong-Duke Agreed, I just wish he'd stayed with us instead of going off to be a proper grown up sculptor! No idea of the details, but I get the impression he was treated a bit poorly by the miniatures industry. Alternative Armies in the UK are re-releasing a lot of his early Asgard Miniatures sculpts, which are definitely worth looking at. Some aren't his best work, but most are fantastic
That's a holy grail right there. I love that Bibby now produces insanely detailed full scale bronzes and yet they're probably just as expensive as the great spined dragon.
@mohussain4792 thanks. And for sure this miniature definately is a holy Grail for collectors. And yeah I heard he started doing bronze sculptures. He truly is talented in all forms of art.
Man I am seeing this dragon going for 1000 bucks
@@mohamedmaiza3866 really?!?! Maybe the market shifted? 😅🤔
@@Yong-Duke maybe it's that specific seller. Did you get the paper wing parts with the dragon?
@mohamedmaiza3866 I believe there were no paper wings, you had to create your own. There were instructions that gave good tips on how to apply/create wings for the membrane.
@@Yong-Dukethe original box had a paper sheet with templates for the wing membranes, but they’re easy to replicate from the model.
I plan on getting one of these and Kegox soon.
Japanese drums in the background?
Send it to a recaster 🍻😆
I know a recaster who would love to get their hands on that artifact.
That is a very cool dragon. I have never seen one in person but have seen them in White Dwarf magazines. I googled Nick Bibby and that sent me down a rabbit warren of miniatures by him and also Jes Goodwin in a website called alternative armies. Dragon Lizard mounts look pretty cool and also they have a resin dragon he sculpted in 1982…the metal one weighed 0.5 kg and they only made 200 which sold out
Yep alternative armies has some amazing sculpts! And glad you looked nick bibby up, he really is such an amazing sculptor and deserves all the love for his amazing artistry.
The Alternative Armies Goodwin and Bibby sculpts were originally released by Asgard Miniatures, Bryan Ansell’s miniature company before he founded Citadel. They are also available in the USA through Viking Forge.
Need to hunt one down...
@@angerworm would love to see how you would paint yours!
@@Yong-Duke I only have polaroids from back then.
Pin the wings! I used tissue paper coloured with inks to form the curve of the wings - . Dried plant roots make realistic veins
Will most definitely pin the hell out of the dragon 😁. Don't want to risk him falling apart on the tabletop 😅🤣
