While I am waiting on my cylinder issue that seems to have suddenly become damaged after being told it arrived ok by smedspeed - I am getting on with other things while resolving this issue to carry on. Far from happy and will most likely not use again and deal direct with Heiden Tuning for the rest of the build and support.

    Absolutely beautiful work here. As soon as I saw the battery box, I said "wow". That is really a demonstration of quality work. Also, the camera work at the beginning was certainly quite stellar. Thanks for putting in the time to add that bit in because it did pay off. Just brilliant all around.

      Yea the bottom end is far more straightforward than the top as you just need to follow assembly instructions. The top end however can be done many ways and different specs that make it much more complex.

    Love it mate , but the only thing i would change is where your starter button is too close to the horn button and it only takes a second for you to hit the wrong one and starter is going while engine is running , just saying but quality of build is second to none mate 😁😁🤘🤘

    • @danryan4997
      @danryan4997 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks mate, yea I did also have this concern. When your on the bike, and feeling the button, the starter one is angled up and horn angled down, so it makes that situation slightly better when pressing, but it's a valid point especially when you normally only use the horn in a hurry.

    Vision+Drive. A steadfast grip on what should be achieved, you were not f#£@g about with the quality end product for sure! Watched them all and only commenting now, should have had more views/subscribers from the XS devotees. I put a stock xs in a 90 gsxr 750 slingshot frame and one hard mount vs rubber mounts was straight forward but head steady required too much thought, too much control then not enough, gas struts or " bumpers" heat expansion and over bracing etc etc = Give up. But in your case- Excellent 👍 and enjoy your build (it really was yours and you claim the trophy) Now, rest and repeat! Best wishes

    if you care about this engine, use different air filters. Watch a video by a TH-camr who’s channel is called project farm. He tests effectiveness of different types of air filters, sifting flour into a box and sucking air through the filters, the filters that had the highest airflow rate, we’re K and N filters, they also Allowed 10 times more particulates to flow through the filter

    Again nice work. I seem to remember reading that these engines tend to develop cracks in the bottom end above a certain HP. I don't recall what that number is. You may want to research this. You've put in too much work to have it wrecked by having " Too much" fun.

    • @danryan4997
      @danryan4997 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Ed, I did lots of research on these motors before starting the build and they are very bullet proof with many sidecar racers taking these to 880cc and higher BHP. My 744 will vibrate much less also than a stock engine as its rephased.

    • @danryan4997
      @danryan4997 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Beautiful work. So nice to be able to build engines at one's own pace. During the mid-seventies, when I was a 20-year-old 2nd-year pro and had just moved up to 750s from the 250s, I asked a well-known builder to put an engine together for me. The engine ran, but was down on power, so I started working on it myself. Upon inspecting the cases I noticed that he'd made two small holes in the oil gallery than runs through the front of the crankcase so as to allow oil to, I supposed, cool the pistons or to direct cool oil to the rods. Never had a chance to ask him about that, though. However, when Suzuki released the GSXR750 much was made about the 'piston cooling jets' that directed cooling oil to the undersides of the pistons, a practice that many others have now copied. Anyway, one more thing to ponder....

    Few people are aware that the cylinder head design on the XS650 comes from the Toyota 2000 GT sports car, the engine of which was a highly modified Toyota straight six developed by Yamaha. (The car was featured in the James Bond flick shot in Japan, Dr. No?) The steel skull which forms the roof of the combustion chamber is also pretty trick, as it makes for stable valve seats and retains more heat (more combustion energy) than an alu combustion chamber would (not sure how much difference that makes though....). The engine is absolutely bullet-proof. I raced a Champion-framed XS on dirt tracks in the U.S. during the mid-seventies and never had an engine failure, nor did I ever see or hear of one letting go. That engine you built is a beauty! Re. the starter motor: one could fit the exhaust valve depressor used on the XS-1 to make it easier to turn over.
