I recently moved and about an hour ago I was looking through a box of mint comic books and discovered I had two variants of 1 as well as the X Men Alpha 1 foil. I'm pretty stoked, as I barely recall buying them, and had no idea of their popularity at the time. Jim Lee was one of the best!

When this came out, I was reading it in my mom's car while we waited for my grandmother to get out of an appointment, and then my mom read it, and I never once caught any jive for being obsessed with X-Men. My mom read this by happenstance, it was the magazine in the car, no wifi phones, but this is a comic book you can hand someone and they will forever understand why you love comics, what they can be, their potential for dimension. This issue is the very best. (Although it aways bothered me that polymerase is spelled wrong, I'll pretend it was Charles' exhaustion, Hank would've nailed it.)

I remember buying this mini series in a 4 pack set in my London LCS. Howard Mackie is a terrible writer, but, Lee Weeks is an exceptional penciler, with the Klaus Janson inks and Buccelato colours make this book tolerable.

i just finished this series today and it was soooo good. so weird that once again your video popped up in my recs just minutes later. you did a good job with highlights but there's still so much left to be said! i loved the smart mouth remarks in this particular series. there was a a good bit of quirky humor. you can't help but love Bert. and the entire "you knew it was me the whole time?!" between Wolverine and his gang was pretty comical all by itself. Best line was "when somebody with claws and a temper wants to believe he's fooling people, well...no one wants to the one to say "hey Wolvie! what's with the stupid eyepatch?"

So his father abuses him and he abuses other people - sounds like it could make for some great storytelling. Plucking up random people so he can be a firestorm and dropping them off werewhever and whenever, and they don't know what just happened.
