The most important line to take away from this segment is that she realized the unfairness in the music industry. less talented acts with no as great of vocal abilities were easily able to transition to pop and attract a wide array of audiences in multiple genres where she was stuck in the category of R&B even though she had much more to offer.

Man....that song “My Friend” ALWAYS makes me cry. I have NEVER been able to listen to it and not burst into tears. And when it gets to the part, “ I been looking around and you were here all the time” Oh I’m really boo hooing then. The chords and just the way Patti recorded that song...there is nobody, not even Fantasia that can move me like that with that song! She did an amazing job singing it during Patti’s tribute though.

Either way, I love ❤️ me some Patti. I went to high school in North Philly and I noticed how much Philly ppl LOVE Patti.

They fail to mention these facts on these Award Shows.(The Bluebelles & LaBelle) laid the foundation for girl groups of the 60's
