I think the only remedy to get out of this is just doing something that is way beyond than your own self capability. I'm barely 5'5 to 5'6 and I'm doing way more than my capability. Though I have a good face, and I'm way more sensitive towards my grooming routine. But still, my worth doesn't rely on common perception. This is not what I've born for, just like getting irritated by random opinion. The real fact is everything matters, and if you think you're average, just take charge of your own life and keep working untill you no longer needs to rely on this kind of things. My job actually made me to live a lone life and I've no problem with it for now because it is all about country's security. When I lost some 15 to 20% hair in my crown area, because of alopecia people started treating me like a rapist and all. I know how does it feel.
